“Great Place To Get Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

I'm finally getting around to writing this review which should have been done six months ago. Across the board Sara and her staff excelled during our visit. My wife and I were there for about five days, we only wish we had stayed longer. Whether it be relaxing or taking day trips the staff was more than helpful in making arrangements. The restaurant was good enough that we never ventured out for dinner. They have a second property inland not far from the main property which is where they have their spa. It was quiet and clean and the animals were great. While we were there we went for massages twice, and both time had the spa to ourselves. Our only complaint while we were there was that we stayed in a traditional bungalow. The walls are paper-thin and the staff starts quite early. Sleeping in was a little difficult. Overall a great place to unwind.

Being our first time to Lombok, we had the hotel arrange a pick up from the airport- which costed 300 000rp. We later realized that taxis are pretty safe in Lombok, Blue Bird taxis use a meter and it's a lot cheaper. We took a taxi on the way back and it cost us about 150 000rp. If you know exactly where you want to go, a taxi is the way to go. The hotel's 'Tours' cost 600 000 which is extremely expensive! Of course, you have the assurance that the driver can speak more english than the taxi drivers.

I booked this hotel thinking that it was on the beach- but realized that it wasn't quite so. It is located directly on the beach, but a very rocky part. The view of the water is great from the pool and restaurant. They have so many Indonesian crafts and asian inspired art around the property that it can be overwhelming. The gardens are really beautiful and well maintained.

We had a regular room-The rooms are quaint and cute, the bathrooms are spacious and under the stars, and the balconeys are comfortable.

Breakfast was very disappointing, few choices and very simple. The restaurant "Ballroom Restaurant" really needs to work on its quality of food- even their local foods need to be improved.

As for the service, the staff are always friendly and accommodating but do not seem to have any authority whatsoever. We accidentally broke a soap bottle and were charged 200 000rp for it upon check out. The staff insisted that we had to pay for it, and even after they "talked to the manager", they still charged us 175 000rp for it. That was quite upsetting as this would be covered by the hotel in any other case.

Overall, we had a good time but some things left a bad taste in our mouth. All in all this hotel has led us to stay away from Boutique hotels in South East Asia again as they are not as flexible regarding rules and quality.

We came to the resort for our honeymoon in November 2011. This time of the year is probably not the best time to visit seeing as this beach resort (and neighbouring ones, as we have found) like to perform renovations, so it is not so peaceful, but I guess the off-season is the best time for them to do it. Also, the weather was transitioning to the rainy hot season, which meant erratic rain periods occurred during the day, which can disrupt outdoor activities. But, we liked it as places were not so crowded and we got to meet the locals on a more personal note. The main drawcards of the resort was the lush lovely manicured gardens, with the balinese-style huts and statues dotting the whole place. All this is next to a beautiful swimming beach, where you can snorkel and see colourful fish at anytime of the day! The staff were polite, friendly and helpful, which made the stay very relaxing and comforting. Furthermore, we were treated to a complimentary massages to use at anytime during our stay. The not so-good-bits include; buffet breakfast can be better...too many fried, battered foods offered, not enough green salads etc.but the fruit array/juices was good. The superior hut that we stayed in, shared walls with other huts-not enough privacy. And eating at the hotel incurred a 22% tax on top of everything. It wasn't as much eating outside of the place. And we also liked to tip whenever we ate because the locals were so nice. The bathroom could be better aerated...mouldy smell detected. And one last thing...even though you can visit the PuriMas Spa resort (sister resort located further inland), I did not like the time that we spent there...it was not very inviting at all...a security guard kept following us around the gardens as though we were criminals and only left us alone when we exited the gates. This place is beautiful inside but has a sinister feel to it. All in all, it was mostly an enjoyable stay (minus the minor not-so good bits) at the PuriMas beach resort and we had a good time getting to know the staff and the locals nearby Senggigi township. I would recommend the Beach resort for anyone looking for a relaxing or romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Go for something higher than a superior room if you want privacy

