“Absolutely gem and a wonderful square next door”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2008

If you are even considering this hotel then you must book it! It was my favourite out of 7 on our Spanish trip. It is like staying in someone's house, but there are only about 5 or 6 rooms and ours was beautiful. The bathroom was gorgeous.

Then there's the pool and gardens... wonderfully cute. Overlooked by a church. I presume you can eat your 1E breakfast (coisqoint and coffee??) outside in the gardens, but we were not able to stay for breakfast.

It is a very short and pleasant walk from the hotel to the bridge. We sat at one of the very reasonably priced restaurants alongside the bridge and enjoyed the views, food and watching the bats flying over our heads.

There is a lot more to do in Ronda than we had realised and it is a much bigger place than I realised. Please give it more than the one night we did or you will regret it like we did. The train journey from Algeciras to Ronda is fantasically senic. The bus journey down to Malaga is not half as pretty.

Just through the arch by our hotel was to our surprise my favourite square of our whole Spanish trip and we had been to Madrid! A fountain, lots of lights, and children playing on their bikes; all at 11.30 pm. Absolutely delightful.

Taxi from hotel to bus/train station 5E. We were extremely glad we had not booked a hotel nearer to the train/bus station.

Great little hotel with an amazing garden with beautiful views...The staff is very nice. Breakfast is simple (toast and coffee) and rooms are beautiful. There is a DELICIOUS restaurant close by called San Francisco- best goats cheese of my life! Also, try in Ronda a great little pizza plae called Nonno Pepe in the centre of town.

Hotel Jardin de la Muralla must surely be unique in Ronda for its lovely large gardens with views over open countryside, an idyllic place to start your day with a light breakfast or just to pass some tranquil time. There is even a swimming pool that looked very inviting to us despite the early March temperatures of our stay; we could just imagine how wonderful it would be to relax in there during the heat of summer. It is hard to believe that this oasis of calm is just a stroll away from the Puente Nuevo.

The house, with a history that attracts the attention of passing guided tours, is also magical, an absolute treat. Its comfortable, huge rooms retain many of their original features and are very sympathetically furnished and decorated. This was easily the nicest place we stayed in Spain, and we found no cause to complain anywhere else. The welcome from our hosts was so warm that we really did feel completely at home, and only wished that we could have stayed longer than the 5 days we allotted in our schedule.

Another really major advantage of this hotel is its convenience for drivers. It is not very far to the ring road, the “ctra. Circunvalacion”, so you don’t need to thread your way through Ronda every time you want to go anywhere. To find it, head for Ronda south (sur) and Plaza Ruedo Alameda on the edge of the San Francisco district. At the traffic island there you will see an entrance in the town walls, the Puerta de Carlos V. Drive through there straight up c. Espiritu Santo and after little more than about 30 metres you are in a small plaza. The hotel is the building on your right immediately next to the church. It’s usually possible to park right outside, something else that is very rare for Ronda, where parking is at a premium. In the event that there is no space because of a funeral service taking place at the church, or something similar, you can park around Plaza Ruedo Alameda, where you will also find good places to eat and drink, incidentally.

Ronda is a beautiful little town, so much more than just a bridge. There are many delightful back streets to wander through, many fine buildings and views to admire, and a wealth of good food and drink to enjoy. We found the people there very friendly and welcoming too. It really does reward a longer, more relaxing stay to explore at leisure, rather than just a swift photo stop, in our opinion, and we hope to return some day. Needless to say, we will be aiming to stay at the Hotel Jardin de la Muralla if we can.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2006

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in October 2006. It was difficult to find (we were walking from the train station) which didn't bode well. The good things were that our room was large (a double bed and a single bed) and there was plenty of hot water. Everything else was well below expectations. The shower did not hook onto the wall fixing so had to be hand held. The toggle for bath / shower didn't toggle so it was only possible to fill the bath from the shower. The furniture and decor were dreadful (I know that's a matter of taste). There was no plug in the washbasin and the tap constantly dripped. The mesh shutters were falling off the windows. The garden was large but the pool looked like you'd only have to dip a toe into it before you'd catch a nasty disease. The location was good - it was really nice to set foot outside the front of the hotel to be in the city and out the back of the hotel to have wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The breakfast was poor - toast and a pre packed croissant, orange juice and coffee. This could be a lovely place if refurbished!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2006

Our family of 4 (children ages 16 and 9) stayed at Jardin for 6 nights in June. It was simply a wonderful experience. The hotel has only 6 guest rooms in a house in the old quarters of Ronda, next to the Espiritu Santo Church. The living room opens on to a three level terrace with incredible views, a patio, gardens, and a swimming pool. The garden was gorgeous and I enjoyed all the lavender in bloom. Breakfast is served on the patio (coffee, hot chocolate, fresh orange juice, and pasteries).

The staff was very helpful and generous with us. We could not have found nicer people. The staff speaks English adequately and we communicated best in French as no one in our family speaks Spanish. We felt very secure.

The Inn is popular with Europeans and it is generally a tranquil atmosphere. It is located within steps of a nice pub (great for family watching of the World Cup) and shops (grocery, pharmacy) and restaurants. It is a 5 minute walk to Puenta Nuevo, but yet out of the way of the heart of the tourists.

The rooms are all different. The best is the upstairs suite overlooking the terrace. Our rooms on the main level had restricted views, but they were clean and had functional bathrooms with shower/tub. By US standards, the rooms are short on extra amenities (no phones, clocks, tissues), but this really did not matter. The rooster and the churchbells serve as alarm clocks. The beds were good. The staff and views and location are all fantastic and it was a great learning experience for the kids.

The terrace/yard in the back for the kids to hang out really was an advantage. The owner has two small (quiet) dogs (Pekinese, Cocker) who are very friendly and my children made fast friends with the dogs.

If we ever get back to Ronda, we would stay again.

We stayed here with our two boys. We had two rooms, each very individual.

The gardens are out of this world. They have a pool also, which we all enjoyed in 97 degree heat. This is an old place, a step back in time. You have a lovely breakfast on patio that is included in room price. The views are the best. We really wished we had given ourselves more time. This is the spot for your vacation in your vacation. We took taxi to town for dinner at Resurante del Escudero. This was a highlight!!! Beautiful spot on cliff. Had nice dinner sitting outside. This is a very well known place and a treat!! Nice bar next door to hotel, with Wi/Fi. English fellow runs it. We had a iittle trouble with staff in the sense that no one spoke English, even a little. We made out ok anyway and just smiled a lot!!

Lovely small hotel in Ronda. Stayed for one night, staff very helpful. Old fashioned rooms, big old (creaky) bed. Breakfast on the terrace in the garden with a great view over the surrounding countryside. Very quiet but within 10 mins walk from the centre (bridge).
We paid Euro100 for the suite and felt it was great value.

Although it's small, there's plenty to see in Ronda. Well worth an overnight stay. It was busy with bus-loads of day-trippers during the day but quiet at night. Plenty of choice of places to eat at night although we didn't look for any other entertainment.

Got up at 8.00am to go for a run to find the town covered in mist. Lovely views as it burned off.

When we were leaving and couldn't get a taxi, staff drove us to the bus station and wouldn't take any payment.
