I stayed 3 nights at the end of April and loved this hostel. Three of us paid $26 each (through hostels.com) for a huge room with attached kitchen (fridge, microwave, non-working stove, cutlery, some dishes and dining table). We booked a room with a shared bathroom, but only shared with one other room, so it wasn't inconvenient.
The location in New Town was close to all the major sights - 5 minute walk to the river, 10 minute walk to Charles Bridge, 15 minute walk to the Old Town Square). There are two grocery stores nearby - Albert on the left-hand side of Na Pestyne (the main road leading from the hostel to the Old Town Square) or Tesco just a bit further down.
The security is a bit different. You have to knock to be let in the front door (24 hour reception) and then get your key from the receptionist (you have to hand it in each time you leave). Then the door to each hallway is locked as well. We felt very secure!
