“ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

I stayed for two nights on a business trip. Room is spacious and did not disappoint. As a guest in the mini suite I got to eat breakfast in the smaller restaurant and it was very cosy and nice. Had I been made to go to the big restaurant it would have been a bad experience as I peeped in and saw the masses of groups sitting there. It was crowded, noisy and not at all a relaxed start of a day. Location is far from center but excellent metro option. We arrived late at night and found out that one of the two rooms we booked was sold and there was a small crisis there, eventually there found an option for the one night in a neighbouring hotel but this is not acceptable! WATCH OUT LATE ARRIVALS! Reception people are nice and did thieves to accommodate.

Room Tip: Mini suite if you can afford the difference

The hotel its 20 minutes away from the old town and the city centre by tram, metro or bus. All the transportation is just outside of the hotel door and its very easy to go around in this city. The hotel is not bad at all specially with a lot of bad reviews around but it lack a little investment in some areas.

The rooms are ok but the a/c seems always disconnected and its very difficult to put it on. The bathroom is small but the water pressure its very good. The fact that they don't bring an iron to the room its a down point specially when the ironing room is not good at all. The breakfast is also nice but not very spacious so it gets very crowded and very difficult to find a place to sit.

The staff is very nice and helps a lot to move around. They would call and make arrangement for you for basically everything. The room service its very fast and the food its good but its a petty that they don't have any local food dishes as a choice in the menu.

The hotel in general terms its nice but they really need to improve some things to get an extra touch.

Room Tip: The view for choosing a room its not a priority in this hotel. Try to get a room close to the common...

I had read all the reviews, half of them negative, so I was very apprehensive going I to this trio in Prague. Not sure what has changed, if anything, but this place is a jewel to someone who want comfortable, good accommodations in a convenient area at a good price.

We stayed 4 nights and the room was not elegant, but clean, comfortable and completely acceptable. The hotel was full of tour groups and the bar was packed yet there really was no smoke problems I. The bar and Lounge as one of the reviews talked about. The Tvs in the room had a good selections of English channels including. CNBC, CNN, Cnbc so I am not sure what one reviewer meant when he claimed hey had none.

The breakfast area is open 645am until 900am, if you go early thee will be less congestion but the food is good with a gear variety. Several of our group went in at 745 Am and it was a madhouse. So use common sense and go earlier if you don't like to wait.

The subway is really easy with escalators and in 5 stops you are in the old town for $1.50. Can't get much more convenient.

Stayed in hotel for 3 days for business. Location is not the best if you want to be near center of Prague but few meter away is Metro that will take you in 15 minutes to Center of city. Room was nice, large, clean. Breakfast was usual nothing special. But lunch and dinner were poor, all looked nice but they were tasteless. Wifi connection was source of many frustration since was not working as it would be expected in 4* hotel.

Room Tip: I think rooms on higher floors are more quiter if you mind street noise

This is a hotel that I stay at regularly, but infrequently as a business traveler. My review is based on my most recent visit, but could be considered a composite as unfortunately the same issues that I describe have persisted over months if not years.

The hotel is not badly located, with a Metro station directly adjacent. From there you can easily get to a business meeting or to the Old Town as a tourist, if you prefer.

The room are fine, and of a decent standard of cleanliness. The floor plans are unusual though, which gives the perception of being smaller than they actually are. In the bathrooms, the amenities are very sparse, with the use of refillable "squeeze bottles" of all-in-one shampoo/conditioner/body wash in place of the usual individual products. Not a big deal as most people who travel for a living carry their own products, but curious given the image the hotel attempts to portray - this sort of thing would be more suitable in a backpacker hostel.

One complaint with the bathroom is the shower stall: the drain is so slow that after only a minute (I timed it), you are up to your ankles in drain water. Tacky. It seems to be a design flaw of the shower enclosure, as I've had the exact same problem on multiple visits in different rooms.

The bed is fine, once you sort out the way the bedding is arranged. Prague was undergoing a heat wave when I visited, so the a/c was a necessity, and unfortunately it had an maddeningly intermittent squeal which did not contribute to a restful sleep. I deemed it less intrusive than having a technician come and try to fix it, or repacking my entire belongings to move to another room (with possibly the same problem) so just lived with it. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.

The major complaint of the hotel that would prevent anyone on business from seriously considering it (unless given no other choice by their employer) is the lack of internet service. The hotel advertises that it has complimentary internet service, yet the service is infuriatingly erratic. Occasionally for brief minutes it would work decently, but for the most part not at all, or waiting for literally minutes for a single web service to load. For anyone dependant on internet services to remain connected to their business or loved ones, it's totally unacceptable. There is no option to receive better service by paying for it. And this issue has persisted literally for YEARS, so obviously there is no will to resolve it. When I inquired with the front staff, they acknowledged that they get constant complaints. Yet, nothing is done? The verbatim response I was given was a shrug and the comment "What can I do?".

Other small quibbles. There is no in-room ironing equipment so be prepared to get dressed to iron a shirt on the 3rd floor common ironing room. The reason given for this is that in-room irons are a safety hazard. Yet, thousands of hotels around the world manage to cope?

Also, when I called to order room service, somehow the one item I requested, from the all-day menu, was "not available until 6pm". So the room service literature is not accurate either.

No, it is not a terrible hotel. Vastly overrated, yes. A lot of minor irritants that add up to a thoroughly mediocre experience. And surprising/disappointing, as most German-owned chains (as this one is) have very high standards. But while I could live with any of the minor problems, it is the attitude of the staff, who look at you like you have three heads when you (for example) politely ask if the internet is working, that is the major turnoff.

If I was traveling to Prague at my own expense I wouldn't even consider it.

Very nice room and hotel but had problems getting paper supplies restocked and Internet connection was very slow to non existent. Not enough towels, asked for extras but never got them. Some difficulty in languages but staff very friendly and courteous.

Room Tip: Metro stations right outside the hotel for easy use in getting to sights

We stayed in Dorint Don Giovanni for 2 nights and enjoyed everything. Staff was ecxellent, very helful and polite. The room was nice, very clean and had most of the necessary equipments for a 4* hotel. Bed was comfortable but the bathroom a little small but that did not affect our stay.
Hotel is not located right in the center so there are not too many things to see in walking distance but you have transport options such as metro, bus or tram. Information about events in the city including maps and brochures were available at reception. Planning another trip to Prague soon and i would choose the hotel again.
