Hotel Duo is a basic 4-star hotel that has a lot to offer. The hotel is very large, consisting of two towers, A & B, and caters to a lot of tour groups. During our stay there was 11 to 15 tour busses in the parking lot in front of the hotel every night, coming from Spain, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Rumania, Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. So there was a very large turnover of people every day, and the lobby area was always a very high traffic area.
Despite all the traffic, the front desk staff was very friendly, and most of them seem to be able to talk in 5 or 6 languages to their customers - totally amazing.
By basic I mean that the hotel is not a Hilton or Marriott, but still offers a lot of great services. Parking is not free, but not expensive either, and is right outside the front door. The lobby area and bar has free WiFi, but it does not reach into the restaurant, probably to keep people from camping out there. The lobby area is very large, and on any night it's easy to see 50 or 60 people sitting around using their notebooks and phones on the WiFi. The restaurant is quite good. The food is tasty, varied, and not expensive, the wine choice also nice. The house wines are also very good, and service in the restaurant was very good. The bus groups to not eat in the restaurant, but in a different area. The breakfast area for regular guests is also separate from that for the bus groups. The breakfast buffet was amazing, giving people from a lot of different backgrounds a wonderful choice.
Our tower seemed to be mostly for regular guests (tower B), and I would suspect the Tower A was for bus groups. You can see the differences by observing the groups and families in the lobby - smile!
Our bathroom was large enough, all in white, functional, but not high class fixtures. The side of the tub was rather high, and since the shower was in the tub, there was a rather large step getting in and out. Missing for me was countertop space for my toiletries. There was only one small glass shelf above the sink, offering space for a couple of water glasses, and a shaver, but there is no countertops at all so the rest had to remain in the case, which I placed on the floor (it was clean). The room sported a small refrigerator, no mini-bar, no water was offered, and two easy chairs, small table, and a very nice fresh fruit bowl upon our arrival, good flat screen TV with a lot of channels, safe. The room was quite sound proof, and there was even an internal door which could be closed to separate the hall/bath from the bedroom. In the room was no WiFi, but free wired internet. Our 7th floor room had a good view. The AC control appeared to work, but with the 25-36C temperatures in Prag during our visit, it was only able to keep the temperature in the room down to 24C.
Important too is this hotel is very close to the Airport. Important too is that you can see the subway station from the hotel, and it's a 10 minute ride to the center of Prag, where there is NO parking spaces, so this subway is very important. By the 3 or 4 day pass. It's a bargain, and it's also good for the bus, and the tram inside Prag with no time limitations and unlimited transfers.
If not traveling with a bus tour, ask for a room in the tower away from the bus groups. It is quiet...
