“Awesome mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Didn't expect much from a ski resort on Vancouver Island, but was very impressed with the quantity and quality of runs. Great conditions, tons of snow. Reasonably priced. Will be going again for sure.

“Is Mount Washington Really Worth the Trip?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We were going to be in Vancouver for Christmas and had some extra time so we decided to make the trip to Mount Washington. First the good. The skiing was fantastic and the conditions were amazing. We had close to 500 cm of base and really liked the hill. We had two skiers and two boarders and we were all happy. The only complaint was from my son about the terrain park as the features were limited. However, there is lots of variety and a good mix of runs. The lineups were always short.
On the other side, the accomodations were pretty spartan. We felt as if we were in a ski resort from the 70's. We rented a two bedroon condo in the village. The condo was very basic and was very poorly equipped. The owner's definately cheaped out on the fixtures. There was no fireplace and no hot-tub. We had to hire someone to bring our food and equipment to the condo since cars were not allowed in the village. We also felt as if we had to walk everywhere. Despite what you read, there is no ski-in or ski-out. You walk....
There was one restaurant which was adequate. It was basic pub food and it served its purpose. At this resort, you definately need to bring in your own food. There is one coffee place, but it is small and the service is poor.
The Road: You need to drive 18 kms. up Strathcona Parkway to the resort. The road was well maintained, but be careful as it could be tricky. I don't think you need chains, but an SUV with 4WD would be helpful.
So, if you are in the area I would suggest a visit. If you are travelling from Ontario, I would take a pass as the extra effort to get there probably is not worth it. Other resorts such as Sun Peaks, Big White, etc. are much better equipped for the total vacation package.

“Nordic Lodge & Paradise Ridge Condo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Our vacation with the extended family was greatly enhanced by the accommodating, cheerful staff at the Nordic Lodge on Mount Washington, BC. The condo #214 served our needs (2 seniors, two family groups including parents with teenage and toddler sons) for our three night stay. The weather was variable but wonderful. The skiing and night snowshoeing was outstanding. Watch for snow sliding off the condo roof - one dump by the lobby entrance hit and damaged our truck. Fortunately nobody was there when it slid off the roof!

“Deer Lodge - great family stay; slopeside view is amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We had a wonderful 4-night stay over Christmas. The 2 BR condos are large, with two full bathrooms and a decent-sized kitchen. Because the units are owned individually, there are differences in the units. 305 is very well-equipped and shows that the owners take a lot of pride in their unit, but 306 was more spartan. You should also know that the 1-BR units have only a coffee-maker, microwave and mini-fridge. On the plus side, all the rooms have in-suite laundry.

The location is spectacular, and the view of the slopes is amazing.

However there are a lot of things that reduce Deer Lodge to a 3-star rating at best.
You should know, especially if you have young kids, that the bright lights on the slopes are on until at least 10:30 each night, and the pitiful blinds in the rooms don't do anything to block out the light. I don't know why they wouldn't have invested in blackout blinds or thick curtains... And of course there is some noise from the grooming equipment early in the morning, but that is to be expected. Poor sleepers may be more comfortable on the other side of the building.

The beds are only doubles and the mattresses are very uncomfortable.

The underground parking is one of the tightest and most ridiculous I have ever seen. Also you are not allowed to bring skis or boards into your room, but the "lockers" in the parkade are open at the top so anyone could reach in and steal your equipment.

Housekeeping does not come during your stay, unless you pay extra.

Apparently there is a gym facility at the Raven Lodge, but it is so far away (you have to drive), that we didn't go.

There was an incredible amount of snow, which was wonderful, but you have to pay for absolutely everything, including x-country skiing and snowshoeing. I couldn't believe how expensive everything was. The Ozone tubing is outrageously expensive and not worth it, especially considering you spend much of the 2-hour time in the lineup (often more than 20 min. wait).

All in all we had a wonderful trip and would definitely go back, but I hope that the owners and management make some improvements. Dark curtains should be first on the list.

“Mother - Daughter Evening Snowshoe and Fondue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

My daughter and her family gave me snowshoes for an early Christmas gift and she took me to Mt. Washington on Dec. 22 for the snowshoe and fondue event. We had a wonderful time. The guide was entertaining, informative and very helpful - even though he made me lead the group into uncharted territory for a part of the trek! It all turned out to be great fun and he did drill us on safe snowshoeing procedures first. The winter night sky and the gently falling snow made for a magical hour of snowshoeing before we returned to the lodge for a lovely 3-course fondue with fellow adventurers. I would highly recommend this event as a great way to experience an evening in Mt. Washington's winter wonderland with family and friends.
