“Amazing hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

This hostel was fantastic! Central location, great views and value for money. It is an old building but that just added to the homely feel. The staff were so friendly and just great to muck around with. I felt very relaxed and comfortable at this hostel. The stairs up to the top room are quite steep so I wouldn't reccommend that room for an elderly person. Also the river pub crawl was fantastic, this just topped off my trip. Thanks for all the fun guys!

Room Tip: Don't stay in the 4 bed dorm because one of the staff member stays in the room next door so will...

Hostel 99 is cheap, but it's not worth the money you save. The conditions of the facilities can only be described as run down and ancient. Bathrooms were not very clean... Black mould all through the showers. There were common room facilities, but they are dark, damp and decrepit. The staff were the worst part of the stay. Particularly the Australian guy who stays and works there with his girlfriend. They stayed in the adjacent room to ours and played music and loud movies well int the early hours of the morning despite knowing there were people right next door. He actually made us really uncomfortable during our stay, we couldn't sleep and we had to listen to his disgusting conversations with his girlfriend. Not at all appropriate. As for the other guy who works there, absolutely useless.

Would not stay there again. Budget more for this town so you don't end up here.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

We travelled to Cesky based solely on the pub crawl rafting hostel 99 offers - it didn't disappoint!

We had booked a private room/private bathroom & we were really pleased with the room. It was actually situated down some stairs behind the hostel and looked to be under somebodys house but the room was spacious and very tidy. A window overlooked the river and we were treated to the sound of the river all night (we had the window open, once closed it blocks it out). The only downside to this room was that wifi couldn't reach us. Apparently they are looking into this though.
We still had access to the kitchen and hostel facilities (incl wifi in common areas).

We had breakfast at deli 99 (yummy waffles) and also enjoyed lunch there as well as restaurant 99.
We found staff to be friendly and happy to suggest restaurants etc in old town.
If you visit in summer I would suggest the rafting pub crawl. It was just a really fun day, meeting like minded people and cheap drinks cruising along the river - sweet!

Hostel was ideally located (approx 15min walk to main bus station and 5mins to Spicak bus station). It only took a few mins to reach castle and main square.

Would definitely recommend to others - great vibe & comfortable accommodations :)

Excellent prices, service and atmosphere at hostel 99. Dzender who works front desk is an awesome guy and is willing to help you with anything you need right away, he wont tell you to come back later. Has comfy beds, nicely equipped kitchen and plasma tv with over 200 movies. They also organise the river rafting pub crawl and have a free beer keg every wednesday afternoon.

My friend who got food poisoning the night before we checked out was in a really bad way but Dzender said she was ok to keep sleeping in her bed right up until we had to leave for our bus at 3pm. he even went to the restaurant next door to get her a drink to help with her stomach and gave it to her for free.

Room Tip: better off getting a dorm room because the private rooms are across the street in another building

Cesky Krumlov is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited so I think my view of the hostel here is a little swayed because I enjoyed the town itself so much. If you remove it from the town and just look at the hostel itself it's pretty standard. The rooms were fine, the beds were really comfy, I enjoyed that they had a lounge room with couches and hundreds of movies to chill on rainy days. The kitchen was great and had what you needed, I also enjoyed the free wi-fi and use to two computers. The staff are a little awkward at times but I think they mean well. It's in the perfect location to see everything! And the restaurant and cafe that are attached are delicious and really great value!! Would recommend and stay here again. Also their Pub Crawl down the river! The only thing to improve on was maintenance and more bathrooms & showers.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that we were staying in a "deluxe" apartment, which is across the road from the hostel section and down a staircase into what seems like a cellar. From what I have read and heard about the hostel part, it seems very different and much nicer. But the room we were in - although large - looked and felt like a cellar or a basement from an old prison, filled with some old, uncomfortable furniture. There was dust and cobwebs absolutely everywhere, and dozens of daddy long-leg spiders. It wasn't the spiders themselves that bothered me, but in my opinion their presence indicated the level of care the hostel shows regarding the cleanliness of their rooms.

There were various nooks and crannies in the walls, like old doors or windows, one larger one we opened and it was filled with polystyrene... There was also a small, dark and empty room that was closed off from the room by a cage door, and it was even dirtier than the rest of the place, and seemed to house bits and bobs like broken appliances. Opposite this there was a locked door - we don't know where this one led to.

Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and others seemed as if they couldn't be bothered. I found it very peculiar that, when we checked out at about 9pm having decided we just couldn't bring ourselves to stay here, the staff didn't even enquire as to why we were leaving. We lost one night's cost for the room, but moved down the road to another hotel and didn't regret it for a second.
