“Great Family Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

Stayed at the Holiday Resort April 2012 for 12 nights. We had a ocean facing interconnecting room with our two children aged 10 and 6. Hotel was 6km from Sengiggi but this was no problem at all as the bluebird taxis were only £1 each way and there was plenty of choice of restaurants there. We mainly ate in the hotel at lunchtime the food was absolutely fine, roughly about £4.00 a head which is expensive for Lombok but was worth it when you are relaxing by the pool in a beautiful tropical garden. We also went for lunch next door about five times at the Windy Cottages where we had great indonesian food for about £2 per head. They had really good lombok pancakes which the children loved. The staff at both Windy Cottages and Holiday resort were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has childrens horseriding, ping pong, giant chess and a kids club although it wasn't used much as there weren't very many children around. The only problem we had was that people only stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights and so our children didn't really get the chance to make friends.

Room Tip: Book the ocean facing rooms as you are near everything, Our rooms were very quiet and comfortable.

This was our 3rd stay at the resort ... Highly recommend the Family Apartments (over the road from main resort - with security guys to help you cross the road). Great living area in the apartment, 2 massive bedrooms - each with their own bathroom. Large pool area & beach at back of the resort. Food choices limited ... But check out Qunci or Jeeva Klui right nearby or De Quake or Square in Sengiggi (20,000 IDR taxi trek away) for better food choices in lovely settings. Our 2 boys (4 & 7) love it - make use of the kiddie club during the day & reception can organise babysitters for after 6pm (usually staff from the resort ... 55,000 IDR p/hr for babysitting).

We travelled as a family and usually stay at about three star level where we are quite happy as we dont want to spend money on unnecessary luxury. We splashed out a bit on our visit to Lombok and were happy we did. The Holiday Resort is great value for the price, I guess its four star rooms in a five star setting. The staff are friendly and helpful, the prices at the bars and restaurants are fair, and the food at the poolside restaurant is some of the best i've ever had anywhere.

Room Tip: Definitely pay a little bit more and get a room on the ocean side of the road

I stayed here with my students and colleagues whilst we took part in field research on Lombok. We chose the place for its location and price - both of which were excellent (for us).
We had a driver who took us around the island during the day, but the taxis' are cheap, and as the resort is owned by the Bluebird Taxi company, they are the ones to choose (as ever in Indonesia).
Room - we all had the two bedroom apartments - these are across the road from the main resort - not a problem, the security always stopped the traffic so you could cross - when I say traffic, I mean the odd scooter and car. These rooms have a kitchen and a living area, so you could cook if you wished - though with food being so cheap on the island, why would you! Yes, I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are a bit tired - but what are you doing inside??! It's the tropics, sun and sea, pool and cocktails.
The grounds are very well maintained and a pleasure to walkthrough.
Breakfast, ok - my colleagues liked it, I have had better, but it did the job.
Pool - cloudy water, though treated every night - I am supposing the cloudiness is the chemicals - I didn't go in.
Sea-front beach right there - some hawkers, but they leave you alone if you politely refuse.
Staff are excellent - they are some of the friendliest staff I have encountered.
We will be heading back to Lombok in November (possibly July too) to continue our work there - this is a place we will consider stopping at again.

We went for a short stay (4 days). I can say that i fully recharged my batteries.
Great hospitality, everything clean, and the food was also above the average of the usual Indonesian Resorts.
We stayed in a "ocean view bungalow" that was not really ocean view... but we had in front a great garden, very well maintained and over that the beach: nice, small, but nothing spectacular.
I'm suggesting that place for couples that doesn't want to spend their holidays in crowded places or with huge nightlife.
If you want to regenerate yourself, nothing better than that: great poolside, possibility to have tours on GILI Islands (snorkeling, diving...) but one for all... great QUITE place!

Holiday resort is a beautiful hotel, with gorgeous gardens and great pools. The beach was very nice, quite, and calm. But the rooms looks old and are in need of some work. My complaint about the rooms was the air conditioner didn't work very well, TV was old style and don't have a good quality picture. The choices for breakfast also limited. But the good side is the staff near the pool was very friendly and helpful.

Also, the location is a bit far from the center of Sengigi beach (there's no restaurants or nightlife surround the hotel). So, you have to use taxi or rent a car if you want to have meal outside the hotel.

Booked this side trip from our usual two weeks in Bali with some reservations about it being a muslem rather than a hindu population but all our preconceived ideas evaporated while we were there. Chose this hotel based on recommendations on TA and were not dissappointed. The pool is large and very clean, the rooms were well spaced and ours had an indoor/outdoor shower all faced with stone. The maids who looked after the rooms were very creative and each day we were pleasantly surprised with a different design of franjipani and towels on our bed. (we left a nice tip when we had to go) I enjoyed the breakfasts except that the coffee was not to my taste as it was somehow different to the bali coffees I like so much. Following many recommendations to dive on the Gili's we took a day trip with six other guests. Mataram is close and the local village is only a short taxi ride where good restaurants and fabulous art and craft stores are in abundance. The wood carvings and paintings are very different from Bali and all of high quality. We did spend a little too much in them. Local public transport in Mataram is by horse drawn carts
We would recommend that you look at Lombok as a very attractive alternative to the hustle and bustle of Bali. There's lots to see all over the island and everything is a pleasant dat trip away. I am writing this late so my selected travel dates are not on the list but we were there in November 2009.

Room Tip: Our driver spoke very good english and had a quirky sense of humour - a good combination to look for...
