The 2 tours I did in Prague (free tour, castle tour) were full of interesting but ultimately completely random facts, and tended to gloss over the historical context and in no way addressed why things happened. The guides were entertaining, but were unable to provide a story about Prague. So I learned that a defenestration started the Thirty Years war, but not why it did or how that war affected Prague itself. Neither tour for instance addressed the various ethnicities and their histories in the area in any serious way. Despite spending 20 minutes in the Jewish quarter, we go a silly story for about 5 minutes about some mythical character called Golem and only 1 minute on the history of Jews in general in the city before the 20th cent. I still don't understand the history or role of Germans in the country despite a total of 7 hours of tours. What matters most in history is context and motivation - without that, it's just random facts that serve mo purpose. The tours were conducted by Karel and Amy (I think).
