“great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

we really enjoyed our stay at the first republic hotel in prague. it has an excellent location, 5 minute walk from wenceslas square. it's right in the middle of everything, basically. the street it's located on isn't so nice with a bit of graffiti, but for us, a couple in their early 20s, who cares?!

we got a nice clean room with a decent shower (though a bit small) and a good breakfast buffet for a really good deal. the people working the register were also very helpful.

the only downside is that our sheets seemed to have an old bloodstain on them! it was small and the sheets had obviously been washed, but it's still a bit awkward.

all in all, though, we've recommended this place to lots of people. excellent value!

We stayed at Hotel 1. Republic for just one night on April 24, 2013. The gentleman at the the reservation desk was very nice and spoke excellent English. The room was expansive and absolutely stunning. We had a very large bedroom, a just as large sitting room with a flat screen TV and a beautiful bathroom.. Internet was fast and efficient. It is also situated in area where you can walk through the whole city in just a matter of minutes.

Our first trip to Prague. An excellent, spacious and reasonable place to stay. Good beds. Top location, just a short walk to Wenclas Square, but not far from the old town.
We will highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had rooms towards the street, but we did not notice any traffic noise.

This hotel is excellent, very modern, clean and spacious rooms. The location is really good too. My wife stayed here in November and when we came back in April we decided to stay here again as she recommended it. I was not disappointed. It's nice to go someone where you know the standards are high and is good value for money. On top of all this Prague as a capital city is not expensive, food and drink is very reasonably priced.

We stayed here for 3 nights.
- The location is fine, about a 5-10 minute walk from the Wenclas Square. The location is neither perfect nor picturesque (street you have to cross in order to get to the Wenclas square called Ve Smeckach is notorious for its strip bars) but for the price you pay, it is hard to get a hotel in the 4* category closer to the city center.
- The room is clean but tiny with major T, the bed is comfy. Bathroom has no shelves or drawers - one has nowhere to put his perfume or make up, light is sufficient though. The water pressure could be better.
- Breakfast was surprisingly plentiful and variety was very good.
- Housekeping staff was lounging around and chatting whenever we walked by, never seemed to be able to greet any of the guests. BUT my biggest complaint is that when I accidentally left my Michael Kors watch in the room upon departure (I am absolutely sure I left it there)... surprise, surprise, no one seemed to have found it. Guess that the housekeeping staff was not only rude, but dishonest as well.

Since I do not support dishonest business or a business that supports dishonest employees, I would absolutely not stay again.

We booked a deluxe room with 4 persons .
One of the room was proper bedroom , the other one is not , may be that was for young people or kids , but me and my wife managed well because of our sizes :) .
Restroom is a very big and good one , reception stuff was extremely helpful & professional and speaks good English .
Plenty of options were there in breakfast at morning .
Easily reachable from the metro station and #22 tram stop I.P.Pavlova with the guidance from Hotel stuff and I.P Pavlova is close to central railway station ,just couple of stops .
5 mins walk to Wenceslas Square and lot of restaurants there near square .
The short cut road to Wenceslas Square from Hotel may not be liked by everybody , as it goes through a red light area , but we followed the same path at night twice with family and without problem and it was mentioned by the hotel reception in advance . So either you can enjoy the walk or just quickly pass away :) .
Hotel has a luggage room where we kept our luggage for next day after checking out and collected it at night .
You will be supplied with a city map by the reception if asked for .
We are very satisfied for what we paid .

This is a very well located hotel, just a 10 minute walk from Wencelas Square and it is a 5 minute walk from the nearest Metro and Tram stop.

The underground car park is secure and quite unusual to use!

The quality and finish of the bathroom in our room was good.

It is in a very quiet area, so one can get a good night's sleep (as long as your room neighbours are quiet, as the walls are fairly thin!)

If one compares this to other 4* hotels in Prague, such as the Movenpick, for instance, then it does not seem to merit its star rating. Our room was rather small (although adequate) and the breakfast was good, but not as good as I'd expect from a 4* in central Europe. This seems like a very good 3* hotel, which is also reflected in the price.
