Owner description: Far and away the main attraction in Sabang is its Subterranean River, stretching for 8.2 kilometers underground. There is a 250-peso peso entry permit which must be obtained prior to visiting the underground river, and a 40-peso environmental fee payable at the office by Sabang pier. If you decide to go solo, you can buy your permit for the Subterranean River at the office in City Coliseum in Puerto Princesa (a 20-peso tricycle ride from outside the airport). There is a limited number of permits issued per day and the booking office is more interested in selling tickets to tour agencies, so make your reservation at least 2-3 days in advance during holiday seasons.

“Impressive but not the 7th wonder of the natural world.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

As with everything in the Philippines it could be better organised. The caves inside the river are impressive but it all depends on who sits at the front of the boat and hold the light and the quality of your boat driver giving the tour.

They could do a lot more to make it a better experiance.

“A great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The underground river is a great experience and should be undertaken by every visitor to Palawan. The booking process is run by government representatives who make it jump through hoops to arrange a booking.

“Wonderful! Go early though!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

We went early in the morning right around 8:30 am and nobody else was there - perfect!  So, we had the small boat and tour guide (who spoke great English) for ourselves with no other boats or people.  Highly recommended, but go early when it's cooler, or in the evening.  The tour was 45 mins, but we also stopped to get a Mangrove tree trunk worm to eat (if you dare).   We saw monkeys, tree snakes and lizards.  The trees were lovely and tall.  You can get there by the main road and just pass through the guarded gate entrance even though there is a sign that says; 'no trespassing'.  Really remote and beautiful!  We also walked on the nearby small beach (so so quite in the morning!) and you can get to the Zipline from there easily too!  Don't hesitate to help support the preserve, it's only 150 pisos per person!

“Fun guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

The guide was really fun and humorous. Knew very well about the cave and it was very interesting. Only wished that the boat ride is longer.

“A wonder indeed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Beautiful, unique, wildlife abounds. Primitive, but appropriately so. The cave and river are just magnificent. Palawan is the most beautiful of the islands in the Philippines I've seen so far.
