“Ideal location, really good value! ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

We have just come back from a 4 night stay here with friends, so between us we had 3 rooms. Two of our group arrived early, but they're room was available and they were happy to accommodate them getting their early.

The rest of us had a later flight, but no problem with us checking in at 11pm as they have a 24 hour reception.

Lovely lobby area and beautiful spiral staircase up to our room on the first floor. Our floor did smell a bit smoky, I suspect this is because there were both smoking and non smoking rooms on our floor. Our room was really big with lovely solid wood furniture. The bed was quite firm, which we liked and found very comfortable.

You might want to bring your own hairdryer, as I found the one in the bathroom was very weak and took a long time to dry my hair, although my friend in the room next door said it was great for her thin hair!

Breakfast is served until 10, which is great as we didn't have to worry about getting up early! Great selection of fresh and tinned fruit, cereals, yogurt, cheese, cooked meats sausage, eggs, breads and rolls.

It was extremely hot during our visit, but the air conditioning was perfect! Don't know how we would have slept without it.

They looked after our luggage until we left as we had a late flight and this was no problem.

You can easily walk to Wenceslas Square from here within 10 minutes, you are just round the corner from IP Pavlova metro station and the 22 tram which can take you all the way over to the castle. So a really ideal location for exploring, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby but just far enough away from the late night noise.

We booked Hotel Tyl based on the reviews and photos on the website. It was a huge disappointment.
1. We booked a standard room. When we checked in and found out the room was extremely small, not at all like the photos on the website. We requested to change to another room. So we were given another standard room but much larger, with a "transfer fee" of $20.
2. In the larger room, there were 2 twin beds with mattress only and no box spring. Hence the beds were extremely soft and hard to get up.
3. The room temperature was at 18 C no matter what temperature we set at the thermostat. Eventually we had to turn off the air conditioning all together to get a more tolerable temperature.
4. We have the housekeeping do our laundry. The colored ones were back to us the next day but not the light colored ones. We finally got all the light colored clothes back on the third day, but all white socks and underwear are in gray color. The hotel did take off the laundry charge but now we have every white garment in gray color!
5. For two days we did not have shampoo nor body lotion supplies. I have to ask housekeeping to give us these. Oh, they don't provide face tissue at all.

The front desk staff was friendly and eager to assist. But we were very disappointed with this "4 star" hotel.

I haven't actually stayed at the hotel, so the only good thing I can say about it is that it looks nice on the outside. I did have some experience with its staff at the reception, though. Briefly, when I arrived, it turned out that the dates in my reservation, which I made shortly before going to Prahue, were wrong (which was certainly my fault). The hotel receptionist offered to fix this matter by calling his friend at another, lower-rate hotel. I ended up staying at that other hotel, and paid for that separately. At the same time, the receptionist assured me that my card would not be charged for the reservation. That turned out to be false. My card was charged, and the hotel's customer service told me that the was nothing they can do. Technically they are correct, because reservations made only a short time before checking in cannot be canceled with a refund. The reception staff's behavior, however, can only be viewed either as fraud or, at the very best, gross incompetence. For that reason, I can only give this hotel 1 star. Terrible experience.

I stayed here with a fairly big group of university friends, and this hotel was perfect for us! The rooms were very comfortable with all the necessary facilities, and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful; props to them for letting us use the lounge area for our group socials every night! My only complaint is that breakfast was of a fairly low standard, with food that was either flavourless or just generally unpleasant. Overall though, I thought this to be an excellent hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed my time in Prague!

Hotel Tyl provides spacious, if slightly outdated, rooms in a central location for a reasonable price. This is not a luxury hotel, but still makes for a pleasant stay. The breakfast buffet is modest but does the job. Good wi-fi, but note that the hotel provides an unprotected connection.

Room Tip: Rooms next to the lift can be quite noisy.