Eat, pray, love and swim ....our private villa @ Purimas was sublime. From the moment we arrived at Puri Mas our expectations were exceeded. The Muslim wedding festival passing Puri Mas upon our arrival, priceless. Susie our stunning Hotel Manager, is without a doubt the best hotel manager we have ever experienced. The staff @ Puri Mas are warm and friendly, we felt like we were part of the Puri Mas family. Other reviews have complained about the beach sellers in front of the resort. We found them charming and friendly, just lovely young men trying to make some money. We gained kilos from the incredible food and cocktails, make sure you try the special chocolate pudding. Without sounding too vacuous, the hairdryer in our room was the best! As if women need another reason to grab their special man and eat, pray, love and swim @ Puri Mas.

Puri Mas Boutique Beach Resort is one of the most beautiful resorts and locations I have ever been too. Before we arrived, the staff were extremely helpful in providing information and booking fast boat transfers (at a reasonable price), including car transfers from Bali.
The resort is secluded from Senggigi (about 5 mins in a taxi, <11,000rp) and is just beautiful. The decor is traditional and everything is extremely clean. The gardens are magical. The infinity drop pool overlooks the ocean and Bali's MT Agung. The resort hires over 90 staff, and everyone went out of their way to always greet us. Their English was extremely good. It is evident management have high expectations of their staff and train them accordingly. Although we didn't take advantage of it, there is complimentary transfers to Puri Mas Spa and use of it's facilities.

Our Superior room/villa was spotless, with outdoor lounges, tea/coffee and a mini bar. We had an outdoor bathroom, with shower and huge bath tub which was also lovely. Upon our arrival our bed and bath tub was sprinkled with real frangipanis. The staff brought us a welcome pack including hair dyer, sarongs and slippers, and an information pack including resort info, tour info and spa menu. There was free wifi all over the resort, and although sometimes slow, the staff were apologetic. There was a safe in the room, which we were shown how to use. We also requested a DVD player in the room. I was extremely happy with this service for the price we paid.

We were very fortunate to be there on Christmas day, where the owner, Marcel, put on a lovely morning for all staff and guests. He even gave all staff and guests an individual present. Dinner was a buffet with entertainment from Marcel and Lombok dancers.

We ate at the restaurant for buffet breakfast (included), lunch and dinner. Prices were reasonable.
We will definitely be back and recommend this resort to all our family and friends for a relaxing, hassle free and culturally enriched holiday!

Room Tip: We stayed in the cheapest room; a Superior, and it was fantastic. It contained everything we needed...

This was my second stay at Puri Mas, as I was determined to bring my friend along to enjoy the experience, having loved it so much the first time. It absolutely lived up to expectations for both of us, and we will return soon!
Having booked into the same room as last time, we decided on a whim to upgrade to one of the one bedroom villas, with its own pool. This was a good move; we had a private little oasis within this little paradise. Both room types are fine and good value at their price. The restaurant, right on the beach, has great views across to Bali; the chef has been with the hotel for 19 years and punches well above weight, producing a mix of local, Asian and western food, with specials every night. We particularly loved the beef rendang, Indian style butter chicken, and some of the Chinese style soups. The buffet breakfast is also generous. There is live music in the evenings from accomplished local bands.
The design of the older units is quirky - but that's part of the charm. The villas are very modern in style, on a grand scale, wit a huge four poster with nets, and an open air tropical style bathroom with rain shower and a big bath. So take your choice.
We have visited many hotels over the years, especially in Asia, but this in its price range is one of the best value we have experienced anywhere. Incidental expenses - laundry, restaurant, minibar - are extremely good value compared with chain hotels - where we are staying now in Bali, prices are 3-4 times as much. Marcel was a wonderful host, keeping us entertained or leaving us alone when we wanted that. The staff were all helpful and friendly, and tried to teach me some basic . Many have been with the hotel a long time and there is an obvious good feeling about the place which reflects well on Marcel, the manager and the senior staff.

