“Stay away from the bed bugs!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2006

This place sucks. The staff is mean and not helpful. I left this hotel covered with bed-bug bites! Bed-bug bites hurt, especially when you have to sit on a plane and head back to CA all itchy! I am not even sure if they wash thier sheets. Oh, and there is no elevator! The only thing that is good about this hotel is the free internet.

After reading some of the reviews on the website I was a bit worried about what I was going to find, however I was pleasently surprised, we got a taxi from the airport to the hotel which cost about £30 between the two of us, the receptionist was lovely and spoke very good English, we had arrived before the check n time but only had to wait 30 minutes and was in our room by 11am. The room was clean and plenty of room for two people with tea making facilities, the bathroom was clean and modern with a hot powerful shower. The breakfast was ok, as you would expect in Europe, and the Metro station was literally 5 minutes away and the centre of old town prague was just 6 stops away. As for the noise complaints as per previous reviews we didn't experience any problems with thin walls as previously mentioned, all in all would recommend for cheap accomodation and great location.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — The area around the hotel looked a bit run down

This is a terrible hotel,I think.
The reason is below along with the hotel amenitis.

+24-hour front desk

No.
When I arrived at this hotel, I was scoled by the receptionist.
She said,"Why didn'd you call ?
You should call us during your staying anytime you come back, because it is often that there is no staff at the front desk".

But I was not given such an info in advantage.

+Wake-up calls

No.
There is no alarm clock, and telephone is very simple without alarm.
So I asked wake-up calls to the receptionist.
She looked apparently reluctant to do that, but she said OK.

But next morning, there was no wake-up call.
I claimed her, she said "Oh,I forgot".
If you stay this hotel, don't forget alarm clock.

+Private bathroom

Yes.
But the space especially shower booth is too narrow.
Though I'm 169cm and 52kg(skinny), I felt so.
Its size is 1m around.
But the water came out abundantly.

There were soap and one "hair and body shampoo".
Women,don't forget your conditioner.

+Breakfast available (surcharge)

Yes. This wasn't bad, cornfrakes, bread, orange juice,
cut cucumber and bellpepper, yougrt, boiled egg and so on.

But the coffee was not hot when I went down past 7 o'clock.
Next morning, at past 9 o'clock, it was hot enough.

+room

The wall is too thin and I could hear the voices, sigh,
toilet flash and fart of the next room.
Also the room is so narrow.
But it's cheap and might be unavoidable.

+Airport transportation (surcharge)

Yes.
The hotel arrange the taxi to the air port at the cost of
630 koruna, which is put up at the front desk.

If you go to there using public transportation by yourself,
it costs only 40 koruna.

by Taxi: about 20~30 min.
by yourself : about 1hour door to door.

+Sewing kit

No.
There wasn't sewing kit, so this isn't true.

+Electric plug

For digital camera, I looked for power receptacle.
I found it finally but It was hard to see and there was
no vacant electric plug.

If you use electric device, pull out socket of the lamp
which is beside a bed.

+Heating

There was heating but didn't work.
At night the temprature was low, so I asked the reception
to turn the heating on.

She looked reluctant apparently but said yes, but
finally it didn't work.
So I took a hot shower and went to bed.
The room was so cold.

+No Elevator

I overlooked this important item.
I made a reservation of a discount room, so my room was
on the 4th floor.

But there was no elevator, it was so hard to bring my suitcase
up to my room.
Plus, the reception is in the 0 floor, I brought it up to the
5th floor in plactice!

When check out, the suitcase was fulled with souvenirs and
so heavy.

Conclusion:
As it is very cheap, I think it is unavoidable that the room or
shower booth are narrow, the staff's training isn't enough,
and the wall is thin.

But for example, wake-up call or heating, I think it's
necessary for HOTEL, not relating to its price.

So, I think that I'll never stay this hotel.

I stood at the Hotel Apollo in March 2005. I made the booking through a travel operator for student. The price for the rooms was very cheep, € 14 per night, breakfast included, with a free night if we chose to stay at least four nights.
Once we arrived there snow had fallen in the city, but Hotel Apollo was very comfortable and nice. It's in a very quiet district, Prague 8, a bit far from the center, but very easy to reach, as the underground stop (Kobylisy) was 5 minutes far, as well as the tram stop (lines 14 and 17), which is better than the underground as it allows you to take a good look at the center! The rooms were clean and comfortable and the bathroom facilities (with shower) looked brand new. We also had a satellite TV, which transmitted Czech and German programs, but also BBC World was visible.
Though the temperature was rather low (3°C) the room was warm as there were double-glass windows, and a set for making tea or hot beverages was provided.
The breakfast was a continental one, and you could get whatever you wanted (even rice paella, wurstels and other kinds of meat were available)! Even a bread heater was provided, so that everyone could have even hot toasts!
The staff were very pleasant and helpful and spoke a good English, and it seems to me there was a free parking for the guests. The rooms were cleaned every day and towels were always replaced with clean ones.
Only two small negative things:
1) the bathroom had the pipelines of HOT water passing inside it, so it was not warm, but there would have been at least 30°C there (but in winter it might be positive...); 2) there is no elevator (not important, as my room was at 1st floor and the hotel is small, 3 floors in total, but what would happen if the guest was a person using a wheelchair?).
In the end, definitely a place to recommend: excellent service and food, placed in a quiet area, easy t reach and very, very, very cheap!
I'll stay there when I go back to Prague!

  • Liked — Breakfast!
  • Disliked — No elevator, and a huge hot water tube passe into the bathroom, where there was a high temperature!
  • Tips/Secrets — Go to the center by tram (line 14 or 17) instead of underground: you will enjoy a great trip!

I loved Prague but very disappointed with my stay in 3*Ave Apollo. Photos do a lot of justice on website which I found rather shabby. There is no bar as advertised. Staff were not very friendly and had a "don't bother us "attitude. At least the room was cleaned and towels were changed on a daily basis.

just back from a long weekend in prague. good thing there was plenty to see and do there as the least amount of time spent in hotel(3 star?) the better. staff were not very helpful or friendly as felt like we were being a nuisance to them by just asking the usual touristy questions. there was no restaurant or bar even though they advertise on their website of having both. also there was no waiting staff on site for breakfast duties. i know its a buffet but the kettle needs to be filled and the bread rolls need to be replaced, they appeared to be shut behind the kitchen door with a do not disturb sign in place! having said that the breakfast provided was ample and plentiful (though dont understand why pasta and salad need to be included) and the bedroom though small and basic was clean and towels replaced daily. i do agree with the comment made in other reviews about the walls being paper thin as you can hear the toilet flushing, shower and tv on etc in the adjoining room.
its ideally located as trams and metro close by which take you into the city centre.
