I stayed in The Heritage for two nights in a Junior Family Suite with my wife and two small children. The hotel was very well kept and decorated in an old world luxury style. We found the service at booking, check in, and in the various restaurants to be friendly and helpful. Our suite was a single large room with a partial partition. One section had was a large double ensuite bedroom while the other was a living room with a pull out double bed and another WC. As we had been asked at booking the age of our children (1 & 3), the living area was prepared with the pull out bed made and a cot also provided. On request the hotel also put a small fridge in the room for our baby's milk at no charge. The room had no mini bar.
Each night there is a turn down service with the usual chocolate on the pillow. But our toddler had a pleasant surprise with a glass of milk and cookies for him! We ate at three locations in the hotel. Breakfast was as expected in a five star hotel, if anything the lack of cooked breakfast to order was disappointing, there was only an omelette or smoked mackerel apart from the buffet. Sol Oriens is an Italian restaurant on the hotel grounds. It was child friendly including all pizza and pasta dishes available in children's portions. The food was average with none of or meals particularly good. There was nothing wrong at any stage but nothing exceptional either. Finally, we also ate in the Slieve Bloom Bar in the Hotel. Again it was very child friendly with an extensive children's menu decorated with cartoon characters. Our food was nice with excellent service.
It is also worth noting that the hotel has quite good facilities for children. A games room for younger children including an Xbox. A separate arcade games room for older children. An in house cinema and a swimming pool. There is also a summer kids club for over fours. My wife nada massage in the Spa and was very happy. She is pregnant and felt that this Spa gave the best pregnancy massage she has ever had.
There were very few overtly negative issues I could think of. In our room a few changes had been made in the past and old holes for hanging pictures etc remained. In the shower there was a gap around one pipe into the shower unit. These were aesthetic issues with no cleanliness problem.
Overall, it was an excellent stay in a very nice hotel. However, for a five star hotel excellence means perfection. Therefore, I would only rate it as very good.
