“Nice hotel, excellent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Nice experience with exceptional staff. Beach was nice and pool was also nice. Didn't really experience casino so can't comment on that. However rooms were clean and spacious. Also had turndown service at night. Typical Ritz experience. Wasn't as crowded due to not being in peak season. Food and drinks are expensive however that is fairly standard for a resort like this. Plenty of options to walk to from hotel for breakfast, we went to Piu Bello...about a 5-7 min walk. There you could get breakfast for 2 for around $15-$17. BLT Steak and Il Mulino were very nice dining options but expensive. They do offer a sunset menu during off season that is a little more reasonable in price. The sushi at the lobby bar was terrific. Towel service at pool and waiter service was very attentive. Only down side is the pool restaurant being under construction so had some noise and limited food & drink options. At night watch out for bugs that come out of the sand on the beach....similar to mosquitos just make to sure have spray. Only down side really was the construction, otherwise great experience. People who complain about things are really just searching for things to complain about.

My husband and I were looking to get away for a long weekend. We got a deal on Orbitz which included a four nights stay at the Ritz Carlton and roundtrip airfare from Boston. The hotel was beautiful. The service at the pool, beach, and lobby bar was excellent. The beach was perfect and the pool temperature and hot tub were great as well. We ate dinner at the BLT steakhouse and it was very expensive and not worth it. The steak was delicious but the sides were so so. The atmosphere was OK as well - kind of loud. Overall we were pleased with the hotel but had some minor service issues - the bellman never brought up our bags. Our order took too long for lunch and was wrong. The room was great however a few minor improvements would be good - a dresser for clothes to be put away, better lighting in the bathroom, and a clothesline for wet clothes would have been good. The drinks and food around the hotel were not cheap so be prepared. The people were friendly and made us feel welcome. The hotel was very convenient to the airport (10 minutes away) and only about 20 minutes to San Juan - which I HIGHLY recommend going to.

Our reservation request was not honored correctly so we had some people in our group sleeping on cots.
Food at the hotel was not fresh.
Service at the restaurant was slow.
The beach was nice but guests were asked to get off lounge chairs at 6PM to clear the beach which meant if you want to watch the sunset, be prepared to have an ATV whizzing around you as they clear the beach chairs and you sit on your towel.
Pool Bar was under construction and is meant to be through November. Would have been nice to know that before booking since this meant listening to heavy drilling into cement.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up facing the beach give you a better view.

A classic Ritz experience! Long in exceptional service and luxury, short on evening entertainment.

My wife and I recently visited for a weekend getaway. Though some renovations were underway on the beach / poolside facilities that could have been better addressed, the superior Ritz experience was intact. The staff was attentive and responsive to our needs, their recommendations always on the mark. We enjoyed the offerings of San Juan and retired to relaxation at the Ritz.

We live in the Caribbean, and needed American Notary service quickly for some documents; Puerto Rico was our closest option. As we're used to Caribbean weather, beaches, etc, we picked the Ritz Carlton Isla Verde location for its convenience to the airport, onsite services, and amenities for a quick in-and-out stay. The Club service with private concierge was excellent in arranging appointments with notary (on a Sunday, an unexpected helpful experience), reservations, and transportation advice. The staff was efficient, informative, and friendly. For the business traveler (complimentary pressing service) this is fantastic. Also the hotel does have a lovely garden pool area, and beach (for those who don't have to spend their time on more mundane issues).

Room Tip: oceanside, up

My first visit to Puerto Rico and with staying at a Ritz was no let down! This hotel lived up to service excellence one would expect from a Ritz. Every single staff interaction was a memorable one, from the Bellmen to the Pool Attendants. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and amenities luxurious. The shower amenities smelled AMAZING! Our room had an amazing view down the beach, and I would highly recommend this. My guess is the regular ocean views might be noisier due to looking out over the massive pool complex as well. All the of the facilities were clean and well-kept. The casino on site was GREAT! Won a bit of money and they had a great gaming selection! The Concierge and Front Desk were always happy to help and made some great recommendations to our group. Lunch at the poolside grill was basic, but delicious. The pina coladas and mojitos from the poolside bar were made of miracles and sunshine. The actual beach was perfect! While it's not the most scenic beach I've ever been, it's still large, plenty of beach chairs available, and plenty of palm trees for shade. I would be insane if I did not choose this hotel on my next visit to Puerto Rico.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the east that look down the beach may be quieter than a direct ocean view. We never hea...

My wife and I recently stayed here without kids for a quick getaway. We have been going to Puerto Rico for over 15 years and have stayed at all of the 4 and 5 star hotels on the island at least once. As others have commented, staff was flawless. I recommend the Club level, pricey but worth it, Isaac and Jeanine were superb. Although the food could have been improved, it allows you the luxury of all day refreshments and food without the high priced pool food. The hotel could use some cosmetic work but all in all its' a great hotel. The beach is nicely maintained and clean. We had a suite, hindsight could have saved the $$ and had a standard room. Balconies are not on all rooms, so if ocean view balcony is a necessity go for it. Otherwise, save your money and opt for a city view club level. Clientele is mixed, annoying wannabies, families and normal couples like us. Suggest going out to experience authentic Puerto Rico cuisine, many within a $15.00 cab ride. Restaurants in the Hotel are a chain and not what I consider worth it. The jewelry store is worth it, we checked out the prices and they are within reason and duty free. Staff is not pushy but helpful. Maria was great.
