“Wonderfully relaxing and beautiful vacation spot.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2010

My fiance and I just returned from several days in St. Thomas. We were originally booked to stay at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef Hotel but after reading the negative reviews on this website we changed our reservations at the very last minute to stay at the Secret Harbour. Boy, was that a great decision!!! Our goal was to have a relaxing vacation in a beautiful location and the Secret Harbour delivered.
We had originally booked a studio oceanfront condo but when we arrived the resort upgraded us, at no additional cost, to a one bedroom oceanfront condo. The unit itself wasn't fancy but it was very clean and comfortable and quiet. Because the resort is located in a little bay the water is very calm and it made for some really fun snorkeling. The resort's beach was very nice and quiet and there are plenty of palm trees to provide plenty of shade if you don't want to be baked in the sun.
The resort's restaurant was also really good and we ate there for each meal at least once during our stay.
The staff was very nice and in fact, everyone we met on the island was incredibly friendly and helpful. We did rent a car which I would highly recommend. It was a little intimidating at first because they drive on the left but we quickly settled in and were thankful for the freedom the rental car provided. We were able to easily go grocery shopping and stock our fridge in the condo. Additionally, we were able to try various restaurants in the area and even took the car ferry one day from Red Hook and visited the island of St. John.
We met many people at the resort who have been staying there every year for many, many years and they say it never disappoints. My fiance and I hope to join their ranks and plan to return many times to stay at the Secret Harbour. Thanks for a wonderful stay Secret Harbour and we will be back!

We have just returned from our fourth year At Secret Harbour, extending our stay each year by a day. We are now up to 11 Days.!! Where to begin? The location is perfect. The Oceanfront condos are just a step away from the beach. Comfortable chairs with umbrellas await you on the beach., . The swimming and snorkling the best . Temperatures always in the 80;s with lots of sun.( but attractive trees on the beach gives one shade if you perfer, Condos are so attractive and well equipped. The view from the patio or deck depending on which floor you are on ( three floors) is gorgeous, especially when the sun goes down or in the evening. We love having coffee, meals, or drinks out there. The staff are all so friendly from the management to housekeeping, to grounds crew. We rarely leave the whole time we are there. But cabs are readily available thru the office with little notice if you want to explore the island or take a day trip to St.John. Would recommend using cabs as roads are very narrow and they drive on the opposite side of the streett than we do in the States. Truly an ideal spot for a vacation of rest and relaxation. Almost forgot, the Beach Bar on the edge of the beach is ideal to get a drink for the beach or having a casual lunch there. Do have a dining room but we prefer to eat on our own deck.

It has been over 25 years now since I stayed here, and I still dream about the place -- back then, it was a bunch of individually owned condo's, which was fine with me - the outside bar on the beach, the cafe, the condo's, the staff -- all very much 5 star -- and I have the year 2007 on this simply because I cant type in 1982, which is when I was there for a week -- wish I was there right now -- you will never regret staying there -- friend of mine just came back last week from 2 weeks there, and he cant stop (or his girl friend) talking about the place -- reminds of Jimmy Buffet days (One Particular Harbor -- check that out on you tube) anyway -- FANTASTIC PLACE

We stayed at this resort for Christmas and New Years and had a wonderful time. We came to dive and happy we picked this report. Diving was convenient with Aqua Dive shop right on the beach. Great diving and dive masters (Diane and Sam - Owners) were tremondous fun and made our trip a memorable one. Dive groups are small, limited to 6 people. We dove some great spots off St. Thomas, St. James and Buck Island. French Cap was the best spot and can only be reached in good weather - 45 minutes out. We were lucky that day.
This resort is not fancy but it is clean and has a nice mid size beach. Restuarant, Blue Moon served good food, again nothing fancy. Beach bar was alot of fun and very busy each night.
This resort is aways from the city so if you plan to leave the resort daily you will want to rent a car. Taxis are a bit expensive.
The most amazing part of our trip was an all day boat trip to the British Virgin Islands. We chartered a small boat and captain (You must ask for John) and we spent 9 hours visiting Tortola, Virgin Gordia, Norman, Peter, Jost Van Dyke, Salt, Ginger and Cooper Islands. We stopped at many of these islands for lunch and drinks and had a blast. We also visited the Baths on Virgin Gordia (Dont miss out seeing the Baths they are beautiful). $600 with tip was well spent. The Dive Shop can set this up for you. Captian John will take you where ever you want. Clearing customs on Jost Van Dyke was simple, you pay $45 for two and wait in Foxys Bar while John heads to the police station - takes 15 minutes. Dont miss out on this!
If you like to golf, Mahogany Run is a very nice course; we played one day. Some of the holes are incredible.

The good:
We had eaten at the Blue Moon before and had checked out the grounds. I was hooked on the setting and the views and wanted to stay at the resort on this trip. I loved that the resort was close to Red Hook but not in a busy area. I totally enjoyed our two night stay after returning from St. John. There is something special about having the beach steps from your door. We stayed in one of the rooms right above the water sports area. It was a hotel room -not a condo. It was as we expected for the price we payed. It was a basic room with a second floor view of the water. The basic bathroom was huge because it was accessible. We actually saw turtles in front of the resort when snorkeling after searching in St. John! Meals were fine in a wonderful atmosphere.

The not so good:
The tub in the bathroom had not been cleaned. We were unsure what else had or hadn't been cleaned. There were clean towels and the shower curtain was pulled in front of the tub but there were obvious hairs and grime in the tub and around the base of the toilet on the floor. Now, this didn't bother me. It was probably just an oversight. We just called and asked that the bath be cleaned. What did bother me was that they chose to wait until after cleaning all other rooms in the resort before coming to clean ours. This meant that it was more important to the management to have the rooms cleaned for still absent in -coming guests than for assigned guests who contacted them about a dirty bathroom. I later called the nice man at the front desk and explained our situation again because I wanted to shower. He said that they were aware of the situation and management would be accompanying the maid to clean the second time. I requested that they come immediately but they waited until dinner time. If it were my resort, I would have found that disturbing..

We were on a bit of a budget, so we wanted to find a place that we could do some of our own cooking. The Secret Harbor was really a great place for us...quite simple decor, but everything was clean and well maintained. We didn't have any problems during our stay. We loved the view we had from our balcony (building 7)...even a rainbow on our first morning there. The beach was perfect for the days that we just wanted to relax. We had a sandwich at the bar one day and then on the last night we had dinner at the Blue Moon...a very good meal.
We definitely recommend Trunk Bay on St. John for a day trip. We also visited The Baths at Virgin Gorda and that was spectacular. Coki beach was beautiful, but the food on the beach wasn't that great.
Just wish taxi prices weren't so outrageous...

My wife and I like small, quiet resorts when we go to the Caribbean (we're from New York City), and Secret Harbour Beach Resort in St. Thomas fit the bill to a T. Small (60 rooms, all suites wiith terraces and ocean views), quiet (on a bay), and with a relaxing overall ambience, it is hard to top this resort. By comparison, there's a Ritz-Carlton about one mile away, and though beautiful, it felt like we were in Las Vegas. Secret Harbour is a place that residents like to frequent, as well as tourists, always a good sign in my book. They also have one of the best restaurants on the island (The Blue Moon Cafe). It's not the newest place I've ever stayed at, but if you want to "get away from it all", this is the spot. Ironically, we returned home just in time for a 15-inch snowstorm, so you'll understand why we have such fond memories.

One other charming thing about this place - there are iguanas all over, one of whom actually begs at one of the outdoor tables!
