“Superior service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

I can't add much to the good reviews already presented except to say I agree. Wonderful location with restaurants and shops nearby and, of course, the Prague Castle just a few steps away. But the signature quality was the friendly staff. We had a situation of needing some medication for relief from jet lag. The evening manager told what we should get and where to find it. Explained what tram to get, which stop to get off, and which direction to walk to find a pharmacy - at 10:00 on a Saturday night! We made the trip some time ago but, after reading some of the reviews, I wanted to let others know how helpful the staff at the Golden Star was on our visit. We had a two-room suite with a view down Nerudova. I marked down the location only because it is a rather steep downhill walk to get to the river and the old town.

My partner and I stayed in the Golden Star Hotel for three nights from 25th January and it was such a good experience! We flew with Easy Jet which all went without a hitch and then were transferred comfortably in a taxi driven by a very friendly local who gave us hints and tips of where to go whilst in Prague. Our room was too good to be true, we were on the third floor at the front which meant we had a fantastic view of Prague from out of two windows due to the hotel being at the top of a slope! It was a double room with a separate living area with a TV and sofa and two bathrooms. The rooms had lovely furniture in-keeping with the decor and the spiral staircase to get to and from your rooms was lovely too, it had real character! (There is a lift in the hotel, which we did opt for on a few occassions after walking all day around the beautiful city). Everytime we went past reception there was a different member of staff, all of whom always said hello and were polite and met out needs where needed. The breakfast in the hotel was nice and had varied choices each morning, just what we needed to start the day of exploring! As already stated the hotel is at the top of a hill but to be honest its not that bad and you get to look in all the little shops and bars on the way up or down! Prague castle is literally a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel, Charles Bridge is about a 15 minute walk, Old town is about 25 minutes from the hotel and Wenselas Square is approximately a 35 minute walk (depending if you get lost in all the little streets, which we did!!). There is also a nice little market area just off from Old Town where you can get souvenirs and gifts! In Old Town we paid to go up the clock tower which was about £3 a person and its well worth it as the views are amazing! We loved the mulled wine you could but in the streets, it really helped to keep us warm as it was snowing when we went which was lovely! Prague is a lovely city, with beautiful buildings and places to visit. We found three lovely restaurants to have tea, definately take time to choose where to eat as there are so many to choose from, we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but the menu looked nice and there were always people in there. We feel we got a very good deal with this hotel and feel very lucky, would definately recommend people to stay here!

We we're in Prague for the first time and the trip was a success. The hotel was very nice in a historical area of Praguecastle and near of many sights. We enjoyed a good breakfast each morning. The service was also very polite. The road to the hotel was uphill but it wasn't any problem because we enjoyed walking and exploring the beautiful houses along the way. We would recommend this hotel and would go there again. We definitely fell in love with Prague and go the again soon!

We stayed in this hotel from the 4th to the 7th of February. We chose to stay here based on previous reviews and we weren't dissapointed! When we arrived the receptionist was polite, friendly and seemed to really care about making sure we were happy, that night we ate in the hotel restaurant (it was quite late when we arrived) and again, the staff were very very friendly. All of the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly. Even offering us a place to store our suitcases after we checked out but before the transfer service picked us up, without us having to ask. It's the little things that make the difference!
The hotel itself was clean, our room was cleaned everyday. The twin room we stayed in was spacious and there was plenty of room for us. The added bonus was the beautiful view we had! The hotel is uphill so may not be advisable if you have a lot of trouble getting around but it's nothing too extreme. The close proximity to a lot of the main attractions also make this hotel an excellent choice.
We had breakfast included in our booking and it did not dissapoint. It was buffet style service and there was something for everyone.
All in all, we had an excellent stay.

I have just returned from a five night break at the Golden Star which met our requirements perfectly. The exterior of the hotel and surroundings are beautiful. The rooms and furnishings have character. The staff in the hotel were friendly and spoke English and the room was warm enough during our stay. The quality of the accommodation was good for the price. The bed was comfortable although it was two single mattresses on a double frame - I don't know if this is common in Prague. The shower was really good and powerful and the room was clean. On the down side the room smelt slightly of cigarette smoke and it would have been helpful if there was a price list for the mini bar in the room although I am sure we would have been provided with one if we had asked. I didn't fancy any of the hot breakfast but there was plenty of choice, cereals, cold meats, cheese and breads to find other things I could eat. The coffee was also not too bad and you could help yourself to as much as you liked. I think the breakfast was pretty much what you would expect and there was plenty of choice. The location of the hotel for us was excellent. Prague castle is literally 2 minutes walk away and all other sites are within walking distance. If you walk to the left hand side of the hotel (facing it) and carry on walking, there are fantastic views of the city and a way into Petrin Park. Walking everwhere is dependent on a certain level of mobility and enthusiasm for walking! The hotel is on a hill but it isn't too steep - I would recommend good, comfortable footwear with a good grip! The advantage of Mana Strana as a base was slightly cheaper restaurants with lots of character. I suspect Mana Strana is also slightly cheaper and quieter than other alternatives. Overall I was very pleased with our choice.

We stayed at the Golden Star for 3 nights 31st Jan 13 to 03 Feb 13. This was our first visit to Prague and this hotel had excellent reviews from previous customers and this was the main reason for our stay at this hotel. The hotel was in an excellent location in the castle district close to the entrance of the castle. The receptionist was very polite and efficient in allocating us our room on arrival. The double room was very clean and tidy and well decorated with large bathroom and had excellent views across to Charles Bridge in the distance. The room was cleaned and bedding and towels changed every day. All staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful, breakfast included good choices of food and was on a self service buffet basis. This hotel was first class and I would highly recommend a stay to other travelers to Prague. Hopefully we will be visiting again soon

Very nice hotel, great location! Comfy rooms, good breakfast. Very nice restaurant and great staff. Parking was limited and very expensive, we paid 20 euro a night and was not in front of hotel. Other then that and the walk up the hill, I recommend this hotel. Very close to everything, walking distance to all attractions, many restaurants and shops in the area.
