“Nice hotel... shame about the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We stayed two nights here after three in the town of Ronda. The hotel is lovely, our room was large and nicely appointed even though it was just a "standard" and the staff welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately the food and dinner service let the hotel down - the food was the worst we had in our entire holiday - average at best - and the service was very poor on the night the owner was not in the dining room - though we were treated to a wonderful view of the waiting staff stood outside smoking whilst everyone on the 4 tables in the conservatory sat for 30 mins without any food or drink. Unfortunately the hotel is a little isolated otherwise we would have eaten elsewhere on the second night, and I wonder if they take a little advantage of their captive audience!

Room Tip: Can't go wrong, even the standard room was excellent

We deliberately chose this hotel because of its rural locations, as a brief but needed stop and rest from our 5 week tour of Spain and Portugal. The hotel itself, about a 15 min drive from Ronda central was gorgeous!

We arrived 3 hours earlier than expected, and our room was hurriedly prepared for us anyway, so we could relax after our first driving experience in Spain (on the wrong side of the road for Aussies!)

We stayed in Room 4, on the ground level. The room was huge, with an elegant fireplace and draped king size bed. The bathroom was also magnificent. We really struggled to leave the hotel- outside was quite rainy and cold. Inside was cosy and welcoming.

We didn't eat in at the hotel apart from breakfast (which was lovely). The prices were quite high for our travel budget, abt 45 euro for dinner, albeit 3 courses. On one of our two nights, we brought dinner back and ate by the fire.

Service was great also, though I would say the hotel could do with some better maps of the area. Ronda and surrounds is difficult to navigate, and every one we spoke to told us not to rely on our GPS (main rds were fine, but the hotel itself and many of the smaller roads don't register on the GPS maps). Our big tip: come with your own maps. Relying on directions from the hotel staff only served to confuse us!

All in all, a wonderful trip despite the weather. Wishing Spain was just that little bit closer to Sydney or we'd be back in a heart beat.

Room Tip: The hotel is small so they're aren't many rooms. Room 4 is not the ground floor and next doo...

We toured Spain with the family and rented two rooms.
It was always service with a smile !
And the owners bent over backward to make our tour and stay comfy.
Ask for it and you had it in moments.
They organized a terrific stay and tour.
We still talk about it.

We stayed here at the last minute because of all the positive reviews that it had received, and we were not disappointed at all. The establishment is beautiful, set on the hills outside of Ronda. You will definitely need to have access to a car to stay here, as it quite a drive from Ronda itself. Once we arrived, I didn't even want to leave to visit Ronda (we did, after some encouraging). The room was immaculate - clean, well decorated, and romantic. The entire place is cozy and charming, with staff that are helpful and welcoming. We stayed in the first night for dinner, and were so pleased with our meal and service. The dinner menu changes every night (the owner's son is the chef there) and is quite creative and tasty!

We definitely got some relaxation in from our crazy trip, and we would recommend this place to our friends. Sadly, there was rain during our stay, or we would have taken advantage of the pool and lawn chairs on the property. The breakfast is included, and we had the best croissants of our life there! Make sure you stay for more than 1 night, it is worth it!

I thoroughly recommend this place. It's some miles out of Ronda, so you can't just walk out to eat or sightsee, but why would you? The rooms are lovely and the ambience is very welcoming and relaxed. The food was excellent. In all a great place to hole up for a while - we only stayed a night but would have definitely liked more

Room Tip: We got upgraded to the suite, room 11, which was gorgeous with private sitting out area and a large...

A very last minute booking to get away over Christmas turned into a wonderful holiday. We looked hastily at the website, the elegant rooms, the views, the description of the food grown in the garden for the kitchen; choosing dinner in the morning so things are cooked fresh. It all sounded like someone cared. So we booked.

Turning into the driveway, after what seemed hours of travelling from the UK engulfed by floods, we were relieved to see the gracious hotel ahead sitting in an elevated position overlooking a fertile valley. Soon we were treated to an extremely warm welcome from the staff.

We had booked 4 nights with the promise of an upgrade to the luxury suite and we were rewarded with 2 beautiful rooms, a lounge and bedroom both exceptionally large, light and airy with views from every window and an open fire with logs to replenish it. The understated, casual but elegant style made us feel immediately at home.

What we hadn't expected was the quality of the food. We hadn't thought about a Christmas menu. The first suppers were extremely good. By Christmas morning we guessed something was happening and went for a long hike in the hills behind the hotel armed with 2 large juicy pears. The unexpected special 7 course dinner we returned to was a complete surprise and fantastically cooked by the son of the family, Pablo, a Michelin trained chef. We admired the fact that family gave the staff the day off. By then we felt more like house guests, made very welcome by the Dutch host, the convivial "Pom" and his gracious daughter Gina. .... We have eaten in many fine restaurants, including Michelin starred and this compared. The crystal clear consommé with perfect poached egg was simple and delicious - a local speciality with a selected manzanilla sherry to accompany it. Influences of modern international cooking fused with local. We were very glad not to have had lunch and we were starving. By then we had met all of the other guests so it was like being part of a family Christmas. An eclectic mix of an American family, two lovely German guys, some French and some English.

When we mentioned on Christmas Eve that we wanted to walk to Ronda (4 miles?) everyone helped. Diagrams were drawn and Pablo offered his mobile number in case we got lost. And then recommended somewhere for lunch - a contemporary tapas bar owned by his 'Michelin-starred' friend who had given up his restaurant for a better life. It was buzzing with locals enjoying Christmas drinks.

We went hiking up a mountain near Grazelema in the nearby Sierra. The drive through the cork woods was beautiful. The location of the hotel, close to Ronda, was great. Easy access to many stunningly beautiful areas and 2 National Parks. But we liked the rural location of the hotel it had a great "everyday" feeling. Amongst organic olive groves and Eco farms.

We loved Ronda, famous for it's bridge and gorge. An elegant town, yes a few tourists, but it felt very Spanish with all its Christmas activity. Elsewhere it was quiet and a perfect time to travel with deserted roads.

The Hotel deserves its reputation on TripAdvisor. For it's understated charm, its warm hospitality and most of all it's relaxing ambience, like being house guests amongst friends. ... And the sun shone everyday.....

This is easy! Stunning location, accommodation, service and price.
We stayed a week and had to drag ourselves away!
Staff were superb, rooms very clean and the food, oh my god, was excellent!
Our friends visited whilst in the region recently and enjoyed a great meal!
Book it if you want privacy, quiet time, a bit of rustic luxury and great local service!
