We spent 3 nights up in the Bohemian Switzerland area of the the Czech Republic, renting a car in Prague and doing the easy 1 3/4 hour drive up. We based ourselves in Mezna, a perfect location to explore the park as you could literally get right on the trails from the hotel. The scenery is beautiful and there are very well marked trails to explore. One day we did the 15km hike to Pravcicka Brana and the Divoka a Ticha soutesky. Pravicka Brana is an beautiful natural bridge of sandstone, a well visited sight that was busy with German hikers. Divoka a Ticha Soutesky, the wild and calm coombs, is an amazing river canyon that you hike down part of the way and then take 2 different ferry boats for the remainder, very cool and lots of fun for everyone in your party. Day 2 we did a shorter hike, 11km, to Mala Pravcicka brana, a small sandstone arch and then onto the remains of Castle Saunstejn. The castle remains are accessible from a series of ladders, not for the faint of heart but well worth the view. Both hikes had beautiful scenery, great geology plus several options to stop and buy a tasty lunch (complete with a Czech beer). Our hotel gave us a good map but we had already found the hikes at the cztour.cz website in English.
Pravcicka brana does have an entrance fee at the top, you could certainly hike to a point just below but then you would miss all the great viewpoints way out on the sandstone bluffs.
