“Excellent hotel in a difficult location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2006

This a very large hotel designed for international business meetings. It is adjacent to an international business center. The room was lovely and large. It had everything including separate rooms for the toilet and the shower with a sink in both. The problem for the hotel is that it is located next to a freeway which cuts it off from the center of the city. While one can walk to the center, it is not through the best part of town. Nor are there alternative restaurants to the hotel offerings in the vicinity. If one is in Prague on business, this is the place to be, but for a tourist, there are probably better choices.

This hotel was one of those big, impersonal, characterless properties on the outskirts of town. The service was good at check in until I had to change rooms (I was wrongly put in a smoking room, and they really do smell of years of smoke), and I then found the staff to be unhelpful at dealing with problems. You had to use your room key card to use the lifts, even if you were going from one floor to another, and the views from the rooms made you realise what a drab area the hotel was in. The whole place seemed to be a large stopping off point for package tourists and conference people, and you had no sense you were in Prague at all. The biggest drawback was the location. The hotel was not too far from the old town (about a 20 minute walk), but you had to walk through a shabby, busy area to get there, and it didn't feel safe to do so at night. Even as a business traveller, I wouldn't stay here again, but would stay somewhere nearer to the old town, or across the river, with more character and more of a sense of being in such a lovely city.

  • Liked — The breakfast buffet
  • Disliked — The location
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay on the upper floors while it's going through it's modernisation.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Prague for 6 nights and it was a 5 star experience. I made arrangements with the hotel to be picked up at the airport and the driver was waiting for us. When we arrived at the hotel at about 10 AM our room was waiting for us as requested. Since we are Hilton Honors Gold members we were upgraded to a King bed room on the Executive Level. The room was extremely comfortable and conformed to the desscription on the Hilton web site. Later that evening the Hotel management sent us a complementary bottlle of wine and a bowl of fruit. The Executive level rooms include an extensive complementary breakfast, daily newspaper, free access to a comfortable computer lounge with high speed internet access, complementary snacks and drinks from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM within a large comfortable lounge setting, and a dedicated concierge who provided us with all the travel assistance we required. The Hotel is within a few minutes walk of Prague's extensive modern subway system. We found the Prague subway system to be very convenient, and a safe and inexpensive way to travel around the city. The city of Prague is spectacular and the Czech people are friendly and helpful. We found Prague to be a very popular tourist city with numerous restaurants, shops, historical sites, and lots of entertainment venues. Our stay at the magnificient Prague Hilton made the trip even more special. We highly recommend the Prague Hilton and look forward to returning.

  • Liked — Modern 5 star hotel, executive level lounge and services, convenient to metro
  • Disliked — There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this hotel.
  • Tips/Secrets — Recommend booking an execuive lounge room. If you are a Hilton Honors Silver or higher member book the cheapest room and request an upgrade.

Great to read another nice reviews!
Just a quick update on what is happening at the Hilton Prague. Currently we have all 788 rooms in the operations and available. Therefore, month of August will be the ‘quiet one’! There is no renovation noise coming from the room. But it does not mean that we are not working on improving our facilities. So if you here noise – we are probably hanging some new arts on the walls . During September we will start last phase on the 5th and 6th floor and that means that at the beginning of the year we will have 4 renovated floors completed. And this is going to be the Christmas present for our guests and our team members.

We stayed at the Hilton Prague for 3 nights in late June. It was pretty much what we expected from a Hilton - nice rooms, clean and tidy. We ate at one of the hotel's restaurants (the CzechHouse i think it was called) for dinner one night - the food was fantastic and service was very attentive (perhaps a little too attentive at times...). Staff were friendly and helpful. One downside is that its quite a walk from the main sites - probably 15 or 20 mins from the old town square. It was just ok for us (couple in our 30s) but almost too far out.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Hilton Prague during the Good Friday/Easter bank holiday weekend.

Our trip to Prague was very important to us as we were also celebrating our recent engagement. As I did not want to ruin the holiday, I did my research on the Tripadvisor site.

After reading about the reviews on Tripadvisor about the renovation going on, I decided to e-mail Pavlina requesting a room away from the renovation and also to ask about transportation to the hotel from the airport. (1) Pavlina replied the e-mail almost immediately. I followed up on another question, and once again (2), she replied almost immediately again.

