“reasonable beachfront property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

My wife, son (15) and I stayed at this resort from Dec. 20-26, 2013. This was a business/ pleasure trip and we had a car rental. We got a pretty good deal for our room (AAA brkst rate)for the time of year and used our points for a free night. This hotel as mentioned is very close to the airport in fact you can see it from the runway. Yes, you will hear the noise of the jets but you can get used to it. However, you are on a great stretch of beach, the same beach that the Ritz Carlton next door is on. Check in was easy as there was no line and we got an upgraded room thanks to the manager H. Newman who was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is 12 stories and situated on a nice bay with the beach/ocean on the north side. There are basically 3 types of rooms east and west side with partial ocean view and full frontal facing the ocean. The deluxe ocean view are the east side rooms overlooking the pool area and ocean and not obstructed by buildings. The west side rooms overlook an apartment building and partial ocean. All rooms have good sized balconies overlooking ocean. East side rooms also overlook the airport runway...great for aviation enthusiasts. Rooms have comfortable beds, fridge. flat screen, small desk area and washrooms with tub and shower. Bottled water is free and free wifi. Pool area is nicely laid out with swimup bar, palms and lots of beach chairs. There is also a hot tub, kiddie pool and fitness room. Smokers need only step over to the beach area to light up where there are benches and ashtrays. The beach area looks great but beware the sand fleas or no-seeums. I have been to beaches across the caribbean and have never been bitten as bad as I was here. However, it may depend on the person as my son spent most of his time on the beach and never really got the bites that I did. The hotel beach staff are welcoming and helpful and will set you up with a chair and an umbrella. There are warnings of the sand fleas and spray is available at the hotel. There is no gift shop but the towel stand has sprays and lotions to buy. There is an outdoor grill by the pool, two restaurants and a snack/coffee bar. The main restaurant (Salsa) has breakfast, and dinner. Prices are fairly average for a resort with the brkfst buffet being $15 to $20. Fairly decent brkfst buffet with omelet station and waffles. The Sirena restaurant is more formal, outside and open for dinner. Entrees start in the mid $20s to $30s. There is also an outside bar that serves bar food. The coffee bar serves small food items (ie pizza) and has an expresso bar with great lattes. However, regular coffee at the restos wasn't bad...no real reason to do a starbucks run. Drinks are available by the pool, outside bar and at the disco. Prices are around $9-$10 for a pina colada. The disco has live entertainment at night and gets quite busy as many locals frequent the place. Good happy hour drinks $5-$6 at the disco. There is also a casino which has penny slots and $5 blackjack. Parking is $15.00 a day with in and out priviledges. It was nice renting a car as we could tour around San Juan and travelled out to the rainforest. Roads are in good shape with good highway system. If you don't have a car there are shops and restos with in walking distance but they are limited. The beach town close by has a Dennys, Walgreens, Ruth Chris and Outback Steakhouse. Excursions: go into Old San Juan beautiful old world town with narrow cobblestone streets, many restaurants and shops. This area is quite touristy as it is a major cruise stop. Ate at the Barrachina resto birth of the pina colada and had a great mifungo. There is the old fort in this part of town as well if you are into that type of thing. Missed out on the Bacardi tour. For shopping there are many american outlets both in the old city and in the suburbs including a huge mall called the Plaza of the Americans which has almost every american store you can think of as well as a Cheesecake Factory and P. F. Changs. We did drive out to the El Yunque rainforest which was nice but mostly for hiking as there is little wildlife to spot except birds. Although, we are birders and had a hard time spotting anything. Warning the hike to the waterfall is strenuous and underwhelming. There is a ranger station with info and gift shop. Did not have time to explore the rest of the island which was regrettable. I did check out the Ritz and was not that impressed as the pool area wasn't any better and many of the rooms do not have balconies.

Room Tip: east side rooms higher up with view of pool area and ocean.

After my flight was canceled due to snow, I booked my extra night here at the Marriott Courtyard. I was pleasantly surprised of all this resort has to offer. The beach is fabulous and a perfectly safe place to take a walk in either direction. The pools were great and there are plenty of chairs to go around. The only drawback was that food and drink service on the beach is terribly slow.
There are plenty of dining options. And a casino as well.
This hotel sits between the beach and the runway of the airport. Which I found to be very cool. The noise is not a problem.
The staff here are very friendly and efficient.
The rooms are a bit dated but sufficient. I had a fabulous meal at their outdoor restaurant overlooking the beach. The Sea bass was delicious. I slept peacefully in a very clean oceanfront room. I took advantage of their new gym which provided all of your needs for a good workout.
If you're on a budget and want to get
the most out of a hotel/casino on a beach in Puerto Rico, I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Always ask for an oceanfront.

