Week of March 25, 2013.
I researched all the hotels and beaches in San Juan to travel with my 5 year old grandson on our annual spring trip. I was very pleased with the Isla Verde beach, because the other beach areas on the island are too rough for swimming. I wanted a 5 star property with amenities, beach, pool, kid friendly and a high level of service. My choice was perfect.
Reserve a club room with a balcony to enhance your stay. Yes, it will cost more, but the Club experience is so worth the price. Upon arrival you are escorted to the 9th floor for check in, instead of check in at the lobby. Enjoy a nice glass of champagne as you complete the check in process. You have a private Club level concierge to assist you with tours, dinner reservations and absolutely anything you need. I was pleased to have top notch concierge services from Wanda at the Club level. Her level of service is one of the reasons you stay at the Ritz.
Club level amenities include food and drinks, plus offer a quietness to enjoy your meals away from the busy downstairs casino, shops & restaurants. Everyday, all 4 food presentations were absolutely superb. All offerings provided incredible choices for adults and children. Wednesday evening hors d' oeuvres include Sushi from the only woman Sushi chef in Puerto Rico. The evening desserts with cordials were always beautiful and delicious.
The rooms are a nice size. The mattress and Frette linens make your sleep like a baby. Nice toiletries and the Ritz can provide tear free products for younger children. It is nice to have regular housekeeping & turn down service in the evening.
The food from the Ocean Bar & Grill poolside was the absolute best. Even though the pool was absolutely packed with families ordering food, I was pleased to enjoy a cooked to perfection cheeseburger and my grandson enjoyed the hand cut & breaded chicken strips with fries. The Ritz offers a special menu for children and the portions are very large. Wednesday night we enjoyed the Lobby Bar Sushi & Miso soup. One night we ordered a great pepperoni pizza from room service.
The pool area has floats and toys for the children. The beach was so clean and the water was wonderful for swimming with a 5 year old. The attendants will set you up quickly with chairs, towels and an umbrella.
Every day the Ritz provided entertainment at the pool for the children. Scooby Doo, clown making animal balloons, cotton candy, hair braiding, face painting, caricature artist and probably more that we did not notice. The multiple Iguanas roaming the beautiful grounds are entertaining.
The only inconvenience I incurred was due to peak spring break week, you must go down by 6am to claim your pool chairs and umbrella for the day. Beach umbrellas and chairs were easier to come by.
