When you arrive at the airport don't bother about getting a cab into the city. Hear they try to rip people off anyway.
Get the number 19 bus and it takes you straight into one of the stops of the subway. Then you can just zoom around on it. will only cost about £2.
We got a 3 day pass on all trains, buses and trams for £5 which was great, meant no hassle. Only remember to 'validate' your ticket when you first get on any transport
We got a bus from the airport and then a metro to Prague centre - cheaper than a taxi, hostel was just a short walk away, very close to the Charles Bridge
Hotel is right beside Charles Bridge, can walk everywhere. Hostel was the only reasonable one that I could find that was in the city centre
Room & Cost
E-mailed the staff to book and they were really friendly
Price for a double room ensuite was €60 a day per room, plus you got 10% discount if you pay cash. Breakfast wasn't included but for 75CZK a day you could get a continental breakfast.
Rooms were really clean and had lovely wooden beds. They didn't have any double room when we arrived and we got 2 twin beds, we didn't mind. Bathroom was quite big with 2 sinks.
As the hostel is on the main route to Charles Bridge ask for a room towards the back so that you miss all the noise of the people mingling about during the day and night.
Reception open 24 hours and they have a wee bar that you can take drinks up to your room. Drinks are cheap as well
Staff weren't overly friendly when I was there but they did make sure we had everything we needed. We carried our valuables with us and didn't have any trouble at the hostel with thefts.
WARNING -Be really careful when you are in public transport especially when it is busy.
Pickpockets seem to work in groups and jump on and off the trams and metro system.
They are able to open zips and swipe things without you even realising.
Don't carry a lot of money etc with you and if you have 2 credit cards keep one in the hotel so you'll never be stuck
Also watch your camera, especially if it is digital, keep the zips of the case facing into your body as they prey on them.
We caught a guy trying to steal our digital camera on the tram, they were in a gang of 3 and they ran of the tram laughing
Also watch walking around at night as we had someone follow us acting suspiciously
