On a previous trip, my husband had been to a churrascuria restaurant. Meat on a stick was how he described it. During our family holiday to Prague, we spent all three evenings looking for this restaurant. Of course, we discovered many other tasty restaurants, but not this one. Lo and behold on our last evening in Prague, we discovered it was just around the corner from our hotel.
If you are staying in the old quarter near Wenceslas Square (or more accurately, rectangle), and if you head towards the Old (Gun)Powder Tower, you will be in the general direction. Can't give you more specifics than that.
We weren't sure what to do, and the waitress is very helpful with the instructions. It's very simple. You are given a coaster that is red on one side and green on the other. When you are ready to eat, you turn it to green. When you are done, you turn it to red.
The meals are very generous. I think after conversion, it works out to around £25 per meal, not including drinks. For this you get a wonderful and endless array of antipasto, sushi, salad, and fruit. When you are ready you turn your coaster to green, and along come the waiters with "meat on sticks" who will slice a portion off for you. At first it seems rather stingy. Small slices of meat that look like it will do little to fill you. But each waiter comes along with a different cut - pork, beef, chicken, and other innards like liver or kidney. It's a very good way to try many different cuts of meat at very low risk. The baked pineapple was divine. Everything was delicious and there was so much on offer.
I very much wished we could have stayed longer to dine more leisurely. But we had only about an hour to eat before rushing back to the hotel to catch our flight. Still we pretty much rolled out of the place.
