“Old Hotel - NO AIRCONDITIONER”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Pros:

The hotel is nicely located, next to a train station that takes you directly downtown.
The rooms are big, since it is an old hotel.
Very cheap.

Cons:
No air conditioner. If you are planning to go on European summer, do not take this hotel. Otherwise you are going to have a hard time to sleep. The worst part is that this fact is not mentioned anywhere in the hotel website.

The first thing you notice about this hotel is the smell of cigarettes straight in the lobby - smoking is allowed there. The rooms are quite simple, they lack of minibars and shampoos but we found the bathtub a big plus. First night we spent there, the water in our shower was brown. Since the repair man wasn't going to be able to come before morning, we had to fix the problem by our own.

The breakfast was quite ok, it had break, eggs, meat and all the usual stuff. We got bored of it though, so we didn't take advantage of it every day. The staff was very nice though, all od them don't speak English that well but there's ways to get around it.

Don't buy drinks from the lobby bar, but walk 200 m to the nearest shop and buy them there. The lobby bar was quite expensive compared to the prices elsewhere. There's a Chinese restaurant and a good bar nearby also, in the same building where the small shop is. If you fancy a bigger shop, there's a market less than a kilometer away (which is also nearby McDonald's and Vietnamese restaurant)

The public transport in very good, a tram/bus goes pass the hotel's stop every 5/10 minutes. You can buy tickets from the lobby.

I do not know why some comments were negative. The service from reception could not be bettered.

The buffet. breakfast was fine, lots of choice, hams, cheeses, cereals, breads and so on. We ate a couple of nights in the hotel and found the food reasonably priced and good quality.

The rooms were clean and large.

Location , 20 minutes into the town centre on the number 9 tram which runs about very 5 minutes.

Only downside was the bar, it is not part of the hotel and while service is ok while you are buying drinks I sat down one morning after breakfast and was told by the barmaid that the area was only for bar guests.

Value for money excellent.

I arrived April 21st for a 5 day photography trip. The receptionist was friendly and efficient, she kept calm despite a large group arriving at the same time. I purchased a 24hour transport ticket from her and a map was provided, within 1 hour I was at Wenceslas Square. Finding a restaurant was a problem as it was after 9pm, early closing on Sundays, so I had to eat at McDonnalds, a bit of a downer, but this was only day 1. From then on after finding the old town there was plenty to do. A surprise was the very warm weather 25_26 degrees C, the warm clothes I took were totally unsuitable. Trees in full blossom were lovely as I passed Petrin Hill on the tram. The trams are very regular, every 10 mins into town, I would get off if I saw something interesting, explore then back on another tram, a very impressive transport system.
Photographically the Jewish Cemetery was very interesting, as was the Lesser quarter, best meal was at a garden restaurant next to the John Lennon wall.
Hotel was further out than I would have liked, about 40 mins to town center. Tram stop 400m from hotel , however it gives you time to people watch on your journey.
Overall good value for money.

arrived 3-5-13 for a 4 night stay approx 11am in a party of 9, reception staff were very friendly and helpul but was told we couldnt check in till 2pm but we knew that anyway so decided to have a drink at the bar but that was closed till 4pm so we asked where we could get a coffee and the answer was at the bar. ok where is the nearest bar we asked, answer was 25 minute tram ride away, great start . ate in the restaurant that night and food was very good and reasonably priced. but breakfast the next morning was differant. appart from boiled eggs and toast it was all spicy sausage, smoked cheese, salad and tasteless cereal. a 2 slot toaster was all they had to serve all the guests. the staff in the retaurant were totally opposite to the reception staff, as were the bar staff, miserable and very ignorant.the bar staff seemed to open and close the bar when it suited them which was not very often so most of the time the only drink we could get was a cold one from a vending machine in reception. rooms were ok and clean. on our depature we were told to check out at 11am even though we were not being picked up till 5.30pm and ofcourse the bar was closed untill 5.30pm. glad to leave? yes, would i stay there again even if i was offered free accomodation? no. overall we enjoyed our visit to prague but would i go again? no.my advice to anyone considering staying at this hotel is dont, its miles from anwhere, its very basic, the staff are mostly unhelpful and ignorant and the breakfast is rubbish.
