We (me and my girlfriend) stayed here for 5 nights at the end of May. We were greeted by an overcrowded ugly parking lot that was full of parked cars, so many that we thought we were entering a Private parking lot. The cab driver insisted that this was the place, we had no idea, because there are no visible signs you have reached your destination. The front desk staff is courteous and polite (especially Ryan). The lounge and bar that are in the rear of this boutique hotel is the true highlight of this hotel, and the access to the beach is fantastic! Now, with that said, here are the reasons this hotel is stagnated in their potential to be the true star hotel on the Isla verde avenue. The furniture that they advertise on their website is overrated and only because it has not been well kept, and they allow beach goers from other hotels and possibly just regular beach people to use it!!! its absurd, unfair, and it turns you off from wanting to relax on it. They have to find a way to upgrade this furniture then make sure that only their hotel and restaurant guests have access to them. when come to their rooms, the beds are comfortable, and you are better off with a room on the second floor, because this hotel is well known for their parties and events at their restaurant, and it can get pretty loud! When it comes to cleanliness, you should not have to request that the floor be swept, the garbage dumped, or the sheets be changed on a daily basis! That is absurd, and terrible management!!!!! I am not a big fan of resorts, but i have stayed at enough boutique hotels to tell you that this hotel could be full every night, and could be the talk of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. At the end of the day, you feel like WOW......FANTASTIC BEACH, GREAT BAR, GREAT LOCATION, but why is the service so below the simple standards that any hotel should provide?? My advice to the Owner..... watch a few episodes of "Hotel Impossible" on the Travel Channel, and you would and could have a Great Boutique Hotel, then the Lounge/Bar would be a nice plus, instead of what's probably keeping you going!! All-in-all i enjoyed my stay, but i had to ignore too many details, and just take in the weather and the beach!

Room Tip: stay on the top floor.

Location is amazing. You can wake up, walk down the stairs and jump into the ocean. Great beach. Almost no people, because the hotel is between apartment buildings. Also, very nice and friendly bartenders at the bar.

Everything else was bad. Sorry, but it was. The mattresses in the room are too short. My feet were hanging off, and I'm 5'6". The floors were never cleaned; there was always sand. The room is like a dungeon - dark and musty. We had hot water only one day out of 5. We did tell the management, but nothing was ever done. The sink leaked all the time. Also told the management, but nothing.

The windows aren't glass. Just heavy plastic with shutters. It may be for storm purposes, but then, why aren't other, fancier, resorts and hotels doing that?

The restaurant doesn't open until Wednesday. And nothing around that's worthwhile. Thankfully, we had a car and could easily make do the 15 min drive to old San Juan. They charge for parking per night on a lot that's full of holes and dirt puddles. Every single day, there was some sort of construction, so the noise was constant.

And don't even get me started on the loud music! I'm all for a nice scene, a great bar and nice house music. But this is just crazy. Everything is out in the open. Absolutely now way you can get any sleep while the music is playing until 2am. The louder the music, the louder that people want to be. They have to warn people about this. The only thing that saved us was the fact that we came on a Monday and left on a Friday. So we only had to deal with it on Thursday night.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway, only reason you might like this place is if you go monday through thursday. Otherwise, don't waste your time. Although, again, being ocean front always wins.

Thank you for your review of our property, LS_Boston2012, we appreciate your comment and we are happy the location and bartenders were to your liking. Our bartenders love to be facing the the best view in the Caribbean and genuinely enjoy tending on their customers.

When you state the mattress in the room you stayed at was too short for you, who are 5'6" is very strange, since all our full beds are the standard 75" inches in length.

Our property was built in the early 1970 and the metal windows were the standard here in Puerto Rico since they protect during hurricane season. We have plastic screens on them to the Air conditioning from escaping the room. The windows are closed because there is no view to the sides of the building.

The sand on the floors is inevitable since we are right on the beach and just walking out on the property you get sand on your shoes which is then dragged to the rooms.

The parking charge is the norm in just about any hotel in the world. Specially in places where street parking is very limited like it is here in Isla Verde. If the parking charge is not in the customer's budget., street parking is always an option, though limited is not impossible to find.

Our restaurant is now open from Tuesdays to Sundays, we are sorry there were no restaurants to suit your palate in the area. I believe there are approximately 40 withing walking distance.

Café La Plage our hotel's restaurant and bar, is a well known night spot with the local public and we are doing our best to keep the noise levels down on weekends as much as possible.
You are absolutely right, Monday though Thursdays are the quieter days in our property.

Thank you again for your input, we really appreciate your critique!

