“The worst hotel I have been too in PR”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

My husband and I only spent 1 night in this hotel but it was enough. I had visited this hotel years before and I use to love it because it was always very clean and it was cheap. I went a few months ago and was greatly dissapointed.

The first room we got was small and smelled badly (dirty carpet smell), the mattress literally had a wodden board under it so, imagine how hard it was, we asked to be changed and the guy in the front desk told us that all the beds where just as uncomfartable but we can try another room. The other room was just as smelly but we took it because it was a little bigger. The room was infested with roaches, I mean roaches EVERYWHERE!! The bathtub was in horrible conditions full of hairs, the head board on our bed fell in the middle of the night almost died of a heart attack, when that head board fell OMG the wall was full of gum, roaches, spiders and ants. The T.V was extremely small and very far away from the bed. This was by far the worst hotel I have been too! We paid $104.00 for that night and it was the worst.

If you're not planning on spending any time in your hotel room, and you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, this would be the place to stay in San Juan. We simply needed somewhere to rest up after a long trip to PR before heading out to our rental on the west coast of the island, and the Coqui Inn fit the bill. The room we had was not great--dark and very cramped--but I have to say, we all slept incredibly well. The lobby is kind of pleasant (if you're open to enjoying a more authentic local experience) and it would definitely be the place to hang out if you had to spend time there. We got in late, went right to bed, and then got up the next morning and caught breakfast at the great bakery around the corner before taking off. I was fine with the rather rustic accommodations given that we weren't there very long, and the price was right.

I just recently stayed at this hotel 11/09/2012. This place is a dump. Wifi only work in the lobby and barely works there. The room was poorly lit and long undue for a renovation. Actually the entire building needs a makeover. The flatscreen tv was about 13", however; it did have many many cable channels. One set of towels were provided (brown in color) and surprisingly soft. There was no desk, no phone, no clock in the room. Light fixture had only 2 out of 4 light bulbs in it. The sheets on the beds were old and kept coming undone. The only positive thing I can say about this place is since it is on a residential street, there is plenty of parking in the quiet neighboorhood and there was plenty of vacancies- surprised? NO! LOL

Coqui Inn was an amazing deal in an area where prices are through the roof. With that said, be prepared when you stay here. The rooms are tiny with very few amenities. There are tons of roaches in the bathroom at night, some small and large, others big and creepy. There was no hot water and no soap, shampoo, wash clothes or anything of that nature is provided. The attached restaurant was closed, one of the two pools was shut down. No ice machines worked. Now, all that sounds terrible, but I would totally stay there again. The people were friendly, the beach is only a quick walk across the overpass. It is a charming little hotel and each night I would sit outside on the porch swing and listen to the coquis sing. It was quiet and very nice. If you're an American used to nice hotel amenities, this place is not for you. If you want cheap and enjoy an adventure, then try it out. It was very clean!!

Excuse the haters and whiners who have reviewed this hotel.
If you consider yourself royalty - no you do not want to stay here.
Close to Airport, close to Carolina Beach. Good, helpful staff. Kinda neat layout of rooms, an open patio with the rooms secured in a neat, courtyard like setting.
We got in at 11 pm after a flight from JFK. It cost $20 to get here by cab.
We paid $68. What are they asking for that hotel that is at the San Juan Airport? Compare the two. They have several very nice swimming pools, a well equipped gym, and some food and drinks for sale. There is an outstanding, very popular local bakery/cafe 3 blocks away that we walked to for breakfast. We then took the pedestrian bridge over the highway to Carolina Beach which sits behind some high rises (This was a bout a ten minute walk). What a wonderful beach! If we come to San Juan again - we will be staying here at the Coqui Inn.

Yikes!
We stayed at this fleahole for one night before moving to our long stay accomodation because it was close to the airport and we were arriving extremely late. We knew it wasnt going to be flash but did not anticipate the health hazard it actually was. Initially we barricaded ourselves in the room with our luggage piled up at the door beacuse we did not feel safe, but once the other guests arrived (a large family of cucaracha) we placed our bags on the beds and slept in our suitcases. Phone didnt work. TV had picture but no sound. Thought we would contract legionnaires disease from the shonky air conditioner, which did little more than circulate dust in a stinky humid room. The clothes cupboard and safe were in the bathroom and rotted and nearly falling off the wall. Walls were painted a nauseous spectrum of dirty fluorescent limes and yellows, enough to make you sea sick. We had to take sleeping tablets to get through the night and escaped at first light! I do not understand the references in other reviews to "getting what you pay for". I've travelled extensively and you can get far better value than this anywhere in the world. Close to $100 a night including taxes for a room resembling a third world prison cell. Go to jail, it's cheaper, and probably safer and more hygienic.

I have stayed at the coqui inn more than 20 times. The staff is great and always remembers me. I even forgot an envelope with 1100 dollars in my room at checkout and was returned ALL the money. Very honest people. I always meet great people there. Never had a problem.
