“50czk (€2) for a ticket to Aida!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

I happened to walk by here just before Aida was about to start. I bought a cheap ticket in the very top section, with the idea I could leave if I couldn't see or was bored.....no way! The show was brilliant, the view was fine (opera glasses are available). I recommend swinging by for a cultural evening!

“Amazing Cultural Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

There are a lot of concerts going on in the numerous concert halls in the Old Town; however, most of them are 'tourist traps'. I recommend investing in the visit of the State Opera, it is a support for a local culture plus great experience. Tickets are not expensive, the opera house is breath taking, plus you get to observe locals. We watched Rusalka (Little Mermaid) which is a 'signature' play. With English subtitles it was easy to follow the story and the music/singing are top quality.

“Someone stole my seat!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

A lack of vigilant staff meant that my seat at the opera (Carmen) was taken for the first act by a very rude Czech couple who were adamant that they were in the correct seats. It spoiled what should have been a great night of opera. Staff were able to seat me in a box although it was directly above the stage with poor acoustics. Given the fact that it was a birthday treat for friends who had never witnessed opera, it was doubly disappointing. My well laid plans made 4 months ago to celebrate their 50th birthday were marred although it is a great venue and when I did eventually get my seats back thoroughly enjoyed the remainder.

“3 shows in 3 nights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

Opera, ballet and Shakespare on 3 consecutive nights, sat in the balcony, on the floor and in a loge and every production (Rusalka, Anna Karenina and Troilus and Cressida) was excellent. No bad seats, coat check works very efficiently, and snacks for sale at intermission (Rusalka was 3 hours . . . ) There a no bad seats, but sitting in a box was pretty special, and we saw all 3 shows for what you'd pay for one a lot of places

“Carmen was outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

We saw Carmen performed there. The inside is well maintained and quite beautiful. There is also a great cafe/restaurant right across the street. If you are going to see the arts while in town, this is definitely a great place to see it!