We decided not to take the hotel limousine/taxi (which is actually a nice, comfortable Skoda) as it costs around Kr850 (if I am not mistaken) and decided to a van (for only Kr500) from the airport….BIG mistake….as it was only 2 of us, they piled up the van until it was full and then only departed the airport…took ages to reach…I suggest use the hotel Skodas!!! (we used the hotel Skoda to the airport…it was fast and the driver even put our bags on the trolley)(3)

When we reached the hotel, we were greeted by an ever so friendly receptionist. I cannot remember her name, but I think she was from Argentina, as her name tag had an Argentinean flag on it. The check in was efficient and as requested, we got a room away from the renovation and facing the river (4). Yes, it was about 1 minute from the lift (and feels like years when you are coming back late at night and tired), but tough luck!!...that was how the hotel was designed, so it is the architect who is at fault, and not the staff who allocate rooms!!!

We got in our room, to our surprise, there was a heart shaped flower arrangement on the bed….a nice touch we thought…..(5)

The only negative thing we found about the room was the bathroom. Don’t get me wrong, it was not bad or anything like that!!..It was just the bathroom was old and the WC and the shower/sink were in separate rooms. However, the bathroom was very clean and full of fluffy towels.(6).

We went out for lunch and to explore the town. We decided to take the taxi (for around Kr250, I think). All you need is to walk up to the bell boy and ask for a cab. It is immediate. Service was with a smile.(7)

A bad point about Prague is one would think the restaurants in the old town square were out to rip you off!!...what we paid for lunch was the ultimate rip off!! Having learnt our lessons, we did not have any more meals at the old town square.

When we returned to our room in the evening, we had the shock of our lives!! Inside our room was a bottle of champagne, some ‘hor de vours’ and a card from the management congratulating us!!! This personal touch I have never experienced anywhere!!!!(8).

We went for dinner and used the taxi again. The cab driver gave us his mobile number had came to collect us after dinner all within 5 minutes of the phone call…very efficient (9), and please bear in mind, the charges all go to your room bill, so there is no chance of the cab driver making a fast buck on hotel guests.

Breakfast was the usual Hilton breakfast, which was filing. A nice touch was on Easter Sunday, there was an Easter Bunny distributing Easter eggs at breakfast….quite a nice touch, even for an adult to experience (10).

Our stay at the hotel just remained magical for the remainder of our holiday….from the housekeeping staff who could not speak English, but attempted to communicate with the guest through sign language(11), to the bell boy who was always approachable whenever you wanted directions (ie you decide to take the 20 minute walk)(12).

Even in the best of hotels, there are always negative areas of improvement. Mine are:

1)Bathroom is a bit old – I suppose this will be sorted out with the renovation
2)The surrounding neighborhood is somewhat quiet, only if you decide to take the tube late at night…..So just take a cab!!
3)Aircond was a bit warm, but this was sorted out when I complained
4)It costs a bomb to make a local phone call….it was cheaper to use my mobile to call local numbers

All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who goes to Prague, even though some may say it is out of town and in the middle of Timbuktu!!...it is so far one of the best hotels I have stayed at in Europe (as you can see, it was 12 plus points above).

Lastly, I would also like to thank Pavlina for e-mailing me after the holiday to find out how my holiday was, etc (and this is plus point no. 13)!!

I stayed in Hilton last weekekend. Hotel over all is not a bad expirience, but if you consider it as 5* Hilton which you pay 180 € per room, than you realize that is not woth 180€ per night and certenly not worth 5*.
We booked a room over Hilton, reserved type of room with late checkout and payed extra for it. When we arrived, we were given average room with terrible bathroom (from 70s). Breakfast was good but nothing special. We also used some other services in hotel, massage was average - expensive, dinner food was adquate. Hotel is located 20 min walk from the center, if you perfeer to stay in center of town, dont book this hotel cos walking or having issues with taxi drivers all the time will drive you crazy.
On last day i checked when is the checkout time (i was expecting at least 3 PM), lady at reception said is 12 because they are expecting a large groop so they need free rooms. They didnt care if i payed extra for late checkout.

All in all, this was a realy bad expirience of Hilton hotel, i stayed in many hiltons WW, never had any bad expirience, but this one is a big minus to hilton. Definitely not comming back.

I should of consider the fact that this hotel is no.43 on top Prague hotel on Tripadvisor, that tells everything - i think it should be even lover.

I hope that this client at least enjoyed the City of Prague and I am sorry we did not make this guest satisfied. If I am not mistaken, I have written to this guest or had a similar problem on my desk.
There is a special rate, which includes late check out upon availability and this was not specified clearly on the website.
The issue has been brought to our reservations manager to check it.
