“Two nights in Prague”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We have been at the Old Time hotel for 2 nights in december 2012.
it is "all right" but the structure is old and should be fixed up a bit.
The manager/owner is very nice and ready to help at at any time.
Rooms are a bit messy, definitively different.
Decorated in a strange way but ok.
Breakfast could be better.
Location is very good.
It would have been fine, but the price we had to pay was really huge for what the Old Time hotel is.

I spent a week in Prague with my brother and a bunch of friends and we found the most welcoming environment in this hotel. It is not too flashy but it is very artistic and has a unique atmoshpere. Something that Kafka described in his stories from Prague. IPersonally I value it more than luxury.Thanx

The hotel features individually designed rooms, and my room was spacious and nice. The location was convenient. Free WiFi. I could access the common area with kitchen and tables/chairs for dining or work. However, there were some uncomfortable moments. First, it takes ages to get someone from the reception open the door. I think that only one of the reception staff speaks some English - another one just nodded but we had to communicate in the mixture of English, Russian, and Czech. The breakfast room is very small and since the breakfast time starts late (8.00), soon there is no space for everyone. There was no hairdresser in the bathroom.

By and large the hostel was fine, what you might call cheap and cheerful. For a few days away it will probably meet your requirements, and the breakfast was better than I would have expected. The double room I stayed in was clean and the shower etc worked perfectly.

It is not a hotel with respect to there being a full time reception, or even a front desk for that matter. You need to buzz at the door when you first arrive, and it took a good few minutes before someone came to the door. Hence the key fob your given electronically allows entrance at the front door and a normal key to gain access to your room. There is only a single key per room available and as we were a large group and some of the rooms were occupied by three and four people, this became something of a logistics issue when returning back at separate times, especially as you needed a fob to get through the front door. In our case two of the multi occupied rooms were on the ground floor and bangs on the window were good enough to get someone to let you in.

The hostel is located in a relatively quiet street but not that far from many amenities, i.e. bars, restaurants and fast food places, and of course the Metro station. There is a bar on the corner, just a few doors down from the hostel, that is open from 16:00 to 03:00 in the morning. There's no problem with noise from it and we found it a useful place to regroup before heading out, or even for a last drink on the way back in the early hours!

I would estimate the hostel is no more than a 15/20 minute walk from the top of Wenceslas Square.

This is a hotel which is very good value money, it is worth bearing in mind that it is cheap so you shouldn't expect too much. Breakfast is very poor with limited choice and no lift so carrying suitcases to the top floor is a real struggle. However, the room was very nice and clean with a lovely four poster bed and a very good size. The TV only has Czech channels which was disappointing but this type of hotel is perfect if you just need a place to stay at night because it is in a good location not central but only a ten minute walk to Wencelas Square where it's all going on. Wi fi is avaliable for free which was great. Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. En/suite was very tiny and floor kept flooding from the shower. I will be returning to Prague but not staying in this hotel, I would recommend it defintley if you are going on a budget & don't really plan on spending much time in your room but next time I will pay that bit more because on holiday you should treat yourself I feel!

The hotel is very good located (5 min walk from the metro station), very clean and the staff is really helpful. The breakfast was good (maybe better than expected). Great value for the money.

Overall the hostel was okay. Theres no huge sign in front of it, so it was difficult to find. You won’t see a lot of people roaming around, it’s very quite. This includes the hostel itself and the streets around the area.

Pros:
-Staff was very friendly. We found a small bug in our room and they were nice enough to remove it. Although that was a negative experience the rest of the room and bathroom was clean.
-The metro/subway station is a few blocks away from the hostel. About a 5 minute slow walk. During the night I didn’t feel relatively safe to roam the streets in this area since it was very quite.

Cons:
-Relatively far from the city center, you need to take a subway/metro to get there. Be sure to purchase the correct metro pass. The machines are completely in Czech which is a bit hard to understand. Accidently, my friend and I bought the wrong metro pass and were fined 800czech currency. However, when trying to ask the “metro guard” to explain what metro pass we had to use, he did not want to respond and was completely rude. Later on we were told by locals that usually these “metro guards” do this to tourist to earn extra money and the local police rewards them.
