“Great location below average cottages”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

The property is situated on a lovely slice of ocean front with crashing waves and chirping birds. The cabins stink of smoke and party's gone by. I laughed when after signing a "will not smoke" form with financial penalties I entered the cabin and gagged from the smell of stale smoke and beer or perhaps urine. There are four beds in the room and 2 pouches of instant coffee. The toilets are teeny tiny and low to the ground. The shampoos and body washes are very luxurious and smell great! The rooms are small and with so many recycle and trash bins its quite cluttered. There are not enough plug ins for cell phone and computer era and the laundry is really insufficient for the volume of guests. The rabbits and squirrels and birds plus the outdoor environment make the stay! If you are looking for a camping experience with city hotel proices this is your place come true!

Hi Jeffrey,
Indeed our cottages are rustic, and most are at least 35 -60 years old with a fireplace/woodstove within the living room - as a result, the smell of woodsmoke is present, and the you are correct the plug-ins and room sizes are not 'standard' for sure. Your comments on other smells is out of character in our accommodations as our Housekeeping team are thorough, however, we have brought this to their attention.
Our apologies for not having equipped the cottage with suficient supplies to meet your needs. It is our practice to ensure the units are ready to receive the number of guests indicated on the reservation, and of course, with a call to the Front Desk, we would have been happy to provide the additional supplies.
Glad you enjoyed being surrounded by our natural environment, many others do as well.
Keep travelling and have a great day!

A week-end with another couple in a 2 bedroom with 2 bath cottage, with full kitchen facilities and a cozy fireplace! While it was raining heavily on Friday, we lit the fire, cooked supper, listened to music, watched some TV, and played some board games. Once the rain stopped, we walked to the main lodge and checked out the bar and lounge. The solo musician was great, not too loud that we couldn't hear each other talk, and the lounge was comfortable. The reception desk staff were efficient and friendly. The next morning we went 'geocaching' on the premises. While we didn't find any caches, we had fun, saw some bunnies and enjoyed the outdoors. Listening to the waves....oh it's music to my ears! Walking the trails, the beach and the golf course was so relaxing, that we were refreshed enough to get back to the hectic work week ahead of us. We played table tennis and pool in the games room in the main lodge. There is a swimming pool and hot tub, but we didn't use them. I loved the fact that the cottages had complimentary WIFI, the wood pile was stacked for our fireplace, we could barbecue and even play golf. It was definitely a home away from home with good friends and lots to do.

Room Tip: We stayed in cottage 609, about a 7 minute walk from the main lodge. Very comfortable.

We spent a weekend at Whitepoint during March break and enjoyed our stay tremendously. The weather was obviously cold at that time of year, but the pool, hot tub and games room made up for not being outside. The faciity is beautiful, clean and staff very friendly. I did find the food overly priced but must say I did enjoy the breakfast buffet immensely. The rabbits were few and far between as well. Only saw 2 the whole time we were there. All in all , we really enjoyed our trip and will definately be back!!

Room Tip: cabins on the beach are beautiful

Hi Leisa O -
Thanks for sharing your feedabck - especially appreacite your comment about March Break as it is a very popular time at White Point. The Bunny population is one that we monitor closely as we know how important seeing them has become with stays at White Point. This past summer their numbers grew significantly! Your comments about our Menu have been shared with our Chef and Dining Room team. We attempt to provide value for the menu provided and are pleased yoiu enjoyed your meals.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the beach!

