Museum of Gastronomy
Jakubska 12

The Museum of Gastronomy is Prague is a pioneering effort to bring to life the history of preparing food from the earliest times of man to the microwave age.

Visitors to the museum will see examples of the earliest eating implements and explore the culture of dining.

The museum relates the stories of the founders of gastronomy including the first cookbooks published in Europe. Special attention has been given to the Czech gastronomy where an entire gallery has been created.

I was able to sample historical beverages and food at the Museum of Gastronomy in Prague. Visitors will see a unique exhibition rich in authentic images and 3D reconstructions guiding them through cooking history from its origins. The Museum of Gastronomy has created a century old restaurant and bar that will permit the visitor to uncover the secrets of the production of beer and spirits . Visitors will learn the fate of the best chefs and their recipes. Together with their children the visitor will enjoy the old puppet kitchenette and shops.

Most impressive was the great care taken to authentically re-create the atmosphere of different historical periods of time that involved the culinary arts. The owners have made great efforts to seek out and purchase genuine period pieces to make their museum a valuable and unique experience.

The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as very well informed on the subject matter.

This is a must stop for anyone who visits Prague

“Hidden Gem, Very Friendly, Must See”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

I visited here on my week long solo trip to Prague in April. It is extremely interesting and documents the whole history of food and its preparation and cooking process from the prehistoric to modern times. I am not a food lover as such but I found it extremely interesting and gained a lot of knowledge from it. There are replica exhibits with easy to read, detailed information about each one. You then go upstairs where you can see things related to Czech Republic food history and famous chefs ect. Upstairs is also the AMAZING modern kitchen and there was a very friendly woman who demonstrated all the gadgets and things, she was very friendly, knowledgable and eager to point out the more interesting bits which was nice. She also offered a free sample of palm cake which was delicious and also of some really sweet alcoholic drink called Medovina which was so nice I ended up buying a bottle from the shop downstairs for a decent price. There has been a lot of work put into this museum to make it interesting and fun, and it would be nice if it could attract some more tourists. I highly recommend visiting here.

“Unique experience you shouldn't miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Having the opportunity to visit Gastronomy Museum in Prague multiple times, I have to say that every and single time it's been a real pleasure - no matter if it was for evening wine tasting in its premises, tour throught the museum to learn about history of gastronomy or the brilliant visit when the owner Ladislav, amazing man putting his heart & passion into this project, offered me a guided tour and made me a cappuccino in the end.

I always enjoy the special athmosphere in the museum. Focusing on the tour and exhibits itself, it's been entertaining and learning experience at the same time, as the tour is reasonably long and focuses on relevant level of detail.

I just could recommend a visit of this unique place when you'll be in Prague, as I did to number of friends and contacts, both local and from abroad. Im sure you'll have a great time! :-)

“Absolutely lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

A great little museum, full of interesting tit-bits of information and fun exhibits. Run by a family with a history in cooking and Gastronomy who are very helpful, one women went so far as to phone their chef to get the lowdown on their amazing meringue recipe. Good for families and foodies alike, get the word out this museum needs to be seen!
