“The paradise does exist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I've had the best vacation of my life. At this fantastic resort you can really relax completely. Constantly surrounded by warm, happy and beautiful people trying their outmost to make you happy there is no way you could ever be disappointed. My new brother, Syam, the son of the hotel chef, is one of the nicest persons I've ever met, closely joined by Harish, Ajith and all the other staff who were such fantastic persons. The rooms have both A/C and fans which make them cool all day. We stayed at a total of three cottages. First, the family suite - the center of the hotel lands and a perfect house for the whole family. Situated right above the little canal that is running through the area, it makes a perfect place to relax. After that, we split up to two separate cottages to allow some room for mom and dad to be on their own. My brother and I then got cottage nr 1 which is located literally at the backwaters. It was fantastic to wake up to the cacophony of birds and the constantly active chinese fish nets in the sunrise. As a photographer, it was also an amazing photo experience. My mom and dad got cottage nr 5 which hade a beautiful garden inside. It also had a bathroom with panoramic view over the garden and its little fountain (sadly enough without water). Any of the last two rooms would be perfect for a loving couple. That is why I actually added Les 3 Elephants as a stop on my "around the world trip" with my girlfriend.

Final words: If you want to stay in a beautiful paradise and love the whole of India - this is the place for you. I personally guarantee that the staff will take good care of you if you are as nice to them as they are to you. Don't come here thinking you will stay at a five star Miami Beach hotel - then it's not the place for you. This is a personal, loving hotel with an amazing view over the backwaters and a perfect place for vacation with your family, girlfriend or friends.

Room Tip: The honeymoon suite or cottage nr 1 are the best houses.

We really enjoyed our stay here, a peaceful ideallic location with the backwaters and chinese fishing nets on one side and miles of untouched beach on the other. The views were spectacular.

The staff were helpful and attentive, the food was excellent and there was at least one vegetarian option every meal time. The cottages were clean, we spent 2 nights in an A/C cottage and one night in non A/C but the fan was equally effective. We had a room with an outdoor shower/bathroom for one night which was fabulous.

We stayed for 3 nights which was about right, enough time to relax without getting bored.

I am surprised to read other people's reviews, we would definitely stay here again and had no problems with vermin. There are mosquitos - aren't there everywhere? And it was noisy with the birds in the morning - a wonderful side-effect of being in the backwaters!

Room Tip: The AC rooms are worth the extra to wake up to a wonderful view

Having seen all the positive reviews and photos on TA we were so looking forward to our stay here BUT, sadly, it fell far short of our expectations. Thibaut, the owner/manager, was sooo laid back we just didn't exist. He never communicated with any of the guests and it was far better to ask one of the local staff who were adorable and as helpful as they could possibly be, if there were any problems, eg the water.. oh the annoyance of having to ask morning noon and night for water, let alone hot water! The food was delicious but a very limited and repetitive menu, only 4 tables for 10 rooms, very slow service even when we were the only ones there. Glorious situation, dreamy location on the backwater, awful raucous racket by the birds very very early morning, impossible to sleep after 5am with the competing churches and mosques bells, drums and chanting. Someone ought to be checking the general cleanliness of the rooms, they appear on first view to be very clean but on further acquaintance one realised not so. I hate to be so critical but a holiday is a big deal for all of us and therefore we need to be well informed before we spend our hard earned bucks.

Room Tip: Take a high deet insect repellant, the only thing that works...don't stay for more than 3 days u...

Dear Patron,

Thanks a lot for your review. We are sorry you didn't fully enjoy your stay. Thibaut, one of the owners is no longer part of the team management and the problem you faced here won't happened again. If you come back to Kerala, we would be very happy to show you our improvements in our management.

After all the glowing reviews on the 3 Elephants, we were expecting much. The eco resort is just as it looks in all the photos and the setting on the backwaters in the early morning mists with all the Chinese fishing nets looking like huge alien spiders, is quite dreamlike.
We certainly didn’t want to be the first ones to write a less than glowing review, but things in the resort were less than rosy when we were there. I had been in contact by email with Marjorie on a number of occasions over the previous 6 months and she seemed to be the driving force behind the operation, but she was not there at all during our stay. When questioned, the staff were very coy about when she would return. Management was left in the hands of Tibo, who quite frankly was on another planet and uncommunicative to the point of rudeness. The staff seemed to manage quite well, despite Tibo, but it was patently clear that all was not well in the camp.
The biggest single criticism was the hot water. Getting hot water in the shower in our bungalow was a constant problem with us having to ask reception to turn some valve on at least once every day, which seemed to be an unnecessary annoyance. My wife enjoyed her body massage but the head massage I had was utter rubbish – just like someone washing your hair for 30 minutes without shampoo and water – don’t bother! And the crows in the palm trees – so many of the noisy creatures – very reminiscent of “The Birds”.
We were there for over a week, which is probably longer than most people stay for, and the limited menu was repeated quite often, which meant eating out at Chilliout or Bay Watch in order break the monotony. Not that the food wasn’t good – it certainly was most of the time, but variety was limited. There is only 4 tables in the tiny outside restaurant area, so quite often some people had to wait or eat in their rooms.
Our stay included Xmas Eve and Xmas day and Marjorie had said that they would do something special for Xmas – but it didn’t happen. The closest we got to anything festive was Tiger prawns! The entertainment was some local dancers that we had seen down the road a few hours earlier dancing for the public. What a shame.
I would hope that the situation at that time was a temporary one that has been or will be sorted out and Marjorie will return to the helm. The local staff were a wonderful bunch but they need a strong leader.

It is a decent place, beautiful location, Untouched and pristine beach. But remember if u r vegetarian then this is not the place for u. Very misleading info on Trip advisor. Staff is good but very cold response by owners. He is only friendly with his frnds from Europe only. We paid Rs 5000 for standard room, not worth of. They sent us at our cost to some other restaurant to eat as there are no option for Veg food in dinner. This place is very inside from Cherai beach junction. I would call this place as homestay in refined form. Do not expect any facilty of resort.Room was very small and no AC and place is mosquito infested. So evening u spend most of your time scratching. Also u need to be tolerant about dogs barking during the night. Library is good, my son loved it.

Room Tip: Pls do not go for Non AC rooms. Very humid in evening

We stayed here for 1 night at the end of December and really loved it. The rooms were spacious and clean, the bed was comfy and it was relaxing looking over the backwaters from the resort. I read in some peoples reviews about being woken up at 5am due to the noise from the temples, mosques etc but to be honest the birds were noisier and it's totally worth getting up to watch the sunrise over the backwaters anyway! And yes, there were lots of mosquitos but it's a hot place on the backwaters so we expected that anyway.

We ate two meals at Les 3 Elephants. The breakfast was average and the dinner menu wasn't huge but the food was tasty. The beach is a short walk through the village and the locals are all really friendly, wanting their photos taken and eager to practice their English etc. There isn't a huge choice of restaurants in the area (although there are a couple along the main road) but we ate lunch in a tatty looking beach shack where the owners took us into the kitchen and showed us what they were cooking. The king prawns were delicious!

Friendly staff, scenic and quiet place, clean and well furnished room with a gorgeous view especially bungalow 1 and the honeymoon bungalow. Very good food, Wifi in the lobby. The beach is in walking distance to take a swim. We have been alone on the beach.

Room Tip: No 1 and the honeymoon Bungalow are the best.
