Description: The inspired menu is the creation of Executive Chef Jiří Štift; determined to revive the Golden Era of Czech cuisine for today’s high gourmet levels. He has also selected dishes from Asia, each prepared for the purity of individual flavours. In the early 20th century Prague was a European culinary centre. Chef Štift has immersed himself in the archives and culled the best from earlier cuisine ambassadors to create a menu for the modern palate.

“Great (!) food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

One of the best places in Prague to have a Thai inspired food. Some food is really hard to match elsewhere in Prague. Nice restaurant and cellar in a beautiful old building. Close to five star rating (that I could not give due to waiting time to be seated, possibly a one time error but not acceptable in an establishment of this price level).

“We will be back for the brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

We wanted to do something special to celebrate a birthday and the wine brunch at Essenssia couldn't be a better fit. It was just marvelous. The four course menu with two options to pick from for each course was excellent food with every single bite. The kids had a 3 course meal and this was served with the same eye for details. Service was so attentive and very well trained. We went in december and to entertain the kids they had set up a cookie cutting and decorating station for them in one of the back rooms. After dessert they had their freshly baked cookies delivered to the table in a cute take-out box.
The Czech wines that were featured this month surprised us in a very positive way so that we even bought two bottles to take home.
We will for sure be back for more of this great experience!

“Excellent. Try the Weekend Wine Brunch Menu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

As other reviewers have commented, this restaurant has the highest standards of both food and service. I've been here multiple times and have never had anything even slightly out of place.

I was most recently here for the Weekend Wine Brunch Menu which I cannot recommend highly enough. The food was very tasty and more than ample, the pairings were excellent, and the sommelier was very generous on the multiple pours! By the end of the meal we were happily stuffed with wonderful food, and having to turn down wine for fear of being drunk although we dearly wanted to drink more as both the quality and variety were fantastic.

For 1150 CzK (59.4 USD / 45.5 EUR) this represents excellent value.

The added bonus is that the wine is local Czech wine so if you want to really try and learn about some of the best Czech wine available, paired perfectly, then this is THE place to go in Prague.

The staff are wonderful - very child friendly.

I've eaten here both indoors and outside when the weather has permitted and it's always been a good experience.

“Crypt style restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This tastefully decorated restaurant is located in a part of the old monastery with curved crypt style ceilings that add to the ambiance.
I chose the Beef Carpaccio with the normal parmesan cheese shavings and a herb salad -- as you would expect from this staple menu item it was nice.
I plummed for the Grilled salmon fillet with sautéed spinach and gratin potatoes. the salmon was well cooked, moist, tasted very fresh. The spinach was freshly sautéed complemented the gratin potatoes well - possibly could have done with a dribble of sauce or beurre blanc.
Again another favourite - Tirami su, I’m always interested in judging this sweet as i make a mean one. This was constructed slightly differently, instead of the normal lasagne style build this was served with a light chocolate ice cream ball, 2 moist sponge fingers, a rich mascarpone quenelle all dusted with chocolate dust - rather nice.
The staff are all well drilled, polite, pleasant and knowledge
Worth a visit.

“Great meals, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

I can highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who likes high quality food and service. It does not serve only asian cuisine or czech cuisine, as one may guess from book advisors. Weekend brunches are great and one always learns something new about food or wines thanks to friendly staff. Business lunches during weekdays are served quickly (very quickly if you ask for it) and are delicious too. As regular guests to this restaurant, we decided that this restaurant will be the first place where we try eating out with our one year old baby. We had such a lovely day. No stress. Smiling and very helpful staff. The staff found a quiet place, where we did not disturb anyone and brought the meals just as we needed. Thanks to all that even my baby became a regular guest. :-) So far, we have never been dissapointed !