Rooms outdated & hear planes taking off & landing. All would have been forgiven for the beach access & haywire price until my empty(thankfully) Coach purse & Coach checkbook wallet were stolen from my suitcase. It didn't fit in the safe provided in the room & was wrong it would be safe in suitcase.

hotel with great service. Front desk was very helping and caring. We were given a free upgrade - oceanfront room. I had called the hotel few days before with my request for better room option and they exceeded my expectations. King bed on 10th floor .wonderful sea view with clean room.
Overall experience was great.
only issue was the restaurants - we tried buffet breakfast and there were hardly options. We regretted that we dint check the options before taking buffet options. overall food wasnt great.
also this is a bit secluded location, away from condado area so nothing much to do. you will need a cab everytim to get out (atleast 17$ one way to town). airport is 13$ one way.

overall good. if one wants to enjoy beach and stay in hotel, this is an option.

Room Tip: make a request for room accommodation ahead of time

Our stay was good, the staff was great but the managment of billing department was untrained and in denial about mistakes made that were clearly their problem but blamed eveyone else instead. Watch the bill you recieve closely for double billing.

Just got back from staying last week. Must say, this resort was perfect in every way.

Location was spot-on. Where else can you land and then be sipping a drink poolside within 30 minutes? Cab fare is standard so it costs exactly $16 to get to the resort ($20 w tip). Like others have said, the resort sits "last" on the row of hotels and condos so you don't have any obstructions down the beach. Yes, you do hear planes taking off, however, the location far out-weighs that minor issue. We didn't notice it after the first hour.

The pool and beach were outstanding. The pool is separated into two main sections, one section doesn't get deeper than 3'6" and the other section, which is deeper, has the pool bar. Papaya pool bar is full-service with drinks starting at $8 with happy hour from 3-5 (btw, happy hour is avail all over the resort, not just the pool). Happy hour is basically 2 for 1 with drinks at $4 each. Terry and Lorraine pour a GOOD drink too. More on the staff later. The food options are standard sandwiches and fried items from $8 to $15. The "kids" popcorn chicken for $6 can easily feed two adults. The beach is the best on that side of the point. We walked the entire length and it has the most gradual slope. Umbrellas, chairs, towels are setup by the staff. We did some boogie boarding (rental for the day was $8) and it was a trip.

Rooms were perfectly fine. We chose to upgrade to the Ocean Deluxe View for $20 per day and it put us on floor 8, even numbered room facing the pool and ocean. I don't know how you can have a bad view with the way the hotel is built and situated. Beds soft, fridge cold, TV flat with plenty of channels. However, the only thing the room saw were my eyelids anyway :)

Food options were plenty and we had them all. Bananas: Had breakfast here everyday. (2) bagels, coffee, Coke and a yogurt, $11. Also had sandwiches on occasion, they are pressed with chips for about $10. Hey, the Policia eat here and cops know where to go :) Salsa: Had this twice. They have a build-your-own pasta deal for $12 (big portion), AUCE salad bar for $10 or normal sandwich options. On Saturday and Sunday they have the PR buffet with a whole roasted pig plus plenty of PR goodies for $23. I literally pointed at the chicharon I wanted and the chef broke me off my piece (or pieces, mmmm pork skin). This buffet is worth every single penny. Finally, Sirena. Food and atmosphere was flawless. You're outside, steps from the beach, waves crashing, I miss it. The food was delicious as well. I had the paella $33 my wife had the strip steak $28, the boy was full of pool food.

Casino: Hey, I won! At check-in you get two $5 match plays for the tables. I turned one of the matches into $100. Minimums even on Friday and Saturday night are $5 without a lot of pressure for seats. Good times. Waitress service with free water, pay for drinks.

The service. I cannot stress enough how unbelievable the service was. Doors held open, greeting entering/leaving rooms, smiles, all the small things. From the bell hops, to the concierge, the servers, to housekeeping, to front staff, to Terry the pool bartender - EVERYONE was helpful, willing and pleasant. The service is as good as it gets. In 7 days we didn't encounter a single rude employee...that alone set this resort apart.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks, Courtyard Ilsa Verde!

The lobby and overall decor are very upscale for a Courtyard. The rooms are comfortable and relatively up to date. The casino is small but entertaining. The beach is fantastic - one of the best spots along the beach in Isla Verde. This is the last resort in a long string - so it is a bit further from the shops and fast food restaurants along Isla Verde - that is a good thing if you are looking for a bit more relaxation. There is a large swimming pool, a good size kids pool, a large hot tub and a small not tub. The place was being set up for a wedding - that looked like fun. Staff was very nice and friendly - good at making conversation.

Room Tip: The ocean front rooms have a great view, but the rooms on the sides all have a peek a boo view of th...
