We visited the Kings Head for an early bank holiday supper and wished we hadn't, but first the positives. Friendly staff, good choice of food, lovely location, delicious bread. Now the negatives - interior and decor is dingy, tired and dirty. I know it is an old building but a good clean and brighter furnishings are needed. Flies everywhere, one table even had one of those disgusting fly paper haning over it, full of dead and dying flies. They leave the back door open, just shut it and kill the flies. Easy. Bar tables unwiped, slow service with wine, waiting for 10 minutes for its arrival when we were the only diners ! Wrong wine too. Dreadful club music playing, obviously for the benefit of the staff not the diners. I complained and it changed briefly then went back to rubbish. Please create an atmosphere for all ages not just teenagers. My husband's steak was okay, my main of Ellingham cheesecake just didn't work. Too rich and slathered in the usual balsamic vinegar. We said no to puds and left disappointed. This pub used to be good, it now rests on its tired laurels and needs some TLC.