We travelled to White Point for our third visit. We always enjoy ourselves here and there's lots for our 2 year old to enjoy. It's a beautiful spot. It is a pricey resort but we can normally justify the expense as this is our "go to spot" for our summers that we only have a weekend to do a family vacation.
Our biggest criticism is the food. The buffet is somewhat unimaginative, but it is good food with enough selection to keep everyone happy. The plated meals are another story. While the menu reads nicely and seems to justify the high prices when you get the food that is not the case. There is no care put into what is cooked or how its presented. For breakfast we had ordered poached eggs medium and hard, seems WP staff will only put them out so runny the whites are runny. Omelettes, scrambled eggs, and the croissant sandwich are all made with carton eggs. I realise this is cost effective, but menu prices don't reflect this.
At dinner we had ordered a rare beef tenderloin and a rare striploin, both came to the table medium. The potato of the day was salsa mashed... I like to think the chef was off this day and didn't know about this. The potatoes were lumpy and quite terrible. There was no presentation on the plate either, which doesn't affect taste, but should reflect the prices they have. We eat with our eyes first.
We will return to WP but we will probably head into Liverpool or some of the surrounding beautiful towns of the south shore for our food, especially on days buffet is not offered. The menu in place is nice, but the kitchen staff definitely needs some new direction on how to prepare and put out these meals.

We stayed at White Point for one night during August 2013 whilst on a travelling trip to Nova Scotia. Our room was large, well appointed and fairly close to the main lodge. We liked all the additional facilities in the room - fridge, microwave. We walked the nature trail and along the beautiful beach. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was included in our stay and was excellent with a wide choice and set us up for our visit to Keji park!

Having just completed our annual family get together at Whitepoint we had a joint discussion on the pros and cons, a discussion which covered the likes and dislikes of each of us. Our ages range from nine to eighty years.
The new Main Lodge was of course the main topic and compared to the old it fared very favourably in most respects.
Big, bright and cheerful, beautifully designed and giving a feeling of friendly opulence.
Games room and exercise room vastly improved
Library, a few shelves hidden behind a settee, virtually non existent
The indoor pool is small and shallow and the tiny whirlpool is to be avoided.
Views of the beach and sea, magnificent
The restaurant big and bright but noisy and the buffet quite good but not as big and as varied as the old one.
Other food good except for lunches which were mediocre.
It seems that the winter storms threw far more boulders on to the beach than usual, which has resulted in the beach being difficult to access unless one is very nimble footed or uses the only wooden ramp type access which is very steep in parts. In addition this access is close to the main lodge and a long walk from the furthest Ocean front cottages.
The cottages have been very much improved and are very comfortable.
The rabbit population has diminished considerably, I was told by one of the staff that this was due to the lack of human beings around the place last winter and summer while the main lodge was being rebuilt and this emboldened the local predators (foxes). A pity for the children who want to feed them (the rabbits) but I've no doubt that rabbit’s habits will soon cure that problem.
The main attraction is the Staff, cheerful, helpful and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished cottage

My cousin was married at White Point this past summer. When trying to book rooms for the wedding, the reservation staff was less than helpful and less than friendly. The resort itself is beautiful, as is the beach. Problem is, being the Atlantic ocean, the water is much too cold to enjoy the beach. My son and husband tried swimming with wetsuits on and only lasted a few minutes. Nonetheless, the beach is beautiful and peaceful.
Considering the price paid (not cheap) for everything from rooms to food, I expected a high level of service. What I found was a "seasonal" level of service, from what I assume are people who only work there for the summer. The reception people, although very friendly, were less than professional in talking about guests as they left the front desk, not knowing if the next guest actually new that person or not. Since we were there for a wedding, we knew a lot of people there, and this happened to us (or someone we knew) more than once. The food in the dining room was AMAZING! We ate all our meals there and the price was definitely justified by the taste and quality of the food served. We really loved it. What we didn't love, once again, was the service. The first evening the really sweet waitress (she was really nice) spilled mussel juice from a plate all over the floor and one of the chairs at our table. She never cleaned it up. I ended up wiping it off with napkins before the person sitting there came back and sat in it. The next day, my son and husband went for lunch on the bar terrace. The waitress never cleaned their table. They ate their lunches with the leftovers of the previous guests shoved to one side of the table. We had a lakeside room, which was very clean and nice, but really, they are like nice motel rooms, not high end resort rooms. I'd probably go back, but with lower expectations. THe bonfires and marshmallows, free rabbit food, pool area (although no plastic cup drinks allowed) are all great. I think the resort is way overpriced for the quality and extent of services, but there is little else in the area.

Room Tip: Try to get a lakeside view CLOSE to the lodge; some of the rooms are a good hike away from the lodge...
