“Worth the effort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

This park and historical site is very peaceful and interesting. The church is stunning, very famous Czechs are buried here (Smetana, Dvorak, etc) and the oldest church in Bohemia, the little Rotunda church, is delightful to see. There are a couple of inexpensive and good cafes/restaurants here inside the walls, too.

“Beautiful and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Many people, myself included, comment that Prague is heaving with tourists ... but not here, though it deserves just as much attention as those much-thronged attractions in the City centre. It is easily accessed as it is just 2 metro stops from the centre. Get off at the Vysehrad station, you then have a walk of about half a mile - there is the occasional signpost.

Vysehrad is enclosed in castle walls and is set very high above the Vltava - the views are absolutely spectacular. Looking down from the walls, you can make out the roofs of some of the cubist houses at the foot of the cliff. You can actually walk down to ground level - easier than walking up. The parkland within the castle walls is a pleasure to walk around and there are 2 or 3 places where you can stop for a drink or some food. Perched on the cliff face is a 14th century ruin of a watchtower, known as Libuse's bath - Libuse was the daughter of a mythical Czech king.

The 2 main landmarks are Basilica of St Peter and St Paul and the National Cemetery. If you walk around the cemetery you will see quite a few famous Czech names on the grave stones.
If you can get here when the weather is good, it provides an exceptionally relaxing experience, so don't tell anyone about it.

“Good viewpoint and nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

This place is 10 minutes from center by subway - do not miss it.
You can walk on old walls - there is a great view to city and river. Cathedral is very nice, but when I was there entrance was prohibited.

“Vyšehrad, Prague”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Really a beautiful place, breathing with peace and history, despite the numberless visitors. Architecture lovers, a must see place to go to. I'm sharing with you my sketch of the Capital Dome of the St. Peter and Paul. An amazing piece of architecture.