PS, I always look at the negative reviews of places where I stay - as most regular tripadvisor users will know, these are always good for a laugh! No beaches? There is a mile of almost empty beaches you step onto from the hotel terrace. Marcel too chatty? Why didn't you just tell him you wanted some peace! And the guy that complained about outdoor showers really doesn't get the idea of a tropical resort, does he? I also notice that many of the negative reviews end up with a plug for the neighbouring resort. Funny that! The many 'Excellent' reviews tell the real story.

Room Tip: Something for every budget. Our 1 bedroom villa suited us but if you prefer a sea view, try the stu...

My boyfriend and I stayed in the beach resort in November 2011. Our accommodation was a Studio room (approx. $150 per night inc breakfast) 2 night stay. For a cheaper stay but slightly less privacy we could have stayed in a standard room (approx. $50 per night B&B) for a third of the price (obviously a standard room wouldn’t have had the same facilities), the room was great private sun terrace and cold tub spa, inside large bath (looks good but not very comfy, takes ages to fill), shower (good pressure), massive plasma TV, big bed.

During the booking phase the hotel staff member that I was communicating with over email (hugo) was really helpful. We decided to use the hotel car to pick us up from the airport – which I think was a good decision, we ended up being in the car on our own, but it could have been that another couple were in the car with us, which would have made the 1.5 hour journey a little less comfortable, so we were lucky.

It is worth noting that there is a new airport in Lombok - it is now in the South part of Lombok, the problem is even the airlines still call it by the same name as the original airport (only 25 mins away) which Is totally confusing and adds an hour onto your journey to the hotel (not the hotel’s fault obviously!)

Upon arrival the staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely, a bath was partially run with pretty flowers sprinkled in the bath, on the bed – really romantic and lovely.
Generally the resort is pretty and well looked after, and a very relaxing place to be. The snorkelling is fantastic, we didn’t go into Senggigi as it just looked really touristy, so we were quite happy to chill in the resort. The infinity swimming pool was great and we were lucky enough to have a great view of the Volcano on Bali one day due to an over cast day which allowed such view (which doesn’t make sense!)

On a separate trip last year, we travelled to the Gili Islands which was fantastic – a must do
Also- take dinner on the beach by candle light –very romantic.

The negative things I have to say are as follows: These shouldn’t over shadow the tranquillity of the resort but just things that I think could have been improved on (especially since we paid over $300 for a 2 night stay B&B, plus we spent more money in the resort on dinner and drinks etc).
• Welcome Drink – looked good, a drink in a hollowed out Pineapple – more like a welcome sip, not enough

• The shower controls were back to front – so you had to turn it towards blue/ cold for hot water

• Restaurant, great meal on first night, except the chocolate pudding which was clearly cooked by whoever was still left in the kitchen and came out looking like a splodge of melted chocolate / sponge and was over cooked (sent it back).

• Lack of hooks to hang towels on in the bathroom (note to hotel really)

• A totally annoying thing was that when we went to hire snorkelling equipment, we had to wait 2 ½ hours for the hotel to locate the key. The next day we wanted to hire the equipment again, and it turns out they only really have 2 sets, and this was allocated to someone else (luckily we met a nice Australian man and a lovely Dutch couple who shared their equipment with us).

• The 2nd night meal, was not as good. The unfortunate thing was, following dinner we both had tummy upset, the only thing we both ate that was the same was ice cream.. the following 2 days (in Lombok and Bali) were a write off as we were both still poorly.

• Cold tub in private studio terrace was not very clean.

Saying all of this, I would recommend staying at the resort for a couple of nights, it really is lovely, I would say take your own snorkelling equipment, take a good book in case it’s a rainy day, and walk down to the beach and watch the fishermen come in with their catch – really interesting!

Room Tip: Really just based on budget. Private studio good for higher budget. Also more private for couples...
