“Good hotel but not as good as it should be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We had a good stay at La Fuente. The suite we had was nice and had a nice outside patio overlooking the mountains. The views are gorgeous. The hotel is very clean and the staff very welcoming.

The hotel is a bit crammed I felt; given the huge quantities of empty land around the hotel, I felt that everything was a bit too packed in the property itself.

Given the raving reviews and the awards this hotel received, I must say we were disappointed.

Mainly because the hotel charges 4-star prices (4-star hotels in Andalusia at this time of the year are actually cheaper) but doesn't give you 4-star service when a problem arises.

We arrived on a Thursday night. The air-conditioning in the suite was not working and was repaired the next day, so we spent the night without airco. The internet in the room was also not working, and was not repaired during our stay. Though I understand it is not easy to find someone to repair the internet on a Saturday, I think this is not my issue when I pay 4-star prices, certainly when the problem was mentioned on the Thursday night already. I must say this was very annoying as we were counting on the internet to stay in the suite and get some work done. The owner gave us a 5% discount on the hotel charges to apologize for the inconvenience and for not being able to solve the problem.

Breakfast is average I'd say. It's of good quality but compared to other hotels we've stayed at in Andalusia (even in much cheaper hotels), the choices are limited.

All in all, good hotel in a beautiful setting, but sometimes not up to the level it should be when charging thoses prices.

Wanting three days of relaxation before a busy family villa holiday we certainly hit the jackpot!
From the moment we arrived to a very warm welcome, through being upgrated to a beautiful suite with wonderful views from the large balcony (No 10), everything was perfect. The bed was huge and also had a mosquito net, although we never saw any.

Being only around 10 minutes from Ronda there is plenty to see and do, and after a day out it was bliss to return to the peace of the hotel and flop into the pool, having raided the "honesty bar" fridge on the way past. It was very hot indeed while we were there and a tub of ice cream never went amiss!

The food was delicious - breakfast, besides all the normal goodies, was notable for the freshly squeezed orange juice, the big choice of fresh fruit each day and wonderful breads which were hard to resist. Dinner was memorable. We had intended to go into Ronda to eat on at least one evening, but having had dinner the first night, we went nowhere At breakfast you are asked if you are eating in that evening and given a very small menu - a choice of meat or fish, and a veggie option, plus 2 starters and pudding or cheese. Each dish was innonative and light, with vegetables from the garden, and was certainly the best food we had during our 10 days in Spain.

The staff were delightful, and full of information when asked what was interesting to see in the area, or directions when driving. I have stayed in many hotels in my long life, and have to say that La Fuente certainly rates in my top three of small hotels in Europe.

There was only one tiny thing I would have liked and that is to have had the room turned down in the evening and the coffee/tea cups taken away.

Room Tip: The back rooms look into the hill - no view. Choose front or side rooms.

Our recent stay reminded us what a wonderful place this is.

The owners have continued to lovingly invest in the property with even more luxurious bathrooms and beautiful accessories in the suites. This place just keeps getting better.

We could go on and on about the wonderful hotel, its location, its exquisite rooms, the inspiring meals, the views (oh, the views), the beautiful staff always going that extra mile....

But skip to another review if you seek that sort of information. We just want to thank Christina and Pom, Frank, Javier (hope I spelled it correctly) and the rest of the staff from the bottom of our hearts for making a difficult time as comfortable as humanly possible. We will never forget all the personal time, understanding and support you put in to us.

Sometimes you end up in a situation, far away from home, where you need more than just a place to sleep and eat. We could not have hoped for a better place. Thank you all and hope to see you again one day.

Room Tip: Pick any room. They're all good. If you like a room with a view, you should pick a front one. Th...

We booked this hotel through mr and mrs smith and it's a perfect example of their standard of hotels. Bliss. Perfect room, perfect food and wonderful service. The hotel were also so accommodating of us arriving early and leaving late.

Room Tip: The hot tub doesn't actual have bubbles, it's more a big outdoor bath!

For my recent birthday my sister offered to have the kids for a sleepover so we could get a night away. After a bit of thought we remembered this hotel which we visited about 8 years ago and thought it would be lovely to go back. We live in Southern Spain so it is also easy to get there by parking the car in Estacion de San Roque and getting the comfortable 1 hour train there. It was as lovely as we remembered, maybe even more as you appreciate things like tranquility more after having kids!! We cannot believe what a great time we had in literally less than 24 hours. We were met by Javier and shown to our beautiful room with a terrace overlooking the pool, the decor is very tasteful and the rooms are immaculate. We were given the menu to choose our meal for that evening, I was a little skeptical as there was only a choice of 2 mains fish or boar, non of which would have ordinarily been my first choice but I went with the boar anyway. After a lazy afternoon at the pool we got ready and went for dinner, the terrace setting at night is lovely, complete with fresh cut flowers and candles round the pool, they really dont overlook the small details. As for my boar, it was one of the most delicious meals I have had in a long time. The food was amazing, cooked by Pom´s son and you can tell he takes a real pride in his cooking and uses quality local produce. If we had a restaurant on our doorstep with that quality food it would be a firm favourite. Javier was on hand to recommend a local Ronda wine which was also amazing. They really do want to make sure that you have a great stay, nothing is too much trouble and its genuine as they take pride in their hotel. Overall a fantastic mini break and it definitely wont be another 8 years before we are back again!!
