“Modern brewery with delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

The interior of this brewery is made from old wood barrels in which was Becherovka. Wonderful idea... They have all specialties of Czech cousine. I had spareribs with grilled vegetable and baked potatoes, it was very good. However, beer was even better.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013 via mobile

Based on several positive reviews, we gave this place a try. We came on a Thursday evening. The windowless, underground restaurant has the llok and feel of a basement. The large restaurant was nearly empty. The manager and staff were standing around the bar chatting, and they acted as if we were intruding. When they finally decided to seat us, they took us to a separate room at the far end of the restaurant with a TV blaring a soccer match which no one was watching. When we asked if we could be seated at one of the many empty tables in the main restaurant, we were told that they were all reserved--perhaps because my wife and I had our three-year-old with us. After being seated we waited 20 minutes, and no one appeared to offer us a menu. I Finally went and picked up menus myself from the nearest waitstaff station. After making our selections, we waited another 15 minute--and no one appeared to take our order. We finally gave up and left.

On the way out, I walked up to the manager (who was still chatting with his staff near the bar) and expressed my disappointment. Without saying a word, he simply turned his back to me and carried on with his chat. I am generously giving one star, because I am told that the beer made on-site is excellent. But the management and staff are the most arrogant and listless that I have ever experienced.

“Traditional Restaurant - KV Beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

The new Karel IV restaurant is more than welcome in Karlovy Vary. The old Jan Becher distillery and head office is converted into a food and drink court and in the basement housing it’s Karel IV Restaurant. And, since many years Karlovy Vary has its own beer again. The new brewery is actually in the restaurant and can be seen from the many caves. And of course, as this is Czech Republic the beer tastes as it could expect in Czech Republic; GOOD. Although everything is brand new in this restaurant, the owners gave it a traditional medieval style and this worked out great. Many traditional dishes and quality is beyond expectation. In case you want to visit restaurant for a meal; make a reservation. As they have many seats, it never gives you the feeling that you are in a large place. I think it will be soon Karlovy Vary’s best visited restaurant down-town . They are also capable to serve large groups I think.

“Best choice for beer in Karlovy Vary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Modern style brewery and restaurant. You can observe how the local beer is produced. The beer was really tasty for me. The tradional Czech food tasty with good quality of ingredients (many of them locally prepared) and the portions big. Well worth a visit.

“Karel IV Beer is Amazing. Eat Meat. Avoid the Stews.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

The Karel IV beer is truly superb. The grilled meat looks and smells amazing. We made the mistake of getting the wild boar goulash and the grilled pork stew-ish dish. These stews were clearly microwaved, as the wild boar goulash arrived to the table cold and the pork dish was almost too hot to eat in the way that only microwaved food can be. Both were VERY salty.

We ate in envy of the table across the way that was piled with sections of grilled/braised carcasses of various animals. GO FOR THE GRILL!!! (and the tripe soup)

Interior is inviting, if a bit kitschy. Disappointed to discover the "wooden" tables were actually plastic.
