“Nice stay....but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We stayed in the Ferrycarrig in November 2012. 2 adults and 2 chidren. We visited previously during the summer to try the food and were very impressed with the look of the place so decided to have a mini family break there. While not massively over expensive, I felt the break was overpriced. Mainly due to the dated rooms. We also felt the food was not as good as our previous visit, and to top it off, my husband was overcharged twice in the bar. He had paid in cash and kept his receipts. Only when we got home did we realise that there were drinks on the tab that neither of us drink (wine!!). Neither of us are wine drinkers.

Anyway apart from that the kids had a ball. We are going to do an Easter weekend, however think we will try the Hodson Bay in Athlone, or Diamond Coast in Enniscrone. They appear to be very good value.

Went to Ferrycarrig for 3 night relaxing break. Staff were very friendly. Food in the bar was excellent. Room fairly clean but a lot of cobwebs on ceiling which were there on first night and still there on last night, cleaning staff need to be more thorough. First 2 nights were ver good but on the last night there was a party in the hotel and from midnight a group of people on the same floor as us were running around shouting and singing and continued the party in the room beside ours. A staff member came to their door 3 or 4 times during the night to ask them to be quiet but as soon as he walked away they started up again. We complained during the night but it continued all night. In the morning when we complained to the manager she said she was not aware that it had been so bad, she apologised, and we were not charged for that night. But this situation should have been sorted during the night and i know other people complained during th night also.

This hotel which has recently undergone a facelift is situated on the River Slaney within easy reach of Wexford town and Rosslare ferry port. The rooms are comfortable and the restaurant is first class. It offers a leisure centre and caters for children. We have stayed here twice and on each occasion it has never let us down. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony.

A last-minute need to travel to Wexford for one day brought me to the Ferrycarrig Hotel. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, the greeting was warm, and soup in the bar was real and filling. View from the bedroom couldn't be adequately given - spectacular in the winter light, just so many reflections and etched shapes over the river. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable - but the highlight was breakfast! The menu might read like many another breakfast menu but the exceptionally high quality of every item was fantastic. The bread tasted home-made, the fruit was carefully prepared and every piece was perfect and excellent, yogurt was of local origin and was super, the coffee was the business. I was nearly sorry not to be a big breakfast person because the aroma from the bacon, sausages, eggs was most appetising and when I robbed a taste of my colleague's bacon, the taste matched the aroma. And all the time, the view from the diningroom was unbeatable, birds of several kinds to be seen in the very well cared for grounds. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. I really regret that I didn't have time to try their leisure facilities - pool, gym etc - because the standard elsewhere in the hotel was so good that the pool must be great too.

Room Tip: It's a quiet location so the only precaution might be to ask to be away from function rooms if t...

Many would be aware that trying to book a hotel room that can cater for 2 adults and 3 children can be very hard to come by. This hotel, had no problem catering for our needs. Upon arriving in the hotels brand new reception area ( which only opened an hour before our arrival), we were greeted with very professional and friendly staff. Our room overlooked the river slaney, and contained a large double bed, single bed & bunk beds. The kids club was open early in the morning and reopened fro 6-10 that evening, which was great for us adults to have some time on our own, and relax in the bar for a drink and indulge in the fantastic food served both in the bar or Reeds restaurant. It's ideal for a couples getaway also with live music in the bar, and mingling with other guests and locals enjoying the Craic. Wexford town is less than ten minutes drive if ya wanna experience the good nightlife of the town.
The leisure centre was a great way to sweat or just relax. Overall very good value.
