“Elegant hotel, first-rate service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

The town of Ronda knows the importance of tourism. Streets and sites are well marked so finding the Hotel San Gabriel was easy. The hotel personnel greeted us warmly. We knew immediately that this was going to be a very pleasant stay and we were not disappointed. This family-run hotel knows its business. Their customized tourist pamphlet and map states "Su casa en Ronda" -- Your home in Ronda -- and it is. We stayed at this very pleasant hotel for 2 nights. We received various up-to-date information about local sites and events, many of which are near-by. Free admission vouchers were given to the Arab Baths. A notice board is updated reguarly to inform guests of special events. The breakfast, served buffet style, was exceptionally good and varied. There are a great number of books to read, in fact my husband was offered a paperback book which he hadn't completed before we left. One public computer with free internet for guests is available. Our accommodation was comfortable. The property is kept immaculate. Indeed we consider this hotel the best we stayed at during our two week trip of Spain.

We really loved this hotel. Easy to find by car with local accessible parking. Lovely room with a delightful window seat, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, good shower. Friendly staff. Good value for money. Conveniently situated to explore Ronda and helpful free maps and guides to the town and local area. Thoroughly recommended.

We felt as if we were staying in a Spanish artistocrat's home in the San Gabriel - the antiques, paintings and plants added up to more than a hotel. Even the upper floor landings were beautiful. We stayed 4 nights and were upgraded to the honeymoon suite for the last - what a treat! The hotel is halfway to everything you could want to see in Ronda - perfect location, fantastic staff. Their dining recommendations were great too. Breakfast is a cramped, busy affair but the coffee is good and the photos of previous guests are entertaining...

My husband and I stayed here for one night during our honeymoon where we traveled throughout Southern Spain. The hotel had great signage and was easy to find. We were immediately greeted when we arrived and they had us park in a guest spot while we were checking in. We were given the option of two different rooms and they actually showed us each room so that we could choose which one we wanted. All of the rooms in the hotel are decorated differently and are quirky, quaint and cute! We chose the one on the top floor that overlooked the courtyard. The staff brought our bags up for us and were very friendly. After we unpacked a little we went down stairs and they showed us where to park (which was a large, secure lot just down the street). The staff were very good about giving us recommendations and instructions about the area.

The room we stayed in was number 21 and it was small but very nice. It was very clean and very sweet. We explored the rest of the rooms in the hotel were lovely as well. Check out the cinema room if you have a chance!

Overall, we had a wonderful visit and will definitley stay here again!

We only spent one night here, but wished we had made it more. A real find. Ronda in itself is stunning and this hotel is well situated for all it's sights and shopping also, should you so wish.

A lovely cool courtyard area. Our room was on the ground floor and there was the inevitable noise from the sidestreet (but who minds horses clopping by - it all adds to the atmosphere). The bathroom was excellent - a lovely large shower big enough for 2. Pity no-one shared it with me....!

The bedroom was very romantic with curtained four poster. Not too much storage space for long stays, but we didn't have a lot of luggage. Nicely stocked mini-bar.

The staff on the front desk were extremely helpful.

Unfortunately the only thing that let San Gabriel down was the breakfast. Not enough tables, no guidance from the staff as to what was included and what was extra. Very basic.

I would stay again without a doubt, but eat breakfast in the town.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for 3 nites. We had room #13 on the main floor. The service and attentive staff will go above and beyond to insure your visit in Ronda will never be forgotten. It is quaint and historical. We arrived by train from Granada and then took a taxi to our hotel. We were given good recommendations for dining. Sitting in the library or outside on the patio took us to another place in time imagining how it was in years gone by. And to think we almost skipped Ronda because we did not want to drive would have been a big mistake.

We stayed here for only one night on our tour of Andalucia, and at the time of booking the hotel only had a standard double room available, whereas we would normally opt for something a little larger; but we were very pleasantly surprised that the room was of a good size, and with a lovely bathroom (complete with whirlpool bath). The whole house is magnificently furnished, and really feels like a house, not an hotel. The staff were excellent, and very helpful and friendly. We stopped outside the hotel to remove our luggage from the car, and were given directions to the local parking lot (Ronda has a lot of new parking restrictions) for which hotel residents get a discounted rate of Euros 9 per day, as opposed to the normal rate of Euros 15.

We had free wi-fi, and a very nice breakfast. The hotel has a lovely mini-cinema (quirky touch!!), and many signed photos of former famous guests. Value for money was terrific, and I would highly recommend it. Although you don’t get any stunning gorge views, it is only a few minutes walk from the centre of town, and in a lovely quiet position.
