“Beautiful setting to watch plays and operas in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Stunning theatre. What is on obviously changes but they frequently have English language performances. It is definitely worth paying for the better seats as you do get a much better view of the stage and it is far more enjoyable. We arrived late for the first act and had to sit right at the top until the interval and it was much less easy to engage with the performance than in the second act.

“Local culture”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Its more of a locals thing to go, but if you want to dive into the local culture and history go to the national theater. It has a very interesting history too, so spend some time on getting to know it.

“Golden roof splendid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

It is a truly impressive building. Unfortunately we did not had the chance to visit a show, but the building itself is great.

What still amazes me is the amount of gold you see in the buildings and how well these buildings are preserved.

“Yury Vamos' version of Romeo and Juliet brought tears to our eyes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

We were 65 high-school students and 5 teachers who were lucky enough to experience a performance of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet with new choreography by Yuri Vamos. Narodni Divadlo is one of the most spectacular theaters in Europe. Full of Old World charm, and with a staff that is most accomodating. The ballet company is perhaps not the most spectacular in Europe, but in this production they streched to new hights! Set in the 1930- in the period that the music was written it took us into a world of the mafioso. Since Shakespeare's play is about family conflicts, this modern version worked really great. The twist at the end had an enormeous emotional impact. Even 17-year old male students, six feet tall admitted: "I cried my eyes out at the end"!

“Lovely experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

I'm an opera fan and saw The Bartered Bride was playing while we were in Prague. As it's the quintessential Czech opera and I'd never seen it, I went with my family and our travel companions. It was such a lovely, low key experience compared with going to the Met in the U.S. The theater is a jewel---beautiful ornamentation----the singing and orchestra were top notch, and the tickets were so much more affordable than opera in the U.S. People dressed during summer in nicer casual clothing (sundresses, men in collared shirts and khakis) so don't feel you need to totally glam it up if you go.
