“Old World Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

The Grandhotel Pupp is the very definition of old world charm. The room we had was newly renovated to a high standard and in keeping with the elegance of the hotel. The one disappointment was, our room was located in what appears to be an annex. If you want to go to the spa, you must go through one reception area, the casino lobby, down a hall visible from the outside, through the first bar, through the breakfast room, through the second bar, through a common room, through the second reception to the lift which takes you to the spa floor. With all that, it still was a lovely experience. The room was fabulous, but no shower in the bath. Internet was free.

We stayed in this hotel during the Film Festival. We were in newer part of the hotel. Room was small and you can see that needs renovate, bathroom was old.My mattress was very bedsore. The breakfast was very good, a lot of kinds of fruits, amazing porridge, eggs salad, a lot of salami, cheeses, good coffee, water with mint, water with cucumber and service was perfect. We visited Bechers bar and was disappointing. the interior is old and dark. I do not know this price is because of the festival but 4beers and 1tequila cost 950CZK. I do not recommend I think that Karlovy Vary has better accommodation.

The new spa does the trick. Fabulous facilities all free for guests. Had well priced massages but even without these luxuries you will massaged by water jets in special massage pools. Soft towel tones, high quality toiletries.

Rooms huge but you must stay in the front rooms. The rear a bit dark.

We stayed 2 nights and loved the town

Look this is a great building, with fantastic history in a great setting. No question. If you are expecting the usual attention to detail and quality you would get in a similarly priced 5 star hotel, forget it. This is definitely not the Four Seasons. Service ranges from good to disastrous and downright comical depending on who attends to you. The quality of the interior furniture and fittings is way off what you would get in other top hotels. It has a cheap and dated feel beyond some of the superficial elements. With its history, setting and recent Casino Royale fame its no surprise that the hotel doesn’t have to try too hard. What you get is a piece of history. The photos which adorn the walls include just about every Hollywood A-lister you could think of. The ball room is absolutely amazing. The rich Czech hockey stars and Russian oligarchs who frequent the place are numerous. The hotel itself has better shopping than many Prague stores! If you stay in Karlovy Vary and are happy to pay the prices, you HAVE to stay here. See it as an experience, ignore some of the staff that are rude or indifferent, forget value for money and take lots of photos! At worst you will have several interesting stories to tell when you get back home.

Room Tip: Apartment at the front, overlooking the river

The best hotel in Karlovy Vary, the most stylish, the most elegant.
Sumptuous, glittering furnishings from earlier, more imperial times. Our room was spacious and well appointed to the style of the imperial era, smallish bathroom though. Bathroom size apart, all you would expect of a hotel of this standing. Very comfortable and quiet.
Glorious decor throughout public areas, lounge, bars ,dining rooms. Modern style Bechers Bar for those want something more up to date.
As you would expect the dining experience was thoroughly excellent, menu selection, ambience, service. Not so pompous as might be feared. Gloriously enjoyable.
Ultra modern and very new spa and pool facility. Extensive, with steam, sauna and massage. Pool accessorised with water spouts. Beware though of very slippery slate flooring throughout the pool/spa areas, bordering on the lethal with bare feet. Important- If you do not have flip flops then ask for a pair. The area is attended with well-trained staffed. Flooring apart, very good. I've marked down the pool/spa for it's flooring issue.
Service throughout outstanding.

Room Tip: Some have balconies. Facing the river/town side seemed to be a good choice. Fourth floor maybe.

Grand Hotel Pupp is an aristocratic experience. From the castle like architecture, to the interior design, the incredible ballroom, or the way the personnel treats you, everything here made me feel like a princess.
