“Wow! What a Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2005

My Husband and I have just returned from a four night stay at the Hotel Josef. We have only positive comments to make about this wonderful venue. The description of the Josef was "chic" and "minimilist" - would we as an older coupe (50's) fit into these surroundings we wondered? However, it sounded wonderful and we got a good deal via the Internet getting four nights for the price of three, so we went for it. Weren't we glad we did!
The Hotel lives up to all expectations and beyond. When we were shown to our room it definately was a "wow" reaction. Very modern, all the furniture and accessories very streamline, but most of all extremely clean, fresh and bright. We spent ages playing with all the gadgets, particularly enjoying the underfloor heating in the bathroom!
As described in previous reviews the breakfast was amazing - everything anyone could ever wish for. All beautifully prepared and presented. The Staff at the Hotel are very welcoming, cheery and willing to help with any problems.
When we return to Prague - I am sure we will as it is such a wonderful City - we would certainly stay at the Josef.

My wife and I booked the hotel online for a 4 night break in early February 2005. The photos on the website are impressive and are by no means inaccurate as we found out!

We booked a car to pick us up from the airport (a good idea for a first-time visitor) and we were met by our driver in the arrivals lounge. He was very welcoming and helpful and gave us a good introduction to the city as we made our way to the hotel.

The hotel itself is located on the border between the old town and the jewish quarter - ideal! Other reports that its location were on a side street and poorly lit were misleading. As you wander around Prague you find that most streets could be described as 'side' and its position is in keeping with the atmosphere around the old town. Everything is in walking distance - old town square 5 minutes, jewish quarter 5 minutes, Wenceslas square (hope I spelled this correctly!) 10 minutes and Prague castle 20-25 minutes.

The rooms are stylish, modern and very well equiped. Breakfast is amazing! Everything you could wish for and a few more treats thrown in. Struggled to eat much more all day after we fuelled-up for strolling around town.

We would definately return to the hotel - one of the best we have ever stayed in! Note, however, Prague in February is a bit chilly - dry and sunny but -10C! Need to pack the thermals!

We stayed in the Hotel Josef for 3 nights at the end of February and would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about taking a romantic break in this beautiful city.

We arranged with the Hotel to send a car to pick us up from the airport as we were a bit worried about reports we had heard about the taxi's that operate in Prague. Jaraslav (I think that is it) was waiting for us as we arrived and quickly took us to the hotel. On route he told us about all the historic sites we were passing and pointed out some good places to eat, so it was like having our own guide of the city. I would recommend being collected from the airport - no stress and a fantastic introduction to the city.

Check in was easy and the room fantastic. So modern, so clean and everything you need. The bathroom was something else, with it's glass walls.

The breakfasts were fantastic - everything you could hope for and all sorts of coffee's to chose from - latte for breakfast fantastic. There is a menu to order from for omlettes and pancakes and other things, but there is also hot breakfast at the buffet . After learning this, we did not feel it necessary to order from the menu after the first morning.

The bar was relaxing and the service superb - very attentive without making you feel you were being rushed in any way. The reception staff were great, happy to help with advice on where to go and how best to get there, giving you maps to help you get from A to B.

On arrival, as usual you fill in a card, on here they ask for your date of birth and from that they know if you have a birthday during your stay. The reason for our trip was that it was my boyfriends birthday - when we got back to our room on his birthday, we had a bottle of champagne and some fresh strawberries, what a lovely touch.

The hotel is very well placed and within walking distance of all the sights. On our first day we walked all the way to Prague castle. This took about 45 minutes but of course we were strolling looking at shops and sights as we went. If you walk, there are a number of stairs to climb, so if you are not very mobile, you would be better taking the bus which stops outside the castle. There is a changing of the guard every hour, with a more full ceremony at mid day - great to see. Charles bridge is a must with wonderfull statue's and lots of people selling pictures and stuff. We also went up Petrin Hill to watch the kids sledge - it was great.

Food is good and very reasonable. Les Moules on Parizska trida was lovely, as too was Pravda (food very nice but portions quite small). The Crazy Cow (a steak house) on Dlouha was very good value for money and lovely place to eat.

A good place for Cocktails was the Bombay Cocktail Bar, also on Dlouha and very close to the Josef so easy to get home after a few very good cocktails.

Other reports say that the hotel is in a bit of a dark street - we did not find anything wrong with it's situation - it is well lit and we had no concerns whatsoever when we were out and about.

All in all a lovely city and an absolutely fantastic hotel - I would go back anytime. Superb, well done to all the staff in this great hotel.

Please e-mail me if you want to know anything about the hotel or the city and I will do my best to help you.

We spent 3 days here on a Jet2 break and found the hotel superb an excellent location for the old town. The rooms are very upmarket, spotlessly clean and the beds are massive. The breakfasts are out of this world such a choice and all the staff were so friendly and helpfull.
Prague itself was lovely, very cold but thankfully theres lots of cafes serving wonderful hot chocolate. The little Italian restaurant on the way into the old town is a must and the Staropramen beer is like nectar.
We had a lovely romantic break here and will definately be back for more.

Spent three days at this hotel just before Christmas 2004 with wife and 3 daughters and I agree with all the positive comments. Rooms and staff were first rate and location is ideal for the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Hradcany, Xmas markets etc.

The quality of service puts many larger and more expensive hotels to shame and the breakfasts were enjoyed by the whole family - no small feat with three picky children!

Definitely one to return to.

just got back from a short break in Prague staying at this amazing designer hotel. despite looking so cool, the Josef was still really cosy and made a great base from which to explore Prague, as the hotel is very well situated. we got upgraded to one of the superior rooms with a glass bathtroom, which is well worth seeing!

staff are very friendly and helpful, the breakfast (served 'til 12!!!) is awesome - needless to say we will be going back!
