I had booked a ticket for a performance of the Czech Philharmonic at the Rudolfinum for my first night in Prague. What a wonderful evening. The concert included 3 compositions, one of which was the premiere of an exciting piece called the Melancholy Chicken. Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante Opus 125 for cello and orchestra with a guest cellist that was remarkable. And one of my favorites - Beethoven's Fifth Symphony rounded out the evening. The conductor is terrific, the concert hall magnificent, and the audience truly loves their orchestra. Without exaggeration there was a half hour of applause with at least 4 curtain calls, and an encore performance by the cellist. Before the performance there were drinks and refreshments in the lobby, with people milling around and chatting. I had suspected that people dress up for concerts - there were cocktail dresses, long and short, and formal attire for men as well - so I was glad I brought an appropriate outfit. Tickets can be bought in advance online and do sell out. I chose first balcony seat which was perfect! Very reasonable too!
