“Great hotel and great service from a great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2009

We had a very good stay at the Embassy Suites. This hotel is a very lively place (in the good sense of the word), although it can be pretty quiet during the week. However, at weekends it's full of life.
The staff is extremely helpful and very friendly. We had a few minor problems in our room during our stay, but they were fixed right away by the staff.
As other guests have mentioned, it's also right next to a big supermarket, which is quite convenient.
If you're after great Puerto Rican food, make sure you go and visit "Don Jose" which is a short walk away (10-15 minutes).

The hotel looks like the picture which is a good thing, it's beautiful. Everything from the pool to suites to the dining area was well kept. The location of this hotel is really good. Everything is within walking distance. We enjoyed the conviences of Pueblo's supermarket which is a short walking distance away where we purchased some items to keep in the refrigerator. We ate at a very good restaurant called Don Jose's which is on the main street once you leave the hotel, delicious food. Each night, this hotel offered complimentary drinks, which is a very nice thing. The beach was literally 2 blocks in front of the hotel. If you like beach and R&R, you'll definately want to check out Isla Verde beach. The water was warm and the sand soft. My friend and I rented a beach chair for $4 for the day and stayed there for hours. Our only disappointment was the nightlife for singles...or let me add 35 and older singles:) There didn't seem to be much to offer in this area. Other than that I would recommend this hotel and location to visit San Juan.

Dear Mrs.Trekwoman,

We appreciate your comments on the property. Next time you visit Embassy Suites you could request beach chairs at the front desk, and these are free. The front desk also has a list of different restaurants and places to go. We hope to see you soon.

Best Wishes

This hotel is right next to the airport ($11 cab ride) and is a close walk to the beach. The breakfast buffett in the morning is great and there is a nice variety of food. Also, the pool is beautiful but i wouldn't recommend it to people looking for peace and quiet as there were lots of kids splashing around. We definitely hit up the casino one night and had a great time. You could definitely spend a day without leaving the hotel. We ate at the Outback in the hotel one night and had fantastic service!

Dear Erin and Tony,

Thank you for answering the review on our property. It's good to know you like the property and your stay was great. We're sorry about the children at the pool making noise. We hope next time it's more quiet.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2009

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary this past summer. Our very good friends were also celebrating. We decided to celebrate together along with our 6 children. We booked a Caribbean cruise. This was not our first cruise but it was our friends. We wanted to fly to San Juan a day early and enjoy the island before our departure on the ship. I searched high and low for hotels and prices. Our biggest bump in the road was that each family consisted of 5 people. 4 of the family members were 18 or older. About 99% of the hotels in San Juan will only accomodate 4 people at the most. And they charge extra after the first 2 people in the room. So my dilemma was paying extra for my adult children plus having to get a second room. We were paying $600 plus for a hotel night stay. I was getting pretty discouraged how costly this 1 extra night was going to cost. My friends were fine with paying the higher costs but I was determined to cut our costs. Then I came upon the Embassy Suites. They had no problem accomodating each of our families in a single room suite. I was getting excited. The cost was under $200 for the night. Much more reasonable than $600 plus. When we arrived at the Embassy Suites, we were very pleased. The hotel was beautiful. The inside of the hotel looked like a tropical setting with running water and everything. All the rooms looked into this atrium area and also had outside windows. We had a perfect view of the pool. The pool was amazing. I felt like we were at some expensive resort. They even had a made-to-order breakfast included in the hotel price. The rooms were clean, the staff helpful. They even stored our luggage for us and gave us late checkout with no extra charge. We were all very pleased. The only downfall was the hotel is not on the beach, but it's only a block or so walk. In fact the families loved the pool so much we never made it to the beach. We would go back here anytime we are in San Juan.

Hotel itself is quite fine with clean and wel maintained rooms (we stayed in one bedroom suite), nice lobby, and friendly staff. Although check-in time is sort of late (I believe 4 pm), our room was not ready when we arrived, so we have to wait about half an hour. That's not bad, but then we have to wait more than half an hour in waiting line though it was only two couples in front of us. After we got a room, we tried their pool, and it was terrible experience. No available clean towels, but piles of wet towels around the pool floor. People in the pool mostly don't know how to behave in public areas, and nobody pays attention to signs around the pool. In addition to teens literaly falling down on you while you are in the pool, everyone speaks so loud, almost yelling, so you are not able to carry a conversation with own family. We had to leave after 5 minuties and rather stay in the room that day because way to the beach is kind of sophisticated. Beach itself in this area is not good, either. Dining options in the hotel are fine, and you have a lot additional options around.

We got a really good price on this hotel - 125 a night, so we were able to overlook the fact that if you didn't run the air conditioning constantly (which meant very cold) the bedroom smelled like someone had vomitted in it.

Being from the states - not used to paying for parking at a hotel, but in puerto rico this is the norm and it cost $25 a day to use the parking garage -and there is no other choice. There is also a casino in the lobby, but I don't require that service.

Other than that, the hotel was located in a busy section of the city - not much of a view, but I don't go to hotels for the view. It was within 3 blocks to the beach, easily walkable. We were out and about everyday, and the breakfast was outstanding with made to order omelets and this really great strange warm cereal - never knew what it was - just good.

Bottom line, would stay there again, just not in that room - think it was 608 or 680 - tucked around the corner by the ice machine.
