“Excellent food”

We liked everything we tried at Zest. A very creative chef with high quality food. The atmosphere was fun and the staff were very helpful with their suggestions.

“Enjoyable dinner at Zest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Stayed at the Water Beach Club for 2 nights in February and while we usually avoid hotel restaurants, Zest looked so inviting we decided to make a reservation for our last night. It didn't disappoint. It has a very cool vibe and so many items on the menu sounded delicious I knew we would have a difficult time deciding what to order. We had made a reservation with the concierge that morning and requested the table for 2 by the window as it looked a little more private but when we arrived it was taken. We chose another table, which was fine, and 2 glasses of champagne arrived immediately as an apology. We enjoyed everything we ordered, two appetizers, two entries and shared dessert. The amuse bouche was a nice addition and yummy. But the popcorn soup stands out for me - it was so unusual and absolutely delicious! I wanted more. The donuts were a perfect ending to our enjoyable meal. All of the plates were beautifully arranged. The service was great and Chef Raul actually came to our table to see if all was well. A wonderful ending to our Puerto Rican vacation.

“Miami Beach in San Juan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Ambience was very club like, South Beach modern. Food was very well presented and for the most part excellently prepared...a couple of misses, notably the salmon with a strange concoction of sauce and vegetables. Service was very friendly but wait staff needs more seasoning and training...simple things like clearing the table of empty gasses and plates to make the eating experience more comfortable would make a big difference. But their eagerness to please goes a long way to making an enjoyable evening. This is not a place for young children but my teenage kids thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We ate here three times while staying at the resort.

The first was dinner, and we went with a few appetizers. Some were good, while others were ok. We weren't disappointed with that meal, but the price didn't quite match the taste.

The second was breakfast, and that was simple, but decent. Very average.

The third was dinner again, and we decided to try the entrees. The red snapper was not cooked well - ended up a bit soggy. The chicken and couscous was exceptionally salty. When this was brought to the attention of the staff, they didn't seem to care. They just wanted to hustle us through dessert and get us out. The waitress basically disappeared after taking our original order. The tables next to us didn't seem to enjoy their meals either - with plates sent back to the kitchen. I could tell the ingredients were fresh, but the chef did not seem to have a clue.

For being well-rated, i'm shocked - we gave them a few tries and they didn't wow at all.
