My fiance and I are American expats living in the caribbean. We are both in the hotel industry and it is rare that we get time off to spend together. At the last minute we decided to go on a weekend getaway to Puerto Rico to relax and have some fun.
We found the Coqui Inn online and decided to book at the last minute because the rates were affordable and we liked the fact that it was close to the beach and laid back nightlife activities.
When we arrived we realized that we had made a huge mistake. To be honest we are the last ones to complain as we know what it is like to be on the other side of the service industry.
Our taxi dropped us off at the makeshift lobby as the other was under construction. At check in we were given 2 worn out bath towels and had to pay about $.25 each for shampoo, body wash, mouthwash etc. After getting our keys we had to walk about a block in the dark to the actual rooms.
Our room was very dated and the mattress very hard. There was dirt and hair all over the bathroom and it looked like the room had not been cleaned properly in awhile. I went to charge my phone only to discover that the outlets were not working. I then had to unplug the wall air conditioner in order to plug in my charger. There was no room phone and the hotels cable and internet was not working and there was no hot water.
We left to go for dinner and drinks. When we returned at about 3 am we still had no hot water and the cable and internet were still not working. We then we back to the front desk and asked to move rooms. Lets just say that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
We walked into our new room to discover that the bad had not been made, the comforter drenched due to the leaky fridge, and a dirty diaper in the trash! Talk about disgusting. At this point we were tired and did not want to go through the hassle of moving our things again.
Although the hotel was not busy it was very loud in the evening as there were children throwing tantrums in the room next door.
We were aware that check out was at noon on our last day but we were a bit slow moving as we had not slept well. We were shocked when someone banged on our door promptly at noon informing us that we needed to check out. I felt that this was extremely unprofessional and left an even more sour taste in our mouths as a last impression.
Our advice is to spend a little extra money and stay somewhere more comfortable. We will definitely not be back.
