“Cool Hotel with many creative details, ideas and offerings – small rooms and surprisingly standard crowd”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

The exceptional ratings of Maximilian made me curious and so I spent a bit more than I originally wanted to get my superior room at this applauded place. As the guest relations manager event took my specific requirements for a room full of light I was surprised to be offered a super-small single room under the roof (something I had specifically declined upfront). With some extra effort I managed to get a decent room facing the front building – which was must about okay but not so exceptional as you would expect. One of the cool ideas is to offer goldfish as a living decoration – which arrived on day 2 of my stay and the first aquarium was empty (the clerk only discovered this when he was in my room…). I did not test other offerings but it’s certainly unique to offer in-room training equipment or morning runs (jogging).
Breakfast is above standard with a choice of fresh eggs, juices, fruit etc. There is even a Swiss-style Muesli which is better than at one of the Swiss hotels I stayed…
Sleeping quality is fabulous and also amenities in the bathroom are good. Reception is most helpful with tipps and questions, although their knowledge of the local restaurant landscape was surprisingly limited. They offer free tea and coffee throughout the day and an honesty self-service bar where you mark the drinks you take. All in all, an efficient modern concept that should cater to a cool, hip clientele. Hence, I was surprised to find quite many mainstream guests – of course everyone was very nice.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are quite small, superior are worth the extra money.

We went to Prague during Easter Holidays 2015 and decided to book a room at the Maximilian because of all the good reviews - it was also suggested by the great Karen Feldman Artel Style Travel Guide (which I also highly recommend because it's totally different than any other travel guide you can find in the market).

I was already expecting a good service but was really VERY impressed with this hotel. The staff is amazing, rooms were extremely comfortable (nice Orla Kiley ammenities), location is perfect and that breakfast, oh my... probably the best hotel breakfast we had in a long time travelling around Europe, so many option to choose from!

The concept of the Honesty Bar is also really interesting - it was lovely to have coffee, tea and cakes after a long day walking around the city! The commom areas of the hotel are very beautiful and comfortable as well...

Location is simply perfect - we walked everywhere and didn't use public transportation not even once! Besides being located near the most important attractions, there are several nice bars and restaurants nearby.

My favourites, all located within 5min walking distance from the hotel: Lokal (great food and beer - try their beef tartar!), the Prague Beer Museum (30 beers on tap, only local breweries - try any beer from Matuska, best Czech brewery in my opinion!) and the Kolkovna (great option for traditional food and fresh Pilsner Urquell). A bit further away was the Grand Cafe Orient, which was one of my favourites for it's atmosphere, decor, great food and very nice staff! And one of the best places we ate at while in Prage: Café Savoy (great food and the best cakes in town!).

Re attractions, we've visited all the usual places a tourist go in the city. Some which were a bit off the beaten path were the Kepler Museum (quite small but very emotional for those who like science), the Mucha Museum (great for those who love Art Nouveau paintings and printings), a visit to the Estates Theatre to watch Don Giovanni (this is the very same theatre where it was first performed it, back in 1787), the Palác Lucerna (an Art Nouveau architectural gem with a stunning cafe) and the charming Novy Svet street, a bit of a walk from the Castle but definitely worth it (there is a small and lovely cafe in this street as well - the best coffee we had in the whole trip!).

Prague is an amazing city, so beautiful and full of history and culture! Hope to be back soon - and most definitely I'd stay at the Maximilian again!

This hotel was an excellent choice for our short visit to Prague. The efficient service and enthusiasm of all the staff sets the friendly tone of the Hotel. The room was well equipped and the breakfast buffet innovative and very well presented. It is in a very handy location, 5/7 minutes from the Old Town Square and close to numerous restaurants. It would be hard to get better value and is thoroughly recommended.

This was our first visit to Prague and we wanted to do it up right. The hotel Max lived up to its review reputation. From the moment we were picked up at the airport we felt pampered. The hotel staff was friendly, knowledgeable and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

The decor is modern. It is immaculate throughout. The extras were fantastic. There was a library, modern business center, and a lounge with pastry and espresso always available. Any wish was taken care of immediately.

The rooms (we had a superior deluxe) was nice sized, clean and well appointed with its own espresso machine, refrigerator, and extras. A decent size bathroom with terrific shower. The bed was very comfortable. The towels were very soft and the the bed linens crisp and fresh, also soft.

The breakfast was the best we had encountered on this two week trip, with eggs benedict or omelets in addition to the normal fare. The wait staff was always smiling and very helpful. Whatever we wanted came in a flash. Hot things were hot and cold things were cold. The staff could not do enough.

Room Tip: Pick a room that does not overlook the street. It might not be as good a view but will be more quie...

Loved it here! The rooms had plenty of space, lots of shelves and cubbies to unpack everything. We stayed at 3 hotels in Europe and this breakfast was hands down the best. It's like going to a brunch every morning. Huge buffet with lots of options but you can also order off the menu (waffles, creeps, eggs Benedict). I never had to eat lunch the 5 days we were there. Quiet area, but close to walk to several bars, restaurants within a couple of minutes. Less than 5 minutes to old town, and 10 minutes max to the bridge. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Booked for 3 nights using tripadvisor as our guide for choice plus a central location.
Wow what a choice, from a lovely welcome from Sam on reception to the amazing breakfast team. This hotel has thought of everything.
A pet goldfish in your room if you fancy, a very well stocked honesty bar, huge soft beds and nice coffee machine in your room.
Have to mention the breakfast team again with food served until 11 30 and 22 30 on sunday there was so much time to graze. Amazing food!
You won't go wrong for location surrounded by eating places and 5 mind from river or square.
Do it book it!
