“Clean, best location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Very nice, very clean... good location. Hotel El Tajo is nothing "special", but is located between the train station and the old bridges... excellent. Walking distance to the train 12 minutes only. Just at the carfree shopping street, close to nice little Tapas pubs. 15 minutes to the canyon and old bridges.

This is a sweet place, great room, clean, great staff and a wonderful central location. My room was quiet and comfortable. The rate was good and included breakfast. I don't know whether I was lucky, but I showed up without a reservation. There was a French group checking in after me, but I felt lucky to be there. I really liked it.

Room Tip: It's not on a major street, so i always ask for an upper storey room just to be safe.

The staff is friendly and helpful; the WiFi is free and it works; the rooms that don't overlook the street are quiet; and the heating/ac works well. The room was basic, but pleasantly decorated, clean, and comfortable. The plumbing works beautifully, even if you may have to wait a minute for hot water. There is Spanish television, but not international. It's not really wheelchair accessible, but there is a lift, a godsend for someone who has trouble with stairs. There is secure parking for an extra fee. The staff will kindly mind your luggage in reception on the day you check out, send faxes, print your boarding pass, get you a taxi in the wee hours, help you get to the farmacia -- all the little things that, for me at least, are more important than a minibar or a swimming pool. Travelling alone, security can be an issue, and I have reason to feel safe here. As a base of operations in Ronda, it's perfect. While the cost may be a little more than the backpack/hostel set want to pay, I think it is great value for the money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the street. I requested a nonsmoking room and was given one with not...

In a town where driving the narrow streets is a challenge and parking is at a premium, we very much appreciated the secure parking garage. The room was sparse, but clean and okay for one night. Breakfast was more than adequate.

Pleasant helpful reception. Hotel garage for parking the car. Comfortable room and nice bathroom. Good location for having a walking tour of the old and new town. Loads of shops and bars around.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2007

Me and my wife spent one night at Hotel El Tajo. The hotel is located in the "new" part of Ronda, in a quite anonymous street, but just around the corner of the main shopping street. In any case, all the most important places to see are easily reachable on foot in just a few minutes.
The pros:
•The staff is extremely kind and friendly. Mrs. Carmen (apparently one of the hotel's owners) is married with an Italian guy and reserved us a very warm welcome, providing us all the necessary indications to visit the town and the surroundings
•The hotel has its own indoor parking lot, featuring some 10-15 places: this seems to be a plus, as the streets around were always overcrowded during our stay, and the other public parking in the Plaza del Socorro and close to the Plaza de Toros were full since early morning.
• At the time of reservation (I contacted directly the hotel via e-mail), the rate was cheaper than other Ronda's three star hotels
The cons:
• The hotel's external appearance is not particularly attractive, and the rooms are quite basic (though clean). The room's furniture seems quite old and tired (though this may add "character" to the hotel, if you like it), as well as the air conditioner.
• Our room faced the main road and the noise during the day and night might be annoying if you are used to sleep in complete silence.
All in all, I would better rate this hotel as a decent two-stars instead of a three-stars.

  • Liked — The friendliness of the staff
  • Disliked — The room's furniture

Excellent value, good standard accommodation, with its own parking which was a necessary bonus. Great location, easy to walk around the shops, restuarants and sights very nearby. Hotel difficult to approach by car, due to one-way system (just keep trying!) Drive up to garage door and hoot as CCTV system at reception means they will open doors.

  • Liked — central location
  • Disliked — difficulty in negotiating one-way traffic
  • Tips/Secrets — book parking in advance, its worth the money
