We spent 7 nights in 1.Republic hotel and we enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is quite close to old town square (it's a 15-minute walk). It's very clean and well organized. The breakfast is very good with a variety of choices. It provides guests with free wireless Internet with good speed. Also, there's a computer room for those who haven't brought their computers, and of course, it's free of charge. The building, itself, is pretty old; however, it's been renovated very exquisitely so you get the feeling that you are in a modern hotel.
Honestly, everything about the hotel is almost perfect, nevertheless, there are a few minor issues which may be worth knowing. For example, on breakfast table there are a number of different sausages, processed meat, omelets and etc; my wife doesn't eat pork, and she wanted to know which one contains pork, beef or chicken. It took us some time to eventually someone told us which food contains what. It might be much more useful if there was a sign for each dish explaining the meal. The other issue is with the rooms. We'd paid for the cheapest room, and we found it very small. But since you'd spend most of the time of your stay outside; this shouldn't be a big deal. The bed was made of two separate single beds, so you may find yourself sinking in the gap of the mattresses, in the middle of the night. The other issue is on the service, and is more like a comment on a few reviews that I read about this hotel when I was looking for an accommodation in Prague. True! the staff are a bit cold. But remember that you are in Prague being quite notorious on customer-service-related issues. In my opinion, the service that we got was, by far, better than any other services that we saw during our stay in Prague.
In the end I would like to say that the hotel and the service lived up to our expectations...
If the size of the room matters for you, don't go for the cheapest room!
