“Great Place for Local Food and Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

We were on a AMA river cruise that started in Prague. We read a blog from someone who recommended this restaurant. I was a perfect meal. The restaurant is a little hard to find as it is off the square by the big clock. What a find. Local atmosphere, like you were eating in a medieval tavern old wooden sleds on the ceiling, old wooden tables, etc. The food is excellent. My wife had the gnocchi with spinach and english bacon. It was the best gnocchi we had tasted anywhere. I ordered a local sausage and cabbage dish that was also excellent with a side order of Sauerkraut pancakes, that was so large we shared it with four teenagers sitting at the table next to us. With local beer to accompany the meal we were in heaven. Unfortunately the meal portions were so large we didn't have room for desert. The total cost for the two of us was approx $35.

“Probably the best you'll get in the tourist trap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

It's Prague. Everyone knows you're a tourist...there's no hiding that when you screw up your best Czech asking for a table for two. We found this place had a much nicer ambiance than some other places. Staff were friendly, even if they occasionally disappeared. Food was good quality, huge (too big?) portions which seriously kept us going for almost the next 24 hours! I'd definitely recommend this one if you're looking for Slavic-esque food with that casual 'Bierstube' atmosphere.

“Overstated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

The ambiance was really good. The food was overstated. The sauce of goulash was good but the meat was firm and tasteless. The steak with plum sauce was ok too.

Generally the staff was very rude.

“Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Attracted by the good valuations from our fellow visitors we decided to step in. We were on our way to another top rated restaurant when we spotted this nicely decorated restaurant and looked up its recommendations. Unfortunately, our stay was quite unpleasant, at least when it comes to food quality. Decorations are very cosy, and the staff is friendly and attentive. But the food we ordered was unbelievable bad. The Prague Ham was warm but very dry. It appeared to have waited to be served a long time before we entered the site. The 400g Entrecote was the toughest piece of meat I ever tried to chew. The homemade Gnocchi were more or less OK but the bacon that was supposed to accompany them was missing.
Although we left more than half of our steak on the plate the waiter did not ask if the food was OK. Looks like they are used to it.

“Really really good goulash, served in bread”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Pros:
- really tasty czech food - especially the goulash served in bread. I felt this was a pretty generous serving size. Could feed 2 adults comfortably! And at 165Kc (under $AU10, that's a BARGAIN!)
- service was great, really friendly & very prompt
- not particularly touristy/crowded - nice relaxed ambience (plus the alley-like entrance sure took me back a few centuries!)

Cons:
- nothing. I would definitely come back here!