We stayed here for 3 nights, when we arrived, we were pretty frightened at how our stay might end, the hotel is set back behind larger buildings and a dirty parking lot. The view to the beach is amazing from the restaurant which is located at the hotel. We stayed in room number 6 which we do not recommend it is right behind the bar at the restaurant and the window is located in the area where it seems like the staff may hide to take their breaks and hang out and chat. The bar is very loud especially on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night ( obviously). Our toilet was broken the whole time we stayed there and we couldn't be moved to another room because they had none available...supposedly! We did not eat at the restaurant as it did not look like it was anything special, especially when we woke up for their continental breakfast on Friday morning and had mold in our jam, black birds trying to rip open bags of pastries, and stale bagels. We are not rich by any means and it does not take much to make us happy, when I say us, it was just my boyfriend and I, but this place was disgusting. We actually felt really dirty the whole time there. Every night we did go out to the beach and took long walks down the shore line, we also got attacked by sand fleas that live in their beach furniture after trying to enjoy at least one night of our stay. It is not worth the money to stay at this place, although the location of the hotel right on the beach is very attractive, the service stinks and the place is just plain old ghetto. If you do decide to try it out I would recommend you ask not to be booked in room 6 and also just stay for one night, more than one night will probably make you sick.

Room Tip: Don't let them book you in room 6, it is right behind the bar and very loud!!!!

We are very sorry our property was not up to your expectations.

Somehow while looking for reported problems with room 6 in the past few weekend I did not find any reports regarding the rooms toilet being out of order for three days. That is particularly strange, since that type of problem is high priority with our maintenance staff and the front desk immediately raises the flag to solve it asap.

We can understand that you might think there were fleas outside on the beach, if this was your fist trip to the tropics, these little bugs are actually gnats and mosquitoes which are part of the tropical environment. Sorry that prevented your enjoyment of the gorgeous sunsets and the beach. We provide mosquitoes repellent spray upon request at the front desk.

Your feedback is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Just arrived from an Idyllic 4 day weekend in PR. It was my first visit. Read all kinds of reviews and chose oyster.com to trust on my choice for this property. I was not disappointed! The fotos of the property are an accurate, non photo shopped view of every angle. It is a casual, understated beachfront hotel with a gorgeous beach, great food at the open restaurant Cafe la plage and incredible service. I cant say enough about the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. Mojitos on the beach? no problem! They all gave me tips on where to go and how to avoid the tourist traps - as a first timer, i felt as i was visiting old family friends! Im glad I did not pay attention to the silly complaints on this site. I suppose some people prefer the cookie cutter big hotels so if you are looking for an authentic, charming little Gem - this is it! Yeah some of the rooms were small so i moved to a larger room only because it was available and they graciously allowed the change but the smaller rooms were very nice and very clean. My only complaint was that my 4 days went by too soon...The manager, Richard was a true gentleman as well as Jenny at the bar and felix our waiter. This is my new weekned get away!

Room Tip: Right side rooms are quieter. They have no swimming pool but Howard Johnson allows guests to use th...

The rooms where newly renovated. We had a room in the back (against the parking). Even though the interior was brand new and the colors were light, the room was dark and felt damp. Also, the rooms weren't very sound proof, so the fact that staff was hanging outside the room at night and early morning made it hard to get a good nights sleep. These are things that could easily be fixed with better windows and lighing in the rooms.

The beach setup was very nice. There is and open bar and a restaurant facing the beach. As far as I could see this was the only beach bar in the area. At least the only one not behind fences and barbed wire. They had a lot of sunbeds and a variety of outdoor furniture on the beach. The staff was very friendly and service minded. It's also worth mentioning that the food was excelent. The atmosphere around the bar and the beach was nice and relaxed. A lot of locals seemed to prefer this area for a day out.

If you are going to stay a few days at Isla Verde, and enjoy to relax on a beach, I would easily recommend this hotel over other places in the area. But, I thinks it's worth spending a few dollars more for a beach fronting rom on the upper level.

Room Tip: Choose room on upper floor, or ask for a room with a view

In spite of gusting winds and rain showers, the staff at the hotel from Sabrina, Miguel and all other staff could not have been more accommodating to us within a group of 30.

The chef, Manny, served me a red snapper fish that was so beautifully shaped, it practically sand happy birthday to me.

A group as big as ours is usually complicated to best serve everyone, yet everyone at this hotel and Cafe la Plage did an amazing job ensuring we had a memorable dinner party.

If you have patience and believe things will work out, they usually do :)

Room Tip: There is no pool - it is however beach front beauty.
